Don’t think Brighton are guaranteed to finish above us tbf. Wouldn’t surprise me if saints pulled off a shock against them

Same...  Now that Southampton don't have anything left to play for, they might actually turn up to play.

Heck of a coincidence, eh? But fair enough.

Anyway, it was a single thing from a list I posted. I'm not a particular fan or critic of CP, either way, but like anyone in a job, they've got their strengths, weaknesses and foibles. We're all human.

Literally says "Grealish" and the video glitches.  You're making something out of nothing.  The fact that this is even on your list of reasons you hold against the man is hilariously petty and pathetically sad.

That was down to bad recruitment which typified our championship years, doesn't mean we were promoted too early. It really depends what way you're looking at it, but either way I'd consider us lucky to get out of that **** league at all given the way things were going. I refuse to credit Purslow with it either way, it was effectively more to do with Jack Grealish finally coming good on his potential at exactly the right time for us.

You're right...  Sacking Bruce and appointing Smith had nothing to do with our promotion.  It was 100% the result of Jack Grealish.

wouldn't the majority of those criticisms be driven by ibbetson though? i.e. season ticket prices, holte end premium area etc. i'd imagine that's her remit, and is below purslow's pay grade. i posted a page or 2 ago, does the tesco CEO decide how much to charge for tins of beans? i appreciate things work differently in football but i'm going to play devils advocate and say purslow has little to do with season ticket prices. i'd put the betting company in this same section too...but in any case, whilst the owners are minted, the CLUB needs money and they need to maximise how much is coming through the doors. if that means a betting sponsor, more expensive season tickets, and a fancy terrace to draw in tourists then it is what it is.

We have a massive waiting list for season tickets...  Basic economics will dictate that prices will rise until demand drops to match the supply.  It doesn't matter who was in charge at the club, it would have happened regardless.

Toney was injured and unlikely to be back for Spurs anyway. Brentford beat West Ham 2-0 without him.

Chill. Not everything is a conspiracy.

You clearly haven't been to the Purslow thread lately...  🤣

But it's not like Villa to be so naive. When the likes of The Athletic and Romano are announcing it as as a done deal.....

I don't like seeing us get played, I'd expect us to be smarter tbh, but oh well.

He turned down our offer...  Doesn't mean we got played or used.  This is the real world.  People weigh up options like this all the time and doesn't mean everyone is malicious or using others for their own benefit.  I've turned down good job offers after interviews and touring the workplaces because I didn't want to relocate or it wasn't right for me at that point in my life.  Hell, maybe he was ready to leave Barcelona until Jordi Cruyff was axed and they counteroffered to keep him and made it a much better proposition for him.  Doesn't mean he used Villa or took us for a ride, or we're idiots for getting played.  Who cares what Barcelona fans think about us?  They're all glory hunting plastics anyway.

genuinely staggered by this...theres really that many criticisms you have of his time with us? go on then...how about just giving me the top 5?

I've literally gone back 25 pages in this thread and the only things I can find are:

    1. Gerrard...  Over and over and over again.
    2. Coutinho - 100% his decision, apparently...
    3. Sawiris thinks he's incompetent, apparently, and had to step in and unilaterally sack Gerrard and appoint Emery himself without including Purslow in the conversations - Completely unfounded conspiracies
    4. He was a Liverpool fan growing up
    5. Liverpool & Chelsea fans don't like him from when he was with their clubs so we shouldn't like him either
    6. He's a shady/untrustworthy person with no reasons other than...  Gerrard
    7. Other than making every wrong decision at the club, he is nothing more than a glorified secretary who does nothing but photo ops and takes credit for successes he had no part in (because all the good that's been done at the club is 100% done without him, apparently)

Sorry, but this huge list of criticisms just doesn't exist and he doesn't want to take the time to think of a bunch of legit ones and post them for an actual conversation, so it's much easier to just say "Trust me, mate, they're bad!".

I think the Gerrard reason for many has been spoke of more frequent than most of the other reasons that get mentioned.

If I was to list everything else it would probably take me a week to do so and it's not something I have time to do sadly.

I highlight the pros aswell cons with the man, sadly there appear to more cons than pros.. in my opinion anyway.

You're the one talking nonstop these past few pages about wanting to be heard and have a debate/discussion regarding Purslow, but instead of stating anything besides "hE aPpOiNtEd GeRrArD!11!!1!!1" you act like it's a huge laundry list of egregious offenses that are too long to post when we're all sitting here very confused.

Air them out and let's actually have a discussion then...

    Why, for having an opinion?

Apologies of it's not to yours kn anyone elses liking, or do we all have to be bullied into following the trend to avoid upsetting other posters?

Why is it a conspiracy theory when then things are raised or questioned?

It's called a debate pal and if you don't agree with most then that's fine, but to tell people to grow up or to ridule peoples posts as conspiracy theories because you don't agree with what is being said then it is rather childish in itself.

The problem is you lot aren't debating or even having a discussion.  This whole "Purslow was 100% solely responsible for Gerrard and deserves to be run out of town for it" goes against everything all reliable sources have said about the appointment of Gerrard.

You might as well be posting on here that you don't like Christian Purslow because you think he pees sitting down and anyone who tells you otherwise is a happy clapper trying to stifle debate...

Hopefully not, Emery and the scouts will have identified what players they want.  Someone else will just do the negotiating now.

It's almost like we have someone at the club who does this already...  Someone like a certain Director of Football???

This guy is something else -Johan Lange, how he managed to keep things tight lipped is amazing. We are on the up! UTV : r/avfc

Its going to be rough now finding an alternative.

Anyone coming here will be fully aware that they are second choice.

You mean like Emery when Poch turned NSWE down before him?  Stuff like this happens in business all the time.  Anyone who takes it personally won't get very far in their careers.  It's not like you're on Love is Blind and proposing to someone right after their roommate turned you down.

In any other company which has become more successful year on year... since the incumbent joined, the CEO would be lauded.

Yet in our distorted VT world, most time the thread is bumped, it's someone having a non educated pop at ours. lol

Now he's being called " Glorified Admin " ffs.

You love the owners ( Extremely wealthy, successful and astute businessmen with businesses in multiple fields/industries ) and think they know what they are doing, but think they have a halfwit running their potential multi billion pound assets.

    Words fail me.

100% this...  Some need to grow the fook up.  Misery loves company and somehow the unhappy Villa fans all seem to congregate on VillaTalk.  Some of the worst football takes I've ever seen are these unfounded conspiracy theories about Purslow I've read on here.  We're on the cusp of something great at the moment and some just want to moan about something instead.

Little bits about him through the video. I like the fact he really didnt want to bring Messi back and wanted to make the squad a bit more dynamic

I don't want to say it's outright disrespectful, but the kinds of questions the two English guys kept asking the Spaniard about Alemany coming to Villa were slight digs at the club.  Implying Villa are a "simpler" project than Barcelona made it sound like Alemany was running away from the "challenge of an elite club".  Also the whole "players don't care about behind the scenes stuff and don't want to go to a club like Villa over a club like Barcelona" makes it sound like Alemany is going to only try to complete directly with Barcelona for every signing.

Whichever division they are in next year, he will be a very good addition to the team. He is good enough for the prem i reckon, perhaps not good enough for where we want to be, but with a fanbase who adore him and manager who rates him and plays regularly, i think he would hold down a midfield spot in that team in the prem. He is their 'Tyrone Mings 2019', the move just fits and looks right for all parties!

He's a solid lower half Prem DM.  Will be good enough to try to keep them up, but I don't think he's good enough to be a regular in a team pushing for Europe.

Our midfield trio of mcginn, luiz, kamara should not be touched but more rotated quite regularly to allow for rest giving Lo Celso regular game time and so on, but we should get two forward players in both williams and torres, we need to snap up BOTH its very important that we do… how comfortable would everyone be with that squad below.

A trio of Watkins, Torres & Williams would give me confidence in any game especially with that solid midfield and defence

    Major Signings

    • Nico Williams (Ath Bilbao) £44M
    • Ferran Torres (Barcelona) £43M
    • Vanderson (As Monaco) £35M
    • Giovanni Lo Celso (Spurs) £25M
    • Mark Flekken (Sc Freiburg) £12M

    EST Total Spend - £160M

Our outgoings should balance that to around £115M hopefully

Flekken is already on his way to Brentford to replace Raya.  Pretty much a done deal being reported by everyone.

Also, weren't you flipping out about Torres being a terrible signing the other day?

I think he can come in to play right midfield or left midfield, or Luiz' role. He is versatile enough. In fact I think the extra attacking freedom of the wide midfield positions would suit his game better. Honestly if we got him and any one of Asensio, Williams, or Torres we would a fearsome proposition.

Ugarte???  He's a 5'10" defensive midfielder with no goals or assists this year...  What makes you think he'd be a good option for the attacking roles for us?

Another odd one for us because he would play Douglas Luiz's role for us and Dougie is in the running for our Player of the Season.  I can maybe see it if Dougie was off this summer, but he signed a new deal last fall after Arsenal came in for him on deadline day.

Torres is a great player, but I don't see him displacing Mings from the starting 11 unless Tyrone starts having howlers again like he did under Slippy G.  Torres has Kamara's passing ability, but he would be the least physical of all our CBs, including Chambers, and he is very weak in the air.  Mings and Konsa have been one of the best CB partnerships in the Premier League under Emery so far.  Does that mean they can't be improved?  Not at all, but when you have a quality CB like Diego Carlos stuck on the bench because Mings & Konsa are playing so well, it's hard to believe we're going to spend 30 million on a player to replace Chambers on the bench.
