Richard I think my view has been quite aligned with yours as to what kind of manager we should appoint, but the bit in bold is plain wrong and I am surprised someone of your obvious intelligence could hold such an extreme and misguided view.  I have no interest in debating the pros and cons of Bruce - we have all had our say and the decision has been made.  Time for us all - me included - to get in line and back the owner, board, manager and players for the good of the club.

'Head' rarely beats 'Heart' in fan forums.

Sherwood topping a poll for next manager on Facebook.

Personally I would welcome him back. He got a raw deal last year IMO and with the right backing and coaching staff he could be a real success here.

Why do people forget how clueless Timmy was when it went titz up? He's even more short term "solution" than RDM.

It indicates to me that Sky are making shit up because they would like some punters to put loads of money on him using their betting website (which is handily linked from the article) as that will make them lots of lovely money.

    Indeed so.

How can a so-called "news" operation be associated with a betting partner?

Clearly a conflict of interest, if not legally then certainly from an ethical point of view. Oh wait, Murdoch...

Well that's where the fan base splits in two !

For every person I talk to who says that, there is one (as I am ) who says that all things considered, he has done a good job, got us playing football, removed the cancers, been unlucky not to have more points, made good progress gelling a brand new time and creating a decent spirit, and that the one thing we don't need is people 'putting pressure' on him (the owner ? that's up to him).

I don't think those who say its not good enough are considering 'all things' at all, I think they are considering just two.  We've spent a lot of money and we haven't won enough.

    Agreed.

Why rush to a conclusion, when we've barely got started?

Maybe you can spend some time looking over some of the 373 posts I've made and you'll notice a lot of what I've posted which was unpopular at the time ended up being correct.

Putting your feelings about Flabby aside for a minute, do you expect him to play again for this club?

He's toast... which poses a totally new dilemma for him.

  6. Thick people are very often doomed to failure, even if fate deals them some good cards along the way.

They frequently show poor judgement, fail to learn from their mistakes, indulge themselves when caution is better advised and struggle to understand that they and only they are to blame for the choices they make.

Intelligent people do all this shit too of course, but are blessed with a single get out jail card - their brain. Life just ain't fair sometimes.

However much he works out, Gabby will always have a flabby noggin.

    In the bin.

  7. Been busy this morning, so not fully up to speed with striker search...

Sounds like Hernandez currently 'off' due to wage demands, but is this definitive? Any chance of a reheat?

I see Kodija is close - was he plan B, or did we bid for both, meaning we want(ed) two strikers?

    Thanks chaps!

The twenty million wasn't too much before the Bristol game. We didn't lose that match suddenly bid for him, have it turned down, move on to another target and then hope to announce it either yesterday or today. The pursuit of Hernandez ended a while ago hence the bid for Valencia.

Can something which 'ended' start again due to a change of circumstance or attitude? I'm sure we've been through this before. You could be right of course.

As I've said I wouldn't be surprised if Adomah is our striker target, because I don't think we'll use him as a winger, more likely one of the front three, to add some pace. I'd be very surprised with Hernandez now, especially with Xia saying they've moved to other targets and Hull supposedly on the verge of being taken over.

I wouldn't be surprised if Adomah was our wing target and we are still ALSO going for a striker. You could be right of course.

Do you not think the opposite is more true - that people convince themselves we're signing each player we're linked with?

Every time there's a solid (or solid enough) link with a player, we love it.  We generally big the player up as much as possible, posting YouTube videos and saying he's "exactly what we need".  As soon as Jedinak got linked, he's a great signing.  As soon as Hernandez is linked, he's a great signing.  As soon as Yedlin is linked, he's a great signing.

Anyone who is involved with dampening down a rumour (whether correctly or incorrectly) is criticised.

I'm not saying Hernandez will or won't happen - I have no idea - but useless is correct.  Nixon's tweet saying it's Hernandez got respect and discussion, Murphy's tweet saying it isn't got "bitter Bluenose".

I didn't leap to the defence of the Drogba rumour - so no.

Xia's already given us an hint...

Can things change? Does 'unfortunately' mean we are/were in some way interested? They don't have a manager, but they do have a chairman and he's said there are bids in for players - possibly even a Hernandez replacement? Could 'don't shout' out be interpreted as a jokey thing along the lines of sshhhh - don't let anyone else know we want him?

You could be right of course, and you probably ARE!

  12. 4 minutes ago, useless said:

I like the way that when Nixon says we're in for Hernandez most believe him, but when Murphy says that it won't happen people try and convince themselves that he's wrong because he's got something wrong in the past. Pretty sure that Murphy has been a lot more reliable over the years on Villa news than Nixon. Also Xia himself at one point ruled out Hernandez. We'll just sign someone else.

As I've said all along, in response to your absolute certainty, you could be right and you probably are, but... you could also be wrong. Unless you are Dr Tony Useless and then you are unquestionably right.

  13. 2 minutes ago, useless said:

Don't know why people are trying to convince themselves that Murphy is wrong with his tweet. It's not as if those players are the only ones available  in the world, if the strikers he mentioned aren't going to happen then it probably follows that Xia was referring to someone else when he made 'world class number nine' tweet.

A sound principle worth adhering to most of the live-long day and you are probably right in this specific instance, but... the world ain't ALWAYS logical Mr. Useless.

  14. 1 minute ago, Rodders said:

I think Murphy is relatively back in the loop now after Lerner, so there's probably truth in that. But equally, could be being played by Xia and agents etc.

Agreed and things change... Pat got McCormack wrong for that very reason.

XIa confirmed there was no minimum release clause unfortunately. My point was that if he was going to leave I think another premiership club would come in for him, leaving us with no chance

Not sure about 'no chance' - depends who the team is, if he would be guaranteed as their main man and what money they are offering. Mostly about money though and whilst all Prem teams are now awash with cash, so (apparently), is the good Doctor.

I dont see why hernandez needs to drop a division considering how he has started in premier league. Sorry cant see it happening.

He doesn't need to and possibly won't... it's just the signs suggest it's him - (i) Our interest has been referenced numerous time over the last few weeks by respectable hacks including Murphy (ii) He himself has said he wouldn't hesitate if Villa called (iii) Hull's start is admirable but unlikely to last - he must know that and in fact, some might say their situation is perilous given the pending change of ownership (iv) He apparently has a 10 million clause, which is affordable and cheap.

We could lose out to a Prem team for sure, but who.

  17. 3 minutes ago, KSV said:

Problem is though... Ayew McCormack Gestede Grealish.. should be better than our current 4 goals in 4 games. We just dont seem to be creating chances at the moment. McCormack hasnt had too many.. We need a creative link in midfield.

    Agreed.

Da Doc has referred to the need for an attacking mid, so would assume it's still in the mix because that need hasn't gone away.
