  1. It's not like he left Fulham to manage us and decided to take charge of one last match.

    It is a unique circumstance.

Unique in being left managerless 5 days before the season.

Unique in not having our new manager for an unknown period.

Unique in delaying the kit release.

How many unique things do we need to understand it's not actually unique at all, it's just the way the club's being run at the moment.

  2. Considering the alternatives, I'm happy with this appointment ( as long as Phil Thompson is not part of it ). Obviously, would have prefered Moyes but he wasn't available and apparently we have actually tried for him, so this is good enough for me. TBF I expected a worse manager to be named, so yea, I voted happy.

I have my reservations, but I'll gladly give him my support 100% and wait to see how it goes from here.

    Good luck to him. UTV!

  3. Probably said already but Houllier had the right idea about that prick Ginola, that alone endears me to him.

What did he say about that prick Ginola? If it was suitably derogatory it further endears me to him too.

When Houllier was France manager, Ginola gave possession away cheaply which resulted in France conceding a goal and not qualifying for the World Cup (boo hoo, diddums cheating French words removed but I digress...).

Houllier called him a criminal in an interview after the match.

In the 93rd minute against Bulgaria in 1993. A draw would have been enough for France to qualify for 1994 World Cup.

  4. Seems like the General is suffering a rather acute case of verbal diarrhea. I think for all concerned he'd be best advised to keep his mouth shut with regard to (over)reacting to every negative comment he reads on a message board. I would have thought that he would have realised by now that it's the negativity of football based forums that keeps the things alive. And as for Houllier getting scared off by a few negative online comments, if he does he's not the man for the job. Time to duck your head back below the parapet General, me thinks.

    Agreed. This is embarrassing.

  5. If it's KMac then questions need to be asked.

    It reeks.

lets assume, that we cannot get Moyes, Hughes or Jol.

IF not KM who would you take? It's strikes me that some people would be happy with anyone but KM.

Name names as your alternative, so we can see how they smell :D:D

Just like when we can't get Bent or Huntelaar, we settle for Heskey :)

  6. Totally agree, BOF.

I have always thought that in order to break into the top 4 we'd need 2 things to go our way - one of the sky 4 to have a bad season ( according to their standards ), coinciding with Villa overachieving. Let's not kid ourselves - we haven't had a squad good enough for top 4, we've been in the battle because of the good foundations, strong spine and team spirit, not because we've had the class to even be in that fight. We just couldn't overachieve enough to crack the door open, but we were never deserving to be there, based on the quantifiable things - revenue, class, ability to attract players and sponsors, etc.

Last summer we lost our captian in Martin Laursen through injury, our previous captain, Barry and a very important defensive player - Bouma. Arguably 3 of the top 5 performers we had until that point. Few thought we'd be able to push on and become even better but we did. IMO this was an extremely overlooked achievement. We did it not because we had bought top class replacements, but through team spirit, blood and guts, not class.

Then Man City came and we know what happened. Obviously we can't compete with their spending power and IMO by losing O'Neill we've lost the man who built this squad and who was able to consistently get the best results out of the quality we had. Thus losing the one thing that we've had over our rivals - commitment and team spirit. I understand the man has a lot of flaws, but no one could blame the team for not giving all they had week in week out. Now, the replacement manager will be up for a difficult job to match and exceed Martin's achievements. Not because they wouldn't be good enough ( don't want to get into a fight over who the better manager is ), but because they would need the time to rebuild the squad according to their vision and we don't seem to have the needed funds to do that.

  7. I found this post in one of the threads from MM about Luke Young.

He has never asked to leave his only problem was asking ONeil why he was being played out of position and he was never forgiven for it .

A perfectly reasonable question one would think for a RB asking why he is playing at LB!

If this is true then it's ridiculous.... I want a manager who listens & learns rather than one who can't bear for anyone to dare ask him a question and simply HAS to do everything HIS way or not at all.

Don't worry, soon we'll have a manager who will NOT want things to go HIS way and will be happy with whatever the board says, see the Davies treatment, for which O'Neill got a lot of abuse, it now seems it wasn't HIS decision after all.

I bet many other decisions haven't been MON's.

  8. Itll not matter who the manager is if the board dictate who can and can not play. Surely Davies should have played instead of Clark today as he has more experience yet due to his contract clause he didnt. We need to buy a striker but nope..... the board obviously arent going to buy again this year. Truely depressing stuff.

I still think Davies isn't highly rated here after the mare against Vienna. Kev Mac selected the team and thought even with a knock Clark was the better option and proved wrong. It was his mistake and he admitted it. I can't see a scenario where Lerner is on the phone telling not to pick certain players as to me that's just ridicolous.

It's not ridiculous at all, it's the reality of the situation and I admire you for not seeing the signs. Will you still believe it is ridiculous if Davies doesn't feature in any league game for AVFC anymore?

Admittedly, I'm not Davies's biggest fan at all, I don't rate him that much, but not even on the bench again? Basically we have a player who's about to play his 3rd career premiership game and first away from VP playing with a knock and we don't name our only other CB, a 10million one, who is perfectly fit even on the bench?! Come on, surely it's not rocket science to see what's going on at Villa.

  9. Why would Jol leave champions league Ajax to come to 0-6 Villa, where there's no money to be spent, where the best player's been sold to an alleged rival, where wages have to be reduced and where the board openly interferes where it shouldn't - Milner/Ireland , Davies, etc. I'm sure Jol would laugh at this and stay as far away as possible.

Overreaction much? There are plenty of reasons why Jol would come to Villa. Ajax have money issues themselves and will probably be selling their big names if they can't beat Kiev. Today was a blip I'm sure of it. We move on and the sky hasn't fallen in yet.

Not an overreaction at all. I don't expect Villa to contend for top 4 this season anyway, so no.

Why do you think Davies wasn't even on the bench today, again?

When the board start to interfere in the club's footballing side, that's it for the club.

Btw, I feel very bad for Kev Mac. The man never asked for this shit and will now get so much undeserved abuse.
