  1. Maybe he has already offered to terminate his contract but we didn't want to pay it in full?

It is a strange way to treat players when due to a possible injury crisis you might have to bring them back into the team.

Hutton isn't in our 25 man squad whereas Given and N'Zogbia are, he will never play for us again whereas those 2 have a small chance (maybe a higher one in N'Zogbia's case).

    I'd take Ash back here

All day long. One of our top 5 players in the last 5+ years (possibly).

I'd say he is one of the best players we have had in the last 25 years but I think his best days are behind him.  I can't see him ever reproducing the sparkling football he delivered between 2007 and 2009 where he was tearing opposition teams apart week in, week out.  He is still capable of it physically I'm sure, but he is too much of a known quantity these days and defenders know how to deal with him.  I'd still have him back in a heartbeat of course, but just with the realisation that it won't be as good as it was the first time.

I went with a conservative estimate as I can't remember much before DOL days due to age...

That's a lack of rather than too much  ;)

I'm still young and used to care about England. With Hodgson in charge I don't even watch the games any more, boring football, boring tactics, boring squad selection. Boring. When players on form start being picked and the same bunch of extremely average players stop being selected for no clear reason I might feel interested again.

Out of intrest did you watch Villa under McLeish?

Season Ticket, every home match and all home cup games as far as I can remember. I didn't pay (I was 16 and my Dad buys the tickets) but I would have if I had the money, I support the team regardless of the manager.

EDIT: Also watched as many away games on streams as possible.

Isn't it the same thing though? This England team is nowhere near as boring as that Villa team.

The only thing linking me to England is my nationality, I've been brought up with Villa, hence the club will always be a major part of my life, England won't. I would rather Villa win the league cup than England win anything, especially at this point in time.

I really struggled to answer your question though, excellent point  :(
