Maybe Lerner and the board were preparing for next season and he's been stalling because he thinks a sale will be completed soon?

Stalling on a sale as he wants more money more like it and doesn't want to implement any initiatives that cost money.

But for all we know he may have put forward loads of "better" options but Sherwood didn't want to sign them, or they didn't want to join us.

I think it's a little naive to suggest that the players we signed were our scouting teams number 1 targets.

True, but I think the recruitment team could of found more cost effective options that would have integrated quicker. I doubt Sherwood wanted this squad, after all he wanted Lennon, Townsend and co.

If certain reports are to be understood Riley didn't follow the requests of Garde either in the window. But I suppose that could be hearsay.

I'd be more than happy with Moyes, especially with a decent transfer kitty. There's still no guarantees, there isn't with any manager but I'd be happy with the choice.

A lot of people point to his recent appointments as failures he may well also have learnt a lot from them. As long as he's still driven and hungry, I'd take him all day long.

That is the issue I have been discussing with a mate. He might want an easier life of a two horse league and head to Scotland.

  4. I feel whoever it is has started already. They have been watching videos of training, talking to recruitment staff, has been building the backroom staff etc. The board are probably looking at the budgets and solidifying what the new manager has to play with .

Just not official until end of season.

My interest in football has gone down too in recent years. Used to spend all weekends and many weeknights watching games from the PL, Bundesliga, Serie A La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Swedish Allsvenska + CL and the UEFA Cup..

Was pretty much all I did in my spare time. Used to write columns in the local paper and had a pretty serious blog about sport (mostly football) for a couple of years. At least 1 or 2 loooong articles every day.

Followed Villa and IFK Gothenburg since I was 5, started following Sampdoria in the late 80's

Then thanks to Eurogoals on Eurosport and the internet i started following Wolfsburg, Saint Etienne & Betis in the mid 90's (mostly to have a team to root for in those leagues, not as a real fan)

With Villa relegated and not on Swedish telly next season I guess I'll have to follow Gana in the Bundesliga :)

Bet that kept you busy! Used to enjoy Gothenberg in the Champions league during the 90s. Same with me following teams, just wanted to root for someone. But Juve I do have a proper soft spot for.

Gana would suit Bundesliga, he is technically gifted.

I feel the other way around, although the enormous influx of foreign players to the PL has improved this in the last 20 years, but there you go.

    Tastes varies.

    Agree, tastes do vary.

The other thing is I am not really invested in other leagues as much as the PL. I used to follow Hannover, Juve and Athletico a lot but over the years it has waned. Used to love Football Italia on Channel 4.

    It's not thou is it?

The transition play in the Bundesliga is better an faster than pretty much anything you find over here. It's almost an art form over there. Less physical yes, but also more technical.

I suppose it is a different sort of speed. The British leagues have always been frenetic whereas the continental leagues are more technically quick. If you admire accuracy and measured play, it is an art.

I feel it's a bit cold at times for me and I feel it lacks flair, not saying there are no flair players but how they are used is different. I feel art should have some indulgences, I don't feel the Bundesliga has that.

  8. German league is slower and not as rough and tumble, will suit him.

Delph has the same build and he was never battled off a ball easily, same as Davis and Scholes. Smaller layers can still be strong, Gana isn't strong enough especially for where we are going.

    I'll repeat my question.

Regardless of the circumstances, can you imagine the reaction on here if Garde had done the same thing to Villa fans? Say last month?

He'd have been totally crucified, by many of the same people who are passing Pearson doing it off as nothing.

Yes he would have, i don't think it's nothing but I do feel we are human and make mistakes. Some people compare the situation with what happened in the FA cup as the players got on the coach and gum gate. Lescott told them to F*** off at the time.

Some people are clearly missing the point.

No one, from what I've seen, is saying that Pearson's character is the sole reason we don't want him. It's that he's not that good a manager, and therefore his negatives aren't worth the hassle for a pretty average manager with a pretty average record.

David Moyes win ratio 44% (including Man United 52%, Preston 48% and Evergay 42% Sociedad 29%)

Nigel Pearson win ratio 43% (including 16% at Carlisle, Southampton 21%, Leicester 51%, Hull (financially limited after relegation) 35% and Leicester 47%)

I have said before these stats can be misleading but it shows that Pearson isn't a bad manager and those saying he is might need to peruse his record a bit more.

But it has to be said Moyes' record is over twice as many matches.

What about telling his own fans to "**** off and die"?

I've said it before, but can you actually imagine the reaction on VillaTalk, especially from posters with the same opinion of him as you, if Remi Garde had done that to the Villa fans?

We only see / hear the part where he responds. What about the repeated taunts and insults which from what I hear from Leicester fans it was aimed at his family. If any Villa fan acted like that at a match I wouldn't be impressed to say the least.

The headline is always "famous person calls someone a c***!" It's never "famous person bullied by crowd of people but that's ok cos they have paid to get in".

    Strangling McArthur is odd though.

  12. there lots of articles on Pearson that just work on observation of his key misdemeanours, I found this one from the Telegraph that seems to have more substance to it, but you can never tell with Journos. Interesting how us fans get on the back of managers when making decisions and, like with the Liam Moore decision, think we know better...

still stick by this. if this new board gets together and the best that they can come up with is nigel **** pearson, then i really do despair.

I agree that what we have seen of him via social media, press etc. Has not painted him in a good light. The British press enjoy watching managers fall apart, BBC and certain pundits have enjoyed poking fun at us all season, so with Leicester being bottom for so long they were an easy target.

What do we really know about Pearson the manager and the person???
