I’m sure Nas & Wes have their fingers on the pulse so leave that to them to worry about… Again I’m only really interested in league position and not some execs role which no one truly knows was in the process … our  owners should be getting criticised just as much as Heck.

But they are. People criticize the off the field stuff and rightly so.

In any company, in any field, being a shambles in one department inevitably affects all others in due time.

I wonder if we'll get a response from the club today - whether you like it or not, this definitely isn't the right way to launch a crest. I'm kinda hoping the club will rush forward their plans and take ownership of the narrative and launch asap.

I'd really hope so, because it would at least show a level of competency we've not come to expect.

Not holding my breath though, tbh.

Why stop at the drop shadow? We could really push the boundaries and use Comic Sans as well no? Add some faux 3D in there as well, blinking text whenever it's used digitally...

Sure, they could also write the name as AsToN ViLlA to complete the late 90s message board style.

Except for if his goal against us results in us missing out on the Champions League of course....

Meh disagree. They wouldn’t have played  with 10 men had he been on loan. It wasn’t a great piece of skill, it was shambolic defending, someone else would have scored, who cares.

There will be plenty of teams willing to pay £15m for him, he’s  a goalscorer.

I’m not so sure, not because he’s a bad player but because nowadays most teams play systems with a single striker and this isn’t one of Archer’s strengths. He works better with a partner up front, which has become so rare in the premier league.

I imagine this is part of the reason why Unai was OK letting him go.

He didn’t cover himself in glory today, but to be fair, any Defense worth its salt should deal with a direct long ball being flicked on.  The fact we didn’t says more about defensive shape than anyone in it

That goal happened after he was subbed off.

Why DOES it look so shit then?

Let me try. Pick one or more

    • It's not shit, that's just your opinion
    • That's exactly how it should look
    • You just don't understand
    • Because you only see a part of it, wait until you see the whole thing it'll be great, promise
    • It's not made for your generation, younger generations love pixelated images
    • Do you work in design? No? Thought so
    • Other clubs don't use pixelated text and you don't want to copy other clubs, do you?
    • It's not even the real crest, relax

What’s with the weird pixillated fuzziness around the bordered Villa? The whole thing doesn’t jive.. the text in white doesn’t fit the marque font either. Is it just me?

Not just you, no. 3 different fonts in a single image and 3 different colours of letters. Professional...

Probably because he's smart enough to realise (having taken 6 months to learn as much about the club as possible) that Villa fans are never happy, so he's given us something to moan about while the rest of the work goes on in the background. He's lowering expectations in order to deliver an overall rebranding project and new crest that a majority of fans will (if not embrace) at least be moderately content with.

Seriously, if you had to look at the behaviour of our supporters on social media, and the reaction to absolutely everything that isn't an emphatic win, would you not embrace a similar strategy in rolling out changes in our branding? Give people something to moan about, while soft-launching a more traditional colour palette to get people used to the other changes they're going to see in the coming months.

Certainly not. Unless you think you've done a terrible job and are looking to cut losses. If you're confident in the good job you've done that's not a viable strategy, especially for a demanding audience.

    Who are 'people'?

As judging by many of the reactions here, this isn't universally true. Many people initially (and hilariously) seemed to think that this was a version, or element, of a club badge.

Eh it’s not true though, is it?

The hilarious part was how bad it is, whatever it is supposed to be, and some were afraid the actual badge would be in a similar style. I know very few of us could actually recognize what it said with that late 90s font but those who did surely did not think the actual badge would include ‘150’, or 500, or whatever.
