Is it me or should we be looking at getting better strikers than other peoples cast offs!
Smith and the no necked thug would have been good signings under the old regime, however with the backing we now enjoy combined with the popularity of the league in general surely it would be better to go for one of Europe’s leading marksmen such as Huntelaar or Alves.
Who knows, they may turn out to be next years Berbatov!
-
quite abit of intrest in samuel, boy are these clubs going to be disappointed
Get a bit of self esteem into that lad, and we are the ones who will look stupid.
Maybe a few years back but we now have a club who can attract a better kind of player than jlloyd could ever become....and I have always been a fan of his!
-
Kallstrom would be great!!
Why would Juve buy Boruc as they already have the best keeper in the world??
Word on the Italian grapevine is Buffon is off to Inter for 40 odd million.
-
Linked to sidwell in todays paper and also Boruc is a target for Juve as well as ourselves!
I think Juve are going to be the the only team in world football with more 'linked' players than ourselves!
-
Id be quite happy with him as hes looked the part whenever i have seen him play!
-
Excuse me i didn't infer that Bullard was like Berger i said the team need's a younger version of Berger, secondly no he's nowhere near as good as Parker and who would he replace in our side exactly?, Petrov?, Young?, everyone's hero Barry?, he's around 29 or something and has missed the whole season through injury, it's time villa fans started thinking bigger than the likes of Bullard!!, thank god O'Neill seems to be thinking along the same lines as me.
You dont like Bullard do you :winkold:
IMO Bullard is one of the most underrated midfielders in the league, it was no coincidence Wigan have slumped dramatically without his drive in the middle of the park!
Can you tell me why we dont need a box to box , goal scoring midfielder, who has already proven himself in this league?
...and you cant use the fact he is 29 against him as by common opinion he should be approaching his peak (He is actually twenty eight), and would give him plenty of time to recover from his injuries!
-
jimmy Bullard a great signing?, i don't think so at all, blimey what on earth would he bring to our team?, we need real class players to move forward not Wigan rejects, a quality young play maker in the mould of Berger would be nice and also a ball playing defensive midfielder, Bullard is none of those.
You cant really class Bullard and Berger as similar targets!
I agree that we need more class or 'panache' in the team but this must be fused with players that will graft at a consistent and high level. I would class bullard in the Parker or dare i say it Ian Taylor type that most good teams need.....i think this also answers what id hope he'd bring to the team!
-
IMO Bullard would be a great signing!

NOOOO! Villa should never buy Man Utd players cos it nearly always goes tits up!
Now thats not always the case, is it?
Agree with you on all the current links though!
-
The main difference is that last year was about all we could hope for with the resources we had however the potential of the current crop is quite promising!
-
Don't know enough of this Quaresma. Portugese? Where does he play now?
He plays for Porto but Inter are supposed to be virtually certain of his signiture!
....worth a shot though!
-
Scott Parker would be my number 1 target but I fear his type of player is still a few years away from us!
-
thats to go to arsenal not us
i haven't read the article but if he was watching arsenal vs villa then its pretty obvious which team he might join
It would make far more sense what with Lehmann haggling over his contract!
....but still its the NOTW so i wont be thinking of putting him in next seasons fantasy football team just yet!
-
NOTW has a small article in the exposed bit that said Artur Boruc was in a Villa box when we played Arsenal and when someone asked what he was doing there he was quickly rushed away, £4mill is what they recon he'll cost.
Dont you just love the sunday papers!
-
Yes i want them to qualify and win it if they can!
Shoot me but my likeing or disliking of the present manager has nothing to do with the fact that come the summer 08 I will be an England fan, and would be gutted if they were not there!
USA 94 might as well of not happened for all the interest i had in it!
My other reasoning is that if he is axed our current manager would be top of everyones list to replace him!
-
I love doing these teams!!
----------------------M. murray------------------
L.Young------Cahill--------Heinze---------Bridge
SWP--------Appiah-------Matuzalem--------Barry
-----------Carew-------------Bellamy--------------
Someone else who does not rate almost everone in the current team!
-
....or even Sol Cambell!
Not exactly a spring chicken but could do a great job for a few seasons and would make a great role model for Ridge and Cahill!
-
But if we were to sign a new central defender, who would you like at VP?
Someone good in the air to make us more solid at defending set pieces and with good organisational and leadership qualities. Whats Tony Adams doing now!
Seriously Scharner would fit the bill for me!
-
Still think he would be a good addition to the team!
-
forget arouna kone, id have jefferson farfan! plus sidwell, plus reo coker, plus defoe, plus barton, plus wes brown
You were going well there untill the end....Wes feckin Brown!
The most injury plagued (Villa defenders accepted) overrated defender in the premiership!
As you can probably tell I dont really like him that much!
-
Anyone see us being interested in Bale?
I doubt it, he'll end up at Spurs or Manyoo. I watched him play against Preston the other night and was distinctly unimpressed anyway.
He has man u plastered all over him!
Spurs dont stand a chance!

The casting people certainly deserve an honourable mention for giving Craig the role as from an outside view he not Bond.....but it just worked!!
didn't really take a genuis casting director.
Anyone who has seen Layer Cake (great film) would have realised that Craig would make an excellent Bond.
Did you really think that when watching Layer Cake Jon....Hmmmm? :winkold:
Anyway there is a lot of difference between thinking he would make a good Bond and putting your money/reputation where your mouth is, for that reason he/she deserves cudos!
-
Nigel I suppose that depends on the trouble. As I say, we don't know what's going on. We also don't know the extent of it. By all accounts it's not 'any sign' of trouble. From what's leaking out, the place is in absolute sh*t. We don't know whether he's been made a scapegoat. I just see it as a good opportunity to buy a player while his stock is low. After all, a high flying confident brink-of-England-call-up NRC would be closer to £8m. Speculate to accumulate and all that.
Very true, im only playing devils advocate!

Allback did a good job for us, but he is barely gonna move us into the position we want to be!
