Arriving tomorrow, Fender Mustang GTX50
I don't need it but at least its saved me from buying a new guitar

Must admit, with my birthday coming up, I've been tempted to treat myself to a luxury purchase, but I really, really don't need another guitar.
I absolutely don't need another one, and I certainly don't have the talent to back up spending £2k+ on one....but, if I can't treat myself for my 40th birthday then when can I treat myself.
I really need someone on here to guide me through my G.A.S. though, I'm so close to ordering the Fender GTX50 right now but aside from wanting to upgrade on the spark amp for no real reason I don't actually need it.
-
I'm seriously considering upgrading my amp to a Fender GTX50, mainly because of the Effects Loop that it has, only thing is that it is between £350 and £400 and I don't know if I can really justify it.
I currently have a Spark Amp and a Katana Mini (which I absolutely love, I'd highly recommend that for anyone who wants to just noodle about while sitting on the sofa) I don't know how much additional joy I'll get out of a new amp aside from the pedal option.
Also, its my 40th birthday next year, I'm seriously considering flogging my Epi Les Paul and getting an actual Gibson LP for around £2000, I'm kind of hoping its just a passing thought but I can see me being stupid enough to go through with it.

Which musician can you spot on a record because of their unique style or sound ? Not vocalists obviously . For instance ; could you spot the differnce between the styles of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton , Jeff Beck etc. The only guitarists I might guess would be Wes Montgomery 'cos, AFAIK, he played with his thumb and possibly Larry Carlton. Drummers ; one stands out , which is Steve Gadd, possibly because of his incredible "chops" or the unique sound of his Yamaha drums.
Listen to The Yardbirds and you can easily tell who is playing whether its Jimmy Page, Clapton or Jeff Beck.
I'm pretty sure that there is a Yardbird song that Page plays pretty much the same opening bars of the solo as he does on Dazed and Confused.

how do you see that?
its an app called stats.fm, I think it costs about 3 quid for the full version but if you listen to shit loads of music I'd say its worth it.
bit of a faff to start with if you want your entire listening history all the way back to when you first got Spotify, you need to email them and request all of the files in .json format (or something like that) then you upload them to the app and away you go.
gives you stats for daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and entire history, times listened, most listened tracks, artists and albums.
its more accurate than wrapped as well I find.

My Oasis stats from spotify
I don't know what the top 250 tracks are or how they are worked out but considering the amount of music that I listen to, Oasis are right up there at number 6.

I''d love to get an amp that I can use a looper on, I've only got a spark and a Katana mini though and it sounds pretty terrible through both of them, I've got a real cheap one that work "ok" with the katana but it still isn't brilliant

Molly Tuttle is on 'Front Row', Radio 4 now.
I **** love Molly Tuttle, she's amazing.
I've been listening to a lot of Stephen WIlson Jr just lately, he's great, this album is up there with Charles Wesley Godwin's recent efforts

I want to see Everton get relegated but I want it to be through them being shit, not through them getting a 20 point deduction.
I really think this just highlights how unbalanced these rules in the league are.

Well done mate. Do you have a target of where you want to get to?
Also are you never going to allow yourself any treats? Or will you when you get to target?

Well, it'll be 3 months tomorrow since I first got myself back in the gym and I've just weighed myself, I've only gone and lost a total of 42lbs ain't I.
I'm absolutely buzzing, can't believe I've dropped so much, 3st in 3 months.
I still say that for me the most beneficial thing about doing the low carbs shit is that it removes so many options.
Yesterday I was in the office and someone bought in donuts, crisps, chocolates and caked (no idea what the occasion was) but I didn't indulge in any of it, way back when I was watching my weight before I would have said to myself "go on, you were good yesterday, you can have a donut, and just go and snaffle a shit load of crisps and you can make up for it tomorrow" the fact that I can't even have a sneaky packet of hula hoops has been the main thing for me, I think, that and completely knocking the takeaways and lager on the head. The fact it is so restrictive is actually a major bonus for me.

Set myself a target to watch at least 100 movies this year. I only managed 67 last year, that's what having a kid does to you.
Already up to 5
Saltburn
Train to Busan
Do the Right Thing
When Evil Lurks
Toy Story 4All been watched so far this month. Trying to stick to at least one new (ish) release and one old release from my watchlist every week
Society of the Snow will probably be next
I don't have an actual target but so far since the new year, off the top of my head I have watched:
When Evil Lurks
Hell House LLC
Poltergeist 2
Burying The Ex
Memories of Camp Crystal Lake (not a film but a big ass documentary on all the Friday 13th films)
Silence of the Lambs
The Shining
Doctor Sleep
Those are the ones I properly watched, if you add in the ones that I have had on in the background while I'm playing my guitar and just generally dicking about then you could probably add another 5 or 6 onto it lol
Really enjoyed Hell House LLC, just watching the second one now.

You won’t regret it.
Well, you might actually. I did! But not because it wasn’t a good film
I can’t remember the last time I was genuinely scared by a horror movie. I actually considered turning this off at one point because I was finding the tension unbearable
I've just renewed Shudder, are there any other gems on there, I haven't had this for about 2 years now so hopefully there is a few things that I can take a look at.

I sold my Martin Backpacker the other day, didn't get as much as I wanted for it but I was struggling to get anyone interested in it.
The kid that came also offered to buy my Squire bass and Epi Les Paul while he was here.
I have been really toying with the idea of getting a Gretsch G5422TG but that would mean selling my Les Paul, I've had it for about 23 years I think, I know that if I sold it then I would miss it and now I'm operating a one in out policy.
I think I'm just going to have to admire the Gretsh from afar unfortunately.

If you've not seen Golden Balls, it's actually brilliant TV. People can be utter utter assholes, and psychology is laid bare in that show. Radiolab did a brilliant podcast on a particular episode, which I would highly recommend.
Didn't somebody pretty much break the entire TV show when they told the other dude that he was going to steal and then split the money with him afterwards, basically a case of trust me or neither of us are leaving with anything.
Don't think it lasted much longer after that.
-
I also watched the new Chappelle special, thought that was brilliant
-
I managed to drag my sorry ass back to the gym this morning, felt good to be in there again even if I didn't do a fat lot, it was more about just getting back on the hoss today more than anything.
Same again tomorrow I reckon.

Never been a fan of Ricky Gervais, I loved The Office but never anything else that he has ever done.
There is a difference between telling jokes that are offensive because they are funny and then telling jokes that are offensive because you have turned it into your "thing" and now you have to be as offensive as possible.
That is what I assume it would be like with him anyways, I've never watched any more than 5 minutes of his stand up shows.
Just watched The new Gervais Netflix thing, it was shit, I love dark offensive comedy, Gervais just isn't funny.
The only bit that very nearly raised a chuckle from me was he was having his rant about the racist, homophobic, anti semitic cripple Timmy.

after the next week or so those who start with good intentions will ultimately give up leaving the usual faces at the gym.
This is the one thing that actually puts me off going back tomorrow, it'll most likely be rammed and because I haven't been for a while I'll look like one of the "new years resolution" crowd.
Silly I know, just gotta get that first visit out of the way.
QuoteMy problem is during the week at lunchtime. It's always sandwiches, boring bland sandwiches usually white bread.
This was a big struggle for me, especially when I was working 9-5 in the office, I only tend to have one or two meals a day now though, I don't barely eat anything during the day now.

Happy New Year ! So what is everyone’s plans for 2024 in this section ? I’m still continuing with zero alcohol ( since October 23)with watching what I snack on and generally trying to live healthier . Really looking forward to the ongoing conversations as we progress with our journeys !
good luck everyone
For me, my plans are to keep doing what I've been doing for the past few months, I've managed to lose over 30lbs so far and if I can do that again then I'll be pretty happy.
I pretty much sacked off the gym for the whole of December, with the meals and general shite temptations that comes with Christmas, plus the cold mornings and dark nights I decided to have a break from it, it was pre-planned though and I've stuck to eating sensibly wherever possible, I weighed myself this morning and I've managed to pretty much maintain where I was since just before Christmas so I'm pleased with that.
Back in the gym as of tomorrow though, no excuses of shit food, big dinners or events to keep me out.

I like both of the G&S tracks, like Bilson said, I love Squires guitar work, especially on another rainbow, I just have to prepare to mentally zone out when Liam starts randomly listing colours.
Mars to Liverpool is decent as well, I've listened to both of them a shitload and I'm looking forward to the album
