I swear you've got to love the media, when the question was posed to Xia about whether the Chinese government was involved in the takeover, he responded saying no....It's purely business with him and his company etc. CNN Headline now reads :

    http://edition.cnn.com/2016/05/25/football/aston-villa-tony-xia-takeover-football/index.html?

Not trying to provoke certain fans at all hey?

F*** me. He literally cannot win can he?! Not one person in this forum I would suspect thinks that player recruitment last season was anything short of shambolic. Our new owner says he wants to make changes in that area and it's "embarassing"?!!

Would you rather he gave no interviews at all, or interviews that gloss over any changes he wants to make to problem areas?

It will only be embarrassing if RDM doesn't become our manager, but I think you are right in the fact it's good he is doing interviews. Some transparency and clarity.

He is also getting used to how the football world works and our culture. In the future Wyness might say "let's not jump the gun Tone, he hasn't signed yet", unless RDM has signed and we are waiting for a few things to be rubber stamped.

The interviews may abate when the season starts, just hope he is realistic with managers and not trigger happy.

The Times now happy to call him one of China's richest men...

    http://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/business/lerners-big-score-if-villa-are-promoted-pv6wqlhll

"Randy Lerner, the American sports tycoon who is selling Aston Villa to one of China’s richest men, is in line for a payout worth tens of millions should the club bounce back to the Premier League."

Shame it gets to the point where people close to him are debunking the rumours and I need a subscription.....doh!

Mike sorry to interject, but this was obviously due to the pelting he was getting from the British Media. He does not seem to be the most media adept person either, could have just been a genuine mistake.

That's what I was thinking. The financial times poking at you and now Forbes regurgitating the same story a week later, feels more like a tabloid smear campaign than Financial journalism.

Could be western media not appreciating Chinese ownership, maybe relating to the steel incident disrupting markets.

Or Hollis just waits until Xia officially owns the club - and lets him appoint whoever he wants.....the risk of course is that if we hit a snag\delay - it could be the start of July before we get a manager in place. Appointing RDM just wastes a season IMO.

The idea is that Dr Tone is saying who he wants and Hollis is doing as requested to ensure a smooth transition. It's what his job effectively is - find buyer, check back ground and ensure a smooth transition.

I think Ellis did the same for Randy, signed up MON for Randy as he was deemed the best candidate by all parties and was part of the process.

One significant difference for me- Albrighton can play- Gabby meanwhile!

Gabby used to be able to play, he had a good few seasons. Physically both gifted players, mentally Albrighton has more verve and desire to succeed - Gabby thinks he is a legend :D

How long is it suppose to take? I thought it was originally only a few days? Have the media reports made them double check everything?

Wasn't there something in the press about having to wait until we are officially a football league club to do the football league test? Might have been mentioned ooodles of pages ago but that's why we may have to wait another week and BHam Mail are saying about him having ownership next month officially.

Any managerial appointment is being done by Hollis for Dr Tone, same as organising tour options.

This would be the Nigel Pearson that spotted Marc Albtightom was good enough when virtually everyone at Villa seemingly missed it. I don't understand the need to have a nice person as a manager, clough & Ferguson weren't lovely blokes. For me it's about can they do the job and I have more faith in Pearson than RDM to do it.

I think Villa knew he was good, but sometimes players get in their comfort zone and a little uncertainty, fresh perspective and change of scenery does good for a player. They can become stale - look at Gabby, way too far into his comfort zone.

I think when he says "he's the reason we are where we are today" he means that literally, in terms of the physical location of the club that he seemingly built.

    ;)

Would think so,can't think of any other meaning. Though bit concerned as the BBC did a test outside the King Power and found when the crowd celebrated the ground shook. Maybe the foundations laid out by Pearson (and son) weren't strong enough.... :D

I think you missed the part where i said only good in the championship and parting company when were promoted

No I read it, but I felt the point was so relevant I would say it anyway.

He probably has as much chance promoting us, as getting us relegated. I would say 50/50

  12. 52 minutes ago, AshVilla said:

Warnock has something like 8 promotions on his CV

He admits himself he's not a premiership manager but he's good at getting teams promoted and knows the championship inside out

I'd prefer him over Pearson he said in a recent interview with sky sports that he prefers to manage in the championship so when he gets us promoted we can part on good terms

    And probably 10 relegations.....

  13. 2 minutes ago, PieFacE said:

Would never happen. There's absolutely no reason for him to leave Bournemouth, what he's done there is incredible, he's adored by their fans and board and knows the club inside out. I think he would have learnt that the grass isn't always greener when he left for Burnley. It would be a step down for him now and too much of a risk.

For sure, deserved an 'oooooooooo' though.

They will probably get relegated next season.

  14. Previous regime would have wanted to make a cheap appointment - hence Pearson, Moyes with no club attached.

if we truly have money now, fit and proper test pending, then surely we would be looking at candidates in jobs as well - they may have already said no though.

  15. Every manager has had bad runs, dips in form, signed bad players and had a meltdown or two. Few managers have consistently won silver wear or qualified/been successful in Europe, let alone that would be going near us.

Mourinho is unhinged and arrogant, Ferguson is a hair dryer big baby who wouldn't talk to the BBC for months, Wenger is stubborn who has no plan B, Rodgers also a bit mental....

We need someone who is capable of staying at a club longer term to build something for themselves, the players, the club and especially for us. Make their career with us, not ride on the back of previous achievements.

I agree. That is why I think having ex Villa players in coaching staff and important roles is essential (where possible - they have to be qualified of course). People who have the club in their hearts are the ones we need as they will walk through walls for us. Youth players are likely to have this ethos too. The more people with good 'whys' in this club from top to bottom the better.

Who are the ones would play / represent / work for Aston Villa if there was no money in the world?

They should get us on the board :D

Think some Villa people will help, but having an owner, directors and manager with a solid vision - pulling in the same direction is vital.

Like you said, it then feeds through the whole club and transmits that energy - it's what has happened at Leicester. Money helps, but not if you buy the wrong type of players. This manager appointment is so important so we sign the right players.

If we do have money to spend this summer between £20m and £50m I just hope we use it wisely. I don't want to see us go on a wild spree like QPR we need to be shrewd. Having the money to spend is a plus but only if we use it correctly. Those in charge need to be disciplined in finding the right characters and money can buy us those if we are smart. Before any signings are made I hope that behind the scenes standards for behaviour, attitude, work rate and team ethic/togetherness will be worked on otherwise an open chequebook policy will not lead us to success. I also want to see the youth players given plenty of chances.

Anyone heard of Samuel Langley? Maybe some of you but I'd guess not many.

Anyone heard of the Wright Brothers? Most of you I'd say.

Both wanted to be the first to achieve flight. Langley had support from the government and so much money to achieve it. He failed. The Wright brothers on a limited budget achieved it because they wanted it more and they had the right team and culture.

For Aston Villa this is critical to our success and the new guys coming on board have to understand this for success to happen. Obviously Leicester are a perfect example of this too. Leicester are the Wright brothers and Man City are Samuel Langley. We have to be the next Wright brothers if that makes any sense.

    Interesting video on Wright brothers vs Langley ;

So you read the Simon Sinek book too

So as well as purchasing us they expect to announce the takeover of 4 listed companies imminently. That must be a huge amount of investment. Where has that cash come from?

Where does any money come from?

Printed, stolen, earned, laundered...... It's all made up anyway.

He is probably a front end for a load of powerful people in China looking to develop a Chinese football market. It's a bit like having a letter from Susan Smith from BT Customer services manager, but there being no Susan Smith.
