Again showed some flashes of real quality. Really happy with how he's settling into the side.
-
Surprised but happy. Hopefully some of the other Brazil players will rub off on him during his time away.

This, this, this. Great post but that point stood out in particular.

Did ok today. His pressing shortly before his substitution was fantastic, that put me on my feet.
-
At times Davis had to drop deep because of Lansbury and Hourihane's reluctance to move and receive the ball from either full back or Douglas. I didn't once see us create a triangle in the centre to try and pass through them. If we weren't passing it around our back four Douglas was often having to ping a ball over to the wide areas or drive it into Davis.

Needs. a. rest.

I thought he offered a lot more than Conor. It’s his first game for a while and has had injuries so wasn’t ever going to 100%. But for me anything good came through him and Luiz
Fair point - I stand corrected. I do wish at times he'd take the extra touch and drive forward with the ball.
-
A gorgeous through pass for the first goal doesn't excuse his lacklustre performance. Offered even less than Hourihane managed to. Zero movement, zero desire to take the ball and drive forward with it.
Maybe I'm being harsh but besides his passing range (which isn't always perfect) I do not see what he offers.- 1

Doesn't look good so far does it.
-
Besides a few darting runs into that left channel his movement was absolutely piss poor. It felt like we were playing with a 1-man midfield.
-
Looked average with a few flashes of strength but admittedly was never a goal threat. Hope the injury isn't too serious.

Some great points raised. It's looking like he'll get his start tonight - fingers crossed he performs!

Okay...but this is the PL. You know what, let's also recall Andre Green and Callum O'Hare and give them starts in this league to see how they've developed. I mean, we'll never know until we try right? Hell, at least they've actually been playing first team football.
Neither of those have made appearances from the bench in recent PL games and impressed whereas Davis has; hence the calls for him to be given a chance in a position we're currently struggling with.

Is it really that hard for you to imagine a young player improving behind the scenes over the course of 2 years ... in a new team ... under a new manager?
If you want to pull stats from your ass: Harry Kane scored 2 goals in 13 appearances for Leicester in the Championship (2012/13) 2 years before he scored 21 goals for Tottenham in the Premier League (2014/15). By your logic Spurs should've told Harry Kane to kindly f*ck off and either loaned him out or let him rot in the reserves. Ridiculous. -

I don't remember but i can't recall Davis getting a run of games during Smith's tenure, has he?
Correct. He was injured when Smith joined us and then Tammy rightfully made that position his own.
Back on topic: my biggest criticism of Wesley is I just don't think he has a footballing brain. He's so slow to react, hardly moves and rarely busts a gut to get into the box after laying the ball off. Very frustrating. -
In 6 Premier League appearances so far he's managed a grand total of 80 minutes play time and looked bright in most (if not all) of his cameos.
He has 1 goal in 2 starts in the EFL and looked pretty dominant from what I recall.
Anyone dismissing Davis needs their head rattled.
Give him 90 minutes on Wednesday and then perhaps we can begin a discussion.- 2

He's played less than 30 games at this level as a CB. I'm sure he'll iron out these mistakes he's been making. If he keeps making blocks like he did against Jesus he's allowed the odd clanger.

No chance. Not when it's hard. That's when Hourihane disappears. He's proven it enough times now.
Maybe he could play in a home match where we might have more of a go, not away.
Normally I'd agree with you but McGinn has been off the boil for a couple of games now.
-
With not a lot of cover he had a few icky moments but ultimately squared up well against one of the best in the world.

In hindsight I think he would've offered more than McGinn did today.
-
An additional point I forgot to post above: his body language was absolutely pathetic today.

Far from his best today. I'm curious how much of an effect our lack of quality in the wide areas is having on Wesley's performances. Take Conor out of the side and there's hardly any crosses being fired into him.
Nevertheless Davis deserves the shirt against Wolves on Wednesday. -
I agree with those that have said he's been invisible the past two games. Is it the system or does McGinn need a rest I wonder?
-
I’m happy so far. If we can up our efficiency on the counter I can see us getting a goal.
-
Disallow that one you **** wad referee.

I agree he didn't have much of a sniff all game but he doesn't help himself with his movement at times. He seems very static and in a side that's struggling to string a pass together he needs to smartly make himself an option by dropping deeper at the right time or moving into either channel for the long ball. On the odd occasion he does receive the ball and lay it off he saunters back into the box with no urgency.
Not to mention he rarely wins a ball in the air which for a big man isn't encouraging. I don't think he's as bad as a few have made out but I do think he can do more.
