  1. if mcleish does take it he has bigger balls than more of us thats for sure

Agree. It'd be some sort of a new-found admiration from me if he has the ball to take the job. Don't think he would though.

Don't believe he'd be offered the job either because no sane businessman would do it. I still consider Lerner sane.

  2. I'm glad someone brought this up. Can anyone explain to me why we had to pay anyone off if ..

    1. O'Neill resigned as we've been told he did from the off.

    2. Houllier wasn't fit enough to continue, as we've been told.

Surely neither of those situations require a payout ?

    1. They bought MON's silence. Constructive dismissal or whatever. MON clearly got what he wanted out of this tribunal and no one has heard a thing about it.

    2. Houllier was cleared to return by some of the doctors, he could have been advised by the club that they'd prefer to follow another route, so he got his compo too.

    All IMO of course.

  3. How about there's no bloody way we'd appoint McGinger regardless of any of the other reasons posted

    a) he's shit

    B) he was manager of the shite

    c) he resigned (not something RL would like)

    d) he's still shit

    e) he's possibly a bit more shit than that too

If RL ever tried to employ him, he would face a shit storm and he knows it. And I don't for one minute think RL ever considered him, even for a nano-second

So ... not a fan then?

  4. I'm suprised Steve McClaren has as many as three votes on this site, I can only guess it is someone being mischievious.

As Villa fans we have differing opinions, and disagree about a lot of things to do with our team. The one thing that we almost all agree on is, A big NO to Steve McClaren!

    True.

Fans may not know what's right for a club, and I by no means am advocating for the board to listen to the fans when making a decision, but fans most definitely know what is wrong for their club.

  5. I think the question has to be asked, do Villa fans really want to see Young and Downing in Villa shirts again. I don't, especially Downing. He doesn't deserve to wear the Villa shirt again IMO.

All modern day footballers are like that and I don't think any fan has the moral ground to accuse them for being the way they are, seriously. Just like a club has no problem releasing or selling a player who hasn't fulfilled the expectations, so do the players who feel are being dragged back by a club underachieving have the right not to sign an extension and/or ask for a transfer. Don't expect loyalty and sentiment when it comes to business, there's no room for that and the very few exceptions only prove the rule.

  6. I don't think there's necessarily a friendshp between Lambert and O'Neill ... I just think their management careers have followed the same paths - in fact having both managed Wycombe and Norwich, lamberts natural next managers job is at Leicester!

    There. Fixed it for you.

  7. First of all, you play against a bigger team than ours. Sorry, Bolton Wanderers at the moment, and this is our challenge for the future, are above us.It would have been difficult. I knew they would put their best side out and their squad is better than ours, but look at the figures. Look at the players they have.I’m sorry, perhaps they should have warned the fans before, but it is not as if we were playing the youth team. There was risk; yes, we took a risk, but these are good players.

    LOL. very good.

you write Houllier post-match speeches don't you

I would have applied for the job, but I'm unable t produce the diarrhea coming our of his mouth if I tried.

  9. When I saw him in the starting line-up I thought Wigan would attack him and that N'Zogbia would tear him apart. Well, I was wrong, the lad did well and having in mind he hasn't played at nearly the same level, not even in the championship, he was about as solid as they come on a debut. Good luck to him and hope to see him more often in the team in the future.

  10. I could understand him being responsible for some early poor results but some still blame him for our last result.

Theres been enough time to get over him going now, redknapp is a perfect example of a new manager not needing the no pre season excuse.

You gotta give credit to the club PR, though, as more than a third of the people who voted still think MON is the reason for our downfall despite him being away for more than 4 months.

I could understand it if people say he should bear part of the responsibility, he does, however more than all of the people who are still at the club? This is beyond gullible and naive.

Won't be surprised if next season there are quite a lot of people still blaming him for not being able to get back to the upper part of the table, provided we stay up, of course.

That, is one well oiled PR department. Respect.

  11. BG_Villa_Fan, an average can be taken in many ways. My point was that Houllier saying "8th-12th in the Premier League" isn't strictly wrong.

My point is that having an average of 8.4 in the way you've calculated it, doesn't necessarily mean you're 8th/9th. Simple maths.

For reference, while our average is 8.4, Tottenham's is 9.4 and Everton's is 11.4.

    This doesn't make these 3 teams 8th, 9th and 11th, get it?

  12. I voted yes by mistake, should have read it more carefully! So that's another NO then. GET RID! We aint a 8th-12th club like he has stated!

.... but in the history of the Premier League, 8-12th is a fairly accurate average.

    Seriously? Check your facts.

    Not this argument again..

    92/93: 2nd

    93/94: 10th

    94/95: 18th

    95/96: 4th

    96/97: 5th

    97/98: 7th

    98/99: 6th

    99/00: 6th

    00/01: 8th

    01/02: 8th

    02/03: 16th

    03/04: 6th

    04/05: 10th

    05/06: 16th

    06/07: 11th

    07/08: 6th

    08/09: 6th

    09/10: 6th

I said "fairly accurate" which, in my opinion, it is.

If you average it out properly it will probably give you a result of something like 6th-10th (I haven't worked it out, I'm just guessing).

I don't believe this is the correct way to judge the average position, the all time premier league table is a better reflector IMO.

Case in point, Chelsea, if you're calculating their average positions during the premier league you'd get 5.17, yet they're clearly not the 5th/6th when it comes to the success they've had during that period.

  13. I voted yes by mistake, should have read it more carefully! So that's another NO then. GET RID! We aint a 8th-12th club like he has stated!

  14. Truth is, if he's lost the dressing room, there'd be only one way for him and the club. Now, obviously, we don't know if he has, but we can't bury our heads in the sand and not see the indications. If it's true, then I don't see how and why the players would do their best to beat West Brom and Wigan to save him, they simply wouldn't play for him.
