I don't want to think about selling important assets, but here we go. Hypothetically speaking, if we sold:

    • Luiz - £70m
    • Ramsey - £40m
    • Cash - £25m

    And we bought:

    • Geertruida - £30m
    • Baena - £45m
    • Fofana - £30m
    • Gallagher - £40m

Would we be stronger or weaker?

Considerable weaker until proven otherwise. I’d also want maybe one or two more if we’re selling all three of those.

Tbh I’d be pretty uninspired with that window if that’s all we do.

I don't want to sell anyone. But if we had to, my big money player order is...

Duran, Luiz, Torres, Kamara, Ramsey, Bailey, Watkins, Martinez.

    What's yours?

A bit surprised you have Torres that high with how Unai is having us play out from the back.

If they are all sellable (e.g. no injuries currently), my list would look like

Duran (shouldn't really be on this list), Ramsey, Kamara, Bailey, Luiz, Martinez, Torres, Watkins I'd also say that I'd be a lot more open to offers for Konsa too -- he'd be before Kamara on my list tbh.

Out of interest, if Gallagher is 40m... how much is Wharton from Palace? Higher or lower?

Wharton's at least double, if not even more. Palace signed him four months ago to start and Gallagher is out of contract next summer (which is partially why he is only 40m)

Love Douglas, but are Kamara and Tielemans our best two midfielders?

I hesitate on this (NB: I rate Dougie higher than both Kamara & Tielemans), but IMO Kamara is too injury prone at this point to say he's our best midfielder. Tielemans has been good for the second half of the season but has also had injury issues. Dougie has played close to 4 full PL seasons consecutively (including the COVID summer) without any serious injury problems keeping him out for almost any game -- knock on wood for that.

You don’t want to hold onto a player whose form is dictated by who plays with him.

Secondly I’ve watched Luiz have some really rank games even when Kamara has played.

Thirdly you get one decent game in 5-6 from him. He doesn’t dominate games, he isn’t consistently physical or creative enough and is basically a sideways player without any discernible pace.

Lastly if Arsenal bid anything north of 30m I’d sell and replace him with Gallagher! Much more consistent and affective player!

I don't know why I'm even biting on this obvious bait, but Gallagher and Dougie play very different roles in midfield, so that would make us as a squad much worse (though I'd love Gallagher signing personally). I completely trust Monchi, Damian & Emery, but if Dougie was sold for 30m (this summer*), I'd lose a LOT of trust in them for that alone.

Lets say we complete the below

    Raoul Bellanova (RB) £20m - Salary *£80K*
    Mario Hermoso (LB/CB) Free - Salary *£105k*

    Nico Williams (LM/AM) £43m - Salary *£175k*
    Ross Barkley (CM) £2m - Salary *£40k*
    Matheus Nunes (CM) £27m - Salary *£95k*

    Good Window ??

    Don’t think Nico’s happening.

would prefer Conor Gallagher over Nunes as well.

  6. Third year a free transfer for a midfielder. I understand why some folks have hesitation behind it, but it would be quite a good low risk signing. Especially if Unai wants it

I’d love VAR to have a time limit, particularly for offsides. if it’s taking more 3 minutes to make the decision, then go to the on field decision.

With semi automatic offsides coming next season, the time will be down a lot for offsides specifically

also, hand balls need readdressing. Particularly the “natural position of arms”. It should account for motion, such as turning, running and jumping.

problem is that the handball rules are under different interpretations at every level in the world. Even heard in our game Monday that the handball Pau was asking for at the end probably gets given in European competitions and in La Liga.

Its not rocket science is it. Independent VAR staff, who have played, or know the game, an referees call for VAR only if needed, unless its a clear and obvious error'. I mean it's not hard to implement is it.

Independent VAR staff is definitely crucial, but having the playing experience tbh in my mind is a negative — we see all these ex pros in media haven’t a slightest clue about the LOTG and complain about everything. Imagine Gabby as a head VAR official?

Seems odd as he's on 60k euros pw at the moment. I thought he rejected us saying he wanted to stay at Bilbao this season, wasn't sure if we would progress and still wanted to be near his family at his young age ?

He's a year older, his pay would be on par with our top earners and he would be in champions league with plenty of Spanish speaking staff and players.

I’ve seen it reported recently that he’s on €200k/week now, and his demands are higher.

I think Manuel Ugarte would be an excellent signing this summer. We might be able to get him on Loan. Was linked to him last summer.  He only played 39 mins total in last 6 PSG matches, didn’t even get off the bench 4/6 of those matches so I don't think he's fancied at PSG

he would be an outstanding coup imo

If we were to lose Duran, how would people feel about Elijah Adebayo? Has impressed me when I've watched Luton - he's way better than the rest of the team, and Edwards should have played him more at the start of the season - and has a better goals-per-minute ratio than anyone in the league except Haaland and Jota.

Probably a stupid idea, but I enjoy watching him anyway!

I’d rather not lose Duran, but Adebayo is a very good left field shout imo. has been pretty impressive

And he won't have to play 4500 minutes.

Players get tired when they play the 38 game season without a break. Luiz has played an extra 1000 minutes on top of that. With his only rest being 3 games of suspension. And 2 International breaks. Imo it's not much of a surprise he can barely sprint at this point ajd his delivery has become worse.

Checking the stats, he's played over 4,000 minutes for us this season in 50 appearances. Only Ezri's made more minutes on the pitch.

he's missed 12 PL games for us since we signed him (not including this year) ... he really has played way too much without any decent amount of rest (as he usually plays a full 90).
