I think a lot of the criticism is harsh here.

Without knowing the inside facts it looks as if his career has been ruined by a knee injury which was outside of his control. What do you expect him to do.. rip up a lucrative contract we were stupid enough to give him? By all accounts he was a fun character to have around the training ground and very well liked. Ultimately he was unfortunately hampered by a career-ending injury so I think comparing him to McCormack is pretty stupid in this case.

I don't know why I'm entertaining this but hey ho: As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread it's very likely he didn't start since Smith is focusing on testing out new partnerships. Guilbert & Jota. Grealish & Lansbury. Mings & Engels. We already know Grealish and McGinn work well so it'd be a waste to throw them in together. Smith clearly wants to see how the new boys work around our number 10 which is why he got the nod over McGinn.

I'm stoked by the effect Jota is going to have on Jacks game (and visa versa); they compliment each other so well. Bravo Deano, bravo.

Having had the giant Neil Taylor and Alan Hutton (I do love our Huts) inflicted upon us this is the signing I'm most excited by so far. He looks fantastic going forward and his partnership with Jota is blossoming.

If he can defend the forgotten signing might prove to be our best.

True, perhaps one of the recently promoted teams would take him and he'd be able to secure a starting position.

I wouldn't say Nakamba affects this deal at all; we need 2 midfielders who are more comfortable than Hourihane in that crucial DM role.

I think we can all agree this guy needs a full injury-free season on loan in the Championship. Consistently starting 30-40 games would do him the world of good.

Also other very hypothetical scenario City get an injury day before deadline day, snap him up on the cheap instead of paying double or triple for another player

We aren’t losing out if we wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to sign him.
