Ha, just googled it, there is a lizard called a skink.
Cullen skink is a Scottish smoked haddock, onion and potato soup.
I had to Google the soup.

Skink is delicious unless there is another skink i've not heard of. A creamy smoked fish soup, lovely.
No lizard in there?

The first goal was a truly wonderful move. Grealish, Barkley just toying with Arsenal, an incisive move from Targett, and Saka forced into an OG from Trezeguet. Liquid football

When asked about Jack...
"Sancho and Raheem have the ability to dribble and beat people but he does it in a different way"
"The area he got into for the goal that he created is where he should aim to be more and more regularly" (as if Jack doesn't want to be in those positions)
"He's good at receiving deep" (Kenneth Williams gif)
"He's a different type erm [starts scratching back], Mount coming on in that position or similar position again I thought had an excellent impact on the game he presses so well he moves the ball so quickly and he had a real impact in setting up 2 or 3 chances in an immediate impact on the game"
You might think I'm trolling with that last one, but no, he actually said that.
What’s wrong with him?! Mount did look pretty sharp when he came on against a dispirited Wales who were 3-0 down and ready for bed. But Wales didn’t start out like that. They were up for it and were in the game. Grealish, with that assist, was the one who broke their spirits. So strange to not see it recognised.

Nice one on getting it published so quickly. I haven’t subbed to a Villa podcast since the excellent Aston Villa Review ended, but keen to bask in last night’s euphoria a little longer I had a listen earlier. If it wasn’t there this morning when I had that impulse to listen I’d have probably not bothered at all, but instead you’ve added another sub, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
It was a really good listen and sounds much more polished than being just a few episodes in. Good work, I’ll be listening regularly from now on.

Gabby was just on Talksport. Well worth a listen. He got asked if Villa had been inspired by Leeds... somehow they’re getting credit for our wins now. Gabby gave them their answer though.

I haven’t posted on here for a while but this one really got me. A man at the peak of his powers who faced a cruel situation with such dignity. So cruel.

Worst I've seen for a long time. We were outcompeted from start to finish.

He got us within a fag paper of going up, even when we were totally shit in the final we only got done by 1 goal
He did. And he stabilised us, so I agree he wasn't all bad, but if he had got us up, we weren't built to last and never would have been.
Edit: I was always positive about him and wanted to support him as manager, but with hindsight I was wrong. There were better options, as Dean Smith demonstrated.

There are a couple of players who are building a career in the game - McGinn and Abraham - while the rest are at the height of what they'll achieve for the rest of their careers and it shows. Ignoring quality, the hunger isn't there. In the concourse before the game I was watching the Wolves-Leicester game and there looked a near certain goal for Wolves until Madison came steaming from nowhere to block the chance; our midfield just don't seem to have that commitment.

Left this for a day before giving my opinion.
I thought you played well first 20mins especially , looked a real threat and your goals were well worked and taken, i was fearful that this could be a WBA.
We had decent control of the game first half, passing the ball well and created half decent chances but lacked a bit of clinicality which is what you had shown to take a 2 goal lead in the first place.
We should have had a pen 1st half when Hutton wrestled Jansson to the ground, but were a bit fortunate to not concede a dangerous free kick very early on when Davis fouled Kodjia so hey ho.
2nd half thought you again started well and looked threatening for a bit, we took a while to get started. A great challenge from Jansson denying Kodjia and another effort from Jodjia went just over.
Hasn't been mentioned much in the reports but Hernandez did brilliantly to keep the ball and find Clarke. Jack is our new golden boy, he has impressed a lot already and this moment was a matter of when. Great confidence for a lad who only turned 18 last month to run at an experienced international like Elmohamady, he fully deserved the finish at the end.
And then you folded, i dont mean that disrespectfully but aside from 5 minutes late on i felt only 1 side would score again, was just whether we would score just the once.
Whoever decided Hutton should mark Jansson should give there head a wobble, a warning had already happened 1st half, it was ignored and Jansson powered home an excellent Hernandez cross.
Bolasie had a great chance but for reasons only known to himself he went with it with the outside of his right foot., the skill incidentally to beat 2 defenders on his own got a clap from me tbh.
The winner, clearly Elmo should have done anything but what he did, couldn't let it go because Clarke was behind him but he could have headed it for a corner at least. However it started from a throw deep in our half so others are as responsible imo.
Overall i think we deserved the win, you had decent spells and showed quality in your goals but our overall play was better all game really. Passing, movement, transitional play, energy etc.
Defensively your a sorry state (not Smiths fault entirely) but i think his style is very gung ho and it leaves teams exposed, with your defence thats risky.
Thought McGinn was excellent, Kodjia and Abraham to with Bolasie shining in moments.
A lot of talk about your need for defenders but i really think you need a proper holding midfielder as much. If your going to have high pressing full backs you have to be able to switch to a back 3, to do that you need a defensive minded midfielder.
Smith has a habit of prioritising ball players in midfield over steel, Ryan Woods at Brentford in the deep role, Hourihane for you, its admirable and in possession it's great but imo its a bit to expansive for this league.
He tried Whelan but he is a bit old now.
You need someone like Busquets, Fernandinho, Eric Dier, Wanyama etc.
Obviously not that class but that type, they are there respective sides insurance policy, Busquets happens to be awesome on the ball to but first and foremost he was a defensive rock for Peps Barcelona.
We have had Phillips doing that job for us, dropping into a back 3 when the full backs press high. I think that is someone you lack and that sort of player is something you desperately need imo.
Grealish a huge loss clearly, you had very little control or retention in midfield Tuanzebe to undoubtedly a loss. But thats where Smith earns his coin, good coaches have to make the best of it, felt he made a few questionable tactical calls tbh.Bielsa impacted the game positively for us, bringing on Clarke, playing Hernandez central, Alioski on the right, he has done an amazing job and pur match day squad yesterday cost about the same as Kodjia for perspective.
You have the best front line in the league imo with Kodjia, Abraham, Bolasie, El Ghazi, Adomah and Hogan. But your defence is a liability, needsbig investment and more power and defensive knowhow in midfield imo.
Really enjoyable game i felt, result aside it was a great advert for this league, when you see some of the dross Sky have to big up as a Super Sunday game, that game infront of 40k people pisses all over a lot of Prem games in terms of atmosphere, quality and passion (there ya go Hecky and Brucey). We have a LUFC fan from Chile on our forum, this game was shown live on ESPN apparently, only 2nd division game to be broadcast there.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
Great summary. Merry Christmas and hope we can join you in the prem next season.

I love his story, and I'll go back to vicariously revelling in his success, but I hated him tonight!

I'm so frustrated. We're chasing and need every single point and for the sake of even an average keeper we're letting it slip away.

Another negative amongst many against Bruce is that we sign Bolasie and a few days later shaft his old friend Albert. Hardly going to inspire the guy is it?

Try "only five/six/seven/eight years ago they were Champions league semi-finalists". I hear you.
But the only way we've ever shifted the bastards that owned us was eventually by some occasionally innovative positive action, largely organised online. One lot in particular were very sensitive to negative PR.
Maybe Xia is.
You might want to find out who owns the advertising hoardings bordering the ground for instance, because Villa won't.
We had a very resourceful group of fellas crowdfunded for this...
Ok, fair. I've misconstrued your and @WaccoeOnline's intentions, through my own filter of hurt at our crap situation.

I’m seven and a half weeks in and it has got worse but also better. My daughter started struggling with reflux about two weeks in which has made the sleeping worse and it’s stressful to see her squirming in pain, BUT I feel so much better mentally than during those first few weeks where it felt like I’d gone into a crushing anxiety-depression when I was supposed to be the happiest I’d ever been. That slowly subsided as I got used to the new reality and the bond with my daughter grew. Now she’s smiling and interacting, which makes all the sacrifice that much more rewarding. It’s still tough but it feels much more bearable.
Hang in there.
