  1. Surprising and a bit sad.

This might be an indication for a much more aggressive squad rebuild. We generally assume they'll buy 3 or 4 good players and a back up keeper or something similar, sell the deadwood while keeping the majority of the first teamers. Unai might be much more thorough in shaping the squad though, similarly to how he came and wasn't satisfied with simply finishing mid-table, which realistically would have been a successful season. He relentlessly pushed for more and put pressure on everyone until the very last day of the season, so we achieved something that pretty much no one had expected when Gerrard was sacked. I wouldn't be surprised if he would want to re-shape the squad in a similar fashion instead of going the more conservative route and Ash is the first victim of this.

Anyway, good luck to him. Hopefully he could return a 3rd time, in another role, someday.

I wonder if he’d fancy the Leeds or Leicester jobs? Wouldn’t be surprised if he put his hat in the ring.

I mean, I hate them too but that much? This is brutal.

You need to chill - if he does ? And I don’t know anymore than you - who would blame him ?

Come on , it's one of the best days following the Villa in the last 20 years. Don't be a party pooper. Don't be that guy.

  4. With the caveat that if Unai wants him then it's fine with me, I've never liked Barnes that much. He's a good player but I don't think he fits the way we play right now.

That said, I've been very wrong about players before so I can't really have such a strong opinion. I though Edouard would have been better than Watkins in the same way I now think Nico Williams would be better than Barnes. My hope is that we can get as many of Unai's A targets as possible.

  5. Perfect way to use VAR in the Milan vs Inter game. Ref saw there’s minimal contact and it’d have been the easiest decision to go with a penalty that he had already awarded but common sense prevailed.
Shows once again it’s an advantage when used smartly and with the proper amount of context and sense instead of blindly relying on stupid concepts like ‘clear and obvious’ or whatever it was.

  6. Watched him only a couple of times after his Mortal Kombat days, and have to say I've not been impressed. However, if Unai wants him then it's perfectly fine for me.

This upcoming transfer window will be the easiest one to follow as a fan. Whatever Unai wants I'm totally happy with. Ideally, I'd love us to keep Emi, Mings, Kamara, McGinn, Buendia and Watkins but whatever - Unai knows best. I only hope the decisions about who stays, who goes and who's brought in would be in the club's hands, i.e. no unexpected transfer requests, etc.

Beyond that - whoever they get I'll happily support. Unai knows.

  7. Someone should make one of those Hitler videos with Boehly finding out they won’t be in the champions league next season 😂

  8. I’m getting progressively more and more mad at him for what he delivered at the start of the season. Playing the way we are now we fully deserve to fight for champions league football. Instead, we’ll likely come a few points short of that and then who knows what happens next season (injuries, loss of form, Pool/Chelsea possibly being better).

    Charlatan.

To be fair a lot had struggled in the last six months of Smith’s tenure so while we knew Gerrard was awful we thought some of the players were the same.  Turns out it was all Gerrard.

Love Deano and still think he had accumulated enough goodwill to be given more time but him and Emery are in different classes when it comes to managing.

To be fair, this is a very different Ollie under Emery to the one under Gerrard.    It’s like a different player imo….confidence, how Emery has told him to stay centrally and even his touch seems to be there.

ThIs is true for literally every player.

It’s why saying the players were not good enough to do more under Gerrard was crazy.

  11. I've no idea what Dyche's other options are and what he's looking for, but it'd be an extremely thankless job if he goes to Everton. He'll probably keep them up and then he'll be hounded off at the first opportunity. Some managers like Bruce would be up for the job and the paycheck but it seems like Dyche is weighing his options for his next job more carefully.

Reactions like this sum up the problem with football fans and why nothing will be done to improve the officiating. Too many willing not to care when it works in their favour.

It’s only natural for fans though. I honestly didn’t care Leeds were denied a clear penalty last night. Did anyone?
