PSG really are a terrible club in every possible way.

Look at the amount of French talent spread around Europe that they never seem to have any interest in. Mbappe is the only PSG player named in the current French squad. They could easily build a dynasty with young French talents and take on Europe, but they just go for names all the time and have no identity on the pitch.

...and that's the reason why they'll never win the Champions League.

I think he's a very talented player and a big upgrade on Buendia but its a very difficult deal to close. Chelsea paid 9m euros for 5 month loan. Athletico paid a huge sum for him. They'll take a haircut I think but will still want massive money which would be a big big risk for someone who didnt set PL alight in his short time here.

I think the interest from other big clubs has plummeted since his Chelsea loan.  He showed that he was a talented kid who can do a lot of tricks and flicks and occasionally dribble by a man, but his work rate and production was very low.  He is a very immature player, plus there were rumors of him and his entourage having one too many nights out in London during the season.  I think he has the potential to be an elite talent, but at 23 he needs to start putting in the work on the training ground and realizing it.  I have a feeling that Atletico will try to sell him to Newcastle for big money because he's significantly better than Anthony Gordon and they saw how much money the Saudis threw at them.

I know Emery was interested in him last January and he confirmed our interest in a prematch presser, but I think the only way we'd actually get Felix is if nobody else offered Atletico as much as we would be willing to fork over for the transfer, and I don't think Emery will spend that much of our transfer budget on him.

Another 40 pages and not signed.

Again you get called a moaner.. maybe all this speculation should stay in one transfer speculation thread until a signing is actually confirmed.

To be fair, there is a lot of genuine media speculation coming out about the Asensio situation on a daily basis.  It's not like this is the Messi thread, which should have never allowed to be created in the first place.

  4. Some of you must be fun at parties...  Jesus...

It's not like Percy has come out and said Asensio isn't signing for Villa, it's some muppet at the Birmingham Mail, who haven't had any insider info at the club since Matt Kendrick left.

The French league is now the 6th ranked league in Europe having fallen behind the Dutch league. Anyone going there doesn't have the right mentality or ambition as a footballer IMO.

A mid-table Premier League side would challenge for the French title.  Sure, they'd probably lose to PSG both legs, but they would run the rest of the table like it's the Championship.  PSG are on autopilot most games and don't always turn up to play hard.

Linked with Tielemans on a free apparently. Isn't he very injury prone

Please no...  Not injury prone, apathetic.  Got his bag, now doesn't care about winning anymore.  Goes missing like a ghost most games.

Whatever happened to the Lyric FPL account?

You mean SecretMessilad21?  He's still around here somewhere.  Pretty sure he deleted his Twitter account after he said we weren't going to sign anyone in January the day before we announced Moreno.

I think we can safely assume that that news piece was total bull.

No idea why anyone would think that Madrid would make a big announcement about which of their their players leaving when the season isn't even over yet.  They still have a game to play on Sunday.

What did they do wrong? Penalty overturn was correct and Patricio was miles off his line for the one he saved and I'm afraid that's the rule nowadays (although very few seem to be re-taken).

More talking about the obvious Sevilla handball which didn't even get a review because Anthony Taylor said it hit his side, the red which should have been given to Lamela for the elbow to Ibanez, or all the other yellow worthy challenges he made after that but half the Roma team got yellows for fouls less severe.

That would be disappointing if they could pull it off because he's very good and I would have bet he would have went to a bigger club than Saudi FC.  He's been linked to Madrid all season and is one of the rising young stars in the La Liga.  I would love to see him at the Villa, but we can't buy everyone.

British refereeing team doing British refereeing things.

How do other leagues manage to do VAR correctly and the English refs do such an inconsistent job with it?  Are they really that incompetent or are they more openly biased than refs from other countries?

  12. Incredibly boring final...  So glad I watched this poorly refereed shitshow.  Glad to see that Taylor is just as shit reffing European games as he is in England.  Why was Lamela not sent off several times?  How can you let the sideline drama spill over onto the pitch and not take action?

Also, what is it with pitch invasions all of a sudden?  Awful stewarding in this game, it's like they didn't even bother stopping the Sevilla fans from running onto the pitch.  Did anyone else see that one fan trying to take Rakitic's shirt off his back without his permission?  What a clusterfook.

Dalot new contract confirmed. Wonder what that means for wan bissaka

I don't think Wan-Bissaka was in Erik ten Hag's plans at all until the defensive injury crisis this season forced him to play him.  Based on ten Hag's recent comments, Wan-Bissaka has won him over and I don't think Man United are going to actively be shopping him this summer, but probably will still entertain a solid offer for him.  He's statistically the best 1v1 defender in the Premier League but his lack of production on the attacking side of the ball holds back Man United right now.  On paper, he would be fantastic for us because we've seen Young/Cash not really venturing forward as much as Moreno/Digne have been on the left.

Wasn’t sure where to put this but apologies if it’s been discussed already.

I mean, on paper it's all well and good but if they already can't enforce the rules against clubs like Man City and PSG who employ armies of lawyers to keep them from getting sanctioned for financial rule breaking, all it does is preserve the status quo.

  15. I started getting into English football during the Martin O'Neill era of Villa and Ashley Young played a huge part in why Aston Villa chose me as a fan.  That stoppage time winner he scored against Everton at Goodison Park had me running around my college apartment screaming bloody murder.  To this day it was one of my favorite moments as a Villa supporter and I go back to watch replays of that goal every once in a while.  Then he was dead to me after he moved to Man United and dove against us in his first appearance for them against the Villa.  It was like someone stuck a knife in my back...  Watching someone who played his heart out for the clubs for years so blatantly cheat against you at the very first opportunity really hurt.  I really didn't want him to come back to Villa on a free.  At 36 I figured he'd be after a big pay packet before retirement, but he's completely won me over these past two seasons.  His leadership, game management, and on-field intelligence has been infectious and he gave his all for the badge again.  The bar has been so low for Villa club legends recently and while I wouldn't put him in the same category as someone I consider a true claret & blue legend like Martin Laursen, Young is up there with Alan Hutton as someone I'll always remember fondly for his service at the club.  I'll truly miss him and wish him the best.

We need to stop getting a bit snobby already with transfers. For me, Harvey Barnes and/or Jack Harrison woukd be fantastic signings for our club.

If Emery wants them, I'll back them to do well for us, but I have a feeling we'll be shopping in a different market than the relegation clearance bin.

Have mu doubts with Asencio as big a name he is 🤔… wouldn’t cause a riot over signing him but very unsure if hes the player we need.

If I might ask why?  He's been Madrid's super sub/rotational ace for the past 3 seasons and always impacts the game for them.  He is leaving Madrid because he is in his prime and wants to start more games, but they have younger more promising attacking talents in their roster.  He doesn't have elite pace, but he is an extremely intelligent technical player who regularly scores bangers for Madrid like Hourihane did for us in the Championship.  He's the kind of player who we were crying out for in many games this season when Bailey and Buendia weren't playing well.

As an American, I'm sorry to say that we should be looking at a higher calibre player than these two. And you can add McKennie to that. All not good enough for where we want to be.

THANK YOU!!!  Championship trash all of them.  McKennie used to be quality before he got his big contract at Juve, now he doesn't care about football anymore.

as an american, I would love us to have at least one american on our roster.  McKennie might be the best option toward that goal.  Who would you think is the closest?  We probably have a keeper that could serve as backup to Martinez.

Pulisic & Reyna are the only Champions League quality players we have.  Maybe Balogun turns out to be something special too, but we'll have to see if he can score in England now, not just the French league.

  19. The disrespect is already starting...

Here is going to be the new media narrative this summer:  Villa are in the Conference League so they'll be too distracted to challenge for the top 4...  We'll be "doing a West Ham" next season, apparently.

Edit:  Also, watch that narrative be blown apart by the contradictory statements about Newcastle "establishing themselves" as a top club next season, even though they'll also be in Europe.

Fabrizio pretty much confirmed he’s going to Brighton yeah

He also pretty much confirmed Guendouzi to Villa was less than 24 hours away many times back in January.  He isn't as reliable as people make him out to be.  I'm pretty sure he has an "understanding" with several big agents who feed him info that benefits them.

    Come at me.

I think he's much further ahead than Jack was on his 22nd birthday, but this is the age where Jack's development started to skyrocket.  Hopefully he can keep pushing for improvement under Emery.
