  1. thanks for the heads up regarding having to return home on the J1 visa. All im really after is sometime in the country to find an employer. I can pay the visa cost just need to be taken on.

Ive noticed theres a fiance visa which gives me three months in America for us to get married. I don't know exactly what makes me uncomfortable about it, just marriage seems so huge and id hate her feeling like i was a burden on her. I hate getting help from people. I know its not the manly thing to say but I cant afford the wedding id want to have and to give her.

oh and im a brit btw. born and raised in brum. just moved away the last couple of years

thanks for all the input lads. appreciate it. heads kind of all over the shop atm

  2. Thanks for the answers lads

I have been spoken to two schools about masters courses and have the possibility of doing that. Though it would cost me around $40,000 dollars for tuition and living costs. I have about $20,000 in saving but I am not eligible for loans from anywhere for the rest so I'm looking at partial scholarships but I understand they are a long shot. The authority, what visa did you start with? Can i get a student visa even if i'm not doing a full masters course?

The other thing I should admit is that I have actually met a US lady. That's the reason I want to move there. Weve been together 18 months and it will be over two years by the time we head to America, but I feel scummy doing the marriage thing. I love her but I don't want to say we got married for a visa. I know we would wait to be married if we could chose. Maybe I hold marriage as something too sacred

I'm gonna take a look at that forum for British expats

  3. We have a very international bunch on here so I thought I'd asked for a bit of advice or hints.

Basically I currently live in Korea (having lived in Canada before) but grew up in the UK and lived there until 2 and 1/2 years ago. In august my contract here finishes and I want to move to NYC. Getting a Canadian work visa was easy where as a Korean visa was long and frustrating.

I know I have to find an employer to sponsor my visa and that the job must be of a certain professional level to qualify.

What I'm after is any advice on how to find companies that may be willing to sponsor someone and how I may stop firms just tossing my resume away as soon as they see I need a visa

I have the degree and lots of relevant experience in working for non for profit organisation and I'm willing to pay all the visa costs myself.

Anyone ever moved to the USA on a work visa? How did you find your employer? Anything I should be aware of?

  4. Back on topic:-

Umbrellas, anyone who uses one - firing squad, no trial

You're crazy. This is Britain. Where it pisses down all the time. Umbrellas are a bit of a nuisance at times, but totally necessary.

You won't wash away, get wet and stop slowing me down whilst trying to poke my eye out and taking up more than your allotted space on the pavement.

Slightest hint of wind and their useless (and even more dangerous!), rain quite often comes with wind.

Umbrellas are the greatest piece of emperors new clothes in technology ever!

    Grrr I f**king hate umbrellas

Living somewhere with a monsoon season quickly changes peoples opinions about umbrellas. You would find yourself pretty ill pretty quick without one, plus the drowned rat look is never good.

  5. Yes, as an Aberdeen man I'm hoping (against hope) that Aberdeen can grab 2nd :)

In the nicest way possible, nah! :P Surely its going to be either Hearts or Dundee United (hopefully the latter as I have sympathies for them). Don't reckon Motherwell can pull out another good season.

This tiny debate shows how much more interesting the SPL already is

  6. I understand the lost of money through tv and sponsorship, but for me this will make next seasons SPL MORE interesting. It makes the league more competitive, yes i know the qualities gone but it offers a great chance to the other teams to win something or challenge

  7. San Jose vs Galaxy was an exciting game to watch. Not the highest standard but a lot of effort with San Jose coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3. Beckham lost his cool at teh end at booted the ball at the ref and an injured player. He and Keane looked very frustrated throughout

  8. Working in South Korea at the moment so lunches can be very interesting. Some days its incredible, yesterday i had a sweet and sour pork dish with a tofu soup, a fresh salad followed by kiwis, for about 1 quid! Theres also been grilled duck, amazing chicken or beef curries and something called jajangmyon which is a black noodle dish that im addicted too.

Other days its pretty strange, including snails, acorn jelly, squid, raw fish, raddish or seriously smelly whole fish.

It always comes with a side of Kimchi, rice and some other pickled vegatable. Ive lost a fair bit of weight out here but im very healthy

  9. I want a manager who has played the game been a success touched trophies

Not some translator with a digital watch

Mourinho, Wenger, Sven, AVB, Rafa and Sacchi all ruled out then

Sven ha ha that's a joke yes

The guy did ok at Lazio 10 years ago for sure

But did you see how much money he spent to get that success

    Chequebook manager

Im not saying I want Sven but putting setting the criteria of hiring someone who played at the highest level and won stuff rules out a lot of great candidates.

I know my views arent the same as everyone on here, and id be happy enough with OGS, Lambert, Poyet Rodgers, etc but I think there are some other strong andidates out there

I like Rangnick a lot and as Ive said in the past I would be interested to see how Platt would do.

  10. Right thing to do and the playrs should be proud f it. We will never see it in the premier league, all it cares about is money. I note the second keeper didnt fancy going along with it though, arsehole.
