6 - ...Oh ! and we have never lost the FA Cup (stolen)...the fact we've never won one is irrelevant ...8 - Their winning goal in 1982 was flukey, scored from...a cross supplied by another old Blues player Tony Morley (well he joined us afterwards)....
Sheer class!!!

Cripes, this thread shows what thin gruel Villa fans have lived for most of the 2000s and just how a weak midfield was a big part of the problem.
I've gone for Merse despite the fact that he wasn't a CM and didn't play for much of the decade. But he was better than Tayls.

Solano only played for us for about a season and a half before he emptied his locker and **** off back to Newcastle so for me it has to be Jimmy.

I always used to rate Hughes but I guess all that money is bound to go to anyone's head. He has been making arsey statements for some time now.Did anyone else notice how much of a spoilt drawer (if there's such a thing?) Mark Hughes was in his post-match interview? He should take a lesson or two from MON in how to be gracious in defeat, draw and victory when doing an interview. He's gone up in my estimation of nearly being more of a rocket polisher than Redknapp. On the match in general, I'm a bit disappointed to be frank. Thought we should have put the game to bed in the first 60 minutes. Milner could and should have scored.
Still, the joy of seeing Dunne outfox Barry for the first goal will have to keep me happy for now.

Merson doesn't really pass this test:
so I held my nose and voted Barry.(The person you pick should ideally be somebody who excelled post 2000, rather than excelled previously and crossed over into post 2000) -
If he does pass on the words of wisdom, I hope he pauses first to wonder why these stats start at 15 November.
Maybe because taking a different time frame they wouldn't look so conclusive? :winkold:

That sounds very poor. No place for that at our club at all.racist fans making monkey actions and noises towards a Blackburn player. -
This is odd. You've give Petrov and Delph 8s and then said the midfield looked vulnerable. These two judgements surely cannot sit sensibly together.Guzan 8- had a few difficult things to deal with and dealt with everyting excellently.Beye 7-solid and dependable
Cuellar-8* superb
Collins-6 Bothroyd caused him problems in the first half i thought. Generally dependable, but was caught in possession in the second half which could have cost us.
Shorey 7-good in possession and going forwards
Gardner 6-unfortunately as this was the league cup Gardner got his game as MON is obliged to play him at some stage. He did some good things, but MON seems to think he is a right winger which clearly he is not. Poor management and I felt for him at times. Albrighton should've played in ths position.
Petrov-8 made some nice interceptions. This poorer standard of opposition suits petrov though, as he seems to have plenty of time on the ball. Nice passing. Look beyond the excellent technique on the surface and he is still a major issue defensively in a 4 4 2.
Delph 8- Lively and an excellent range of passing. Somehow found himself in a midfield with Petrov again which fundamentally failed against Wigan, and again it looked vulnerable with Cardiff in possession.
Milner 7- a little wasteful unfortunately but the work rate was there again, and I also think he is equally as effective as Young on the left on current form.
Carew 6- didn't do enough, but his run leading up to the goal was excellent.
Gabby 7-Played with confidence, good goal, and looks to be shrugging off the 'lazy' tag.
Albrighton 8- could make the grade, and should've started ahead of Gardner in that position.
MON 5-unconvincing team selection and again failed to make changes. Petrov in a 4 4 2 against a team playing 5 across the middle was again overlooked and we got away with it, and Gardner IS NOT a right midfielder. No sign of NRC which is worrying. Play this system against Man City and Chelsea, and fans will begin to lose faith again.
-
Carew crossed i to Gabby & he backheeled it into the corner of the net.any idea what the goal was like folks??. -
Did Brian Little score?Cardiff have not played Villa since a 2-0 Division Two defeat at Villa Park in April 1975 as the Midlanders eased towards top-flight promotion, while the Welsh club were eventually relegated.I remember this game. They kept eleven men in and around their own penalty area the whole time while Villa had some ridiculous number of corners (about 30 or something) before finally scoring after about 70 minutes.
Same again tonight will do (but hopefully we won't need quite so many corners).
Come on lads, lets have a good Cup run at last!
-
Trouble is, I have to vote, or the enormous majority of fans who are perfectly content with how MON is running things will look just a little bit smaller. :winkold:If you think it's pointless, don't vote or comment.
-
I would still complain about this being a pointless exercise even if there was such a thrilling introduction every week, I'm afraidmaybe there should be a standard paragraph added to the first post of every one of these polls explaining that it is an opinion poll to guage week on week support of the manager, that way we wont have to wade through countless daft posts of people saying that it is pointless and you have asked exactly the same question as last week. -
Let's face it, you have no idea if this is true. With the training bust up with Reo-Coker he's gonna have a job on his hands managing the squad I feel.UTV!
There certainly didn't seem to be any evidence of dissent/low morale today, did there?
-
Can't decide if Gabby was MOTM or Friedel. Certainly we owe a big part of our win to that pair. Defence looked good again.
-
Just saw a screen saying Villa 5- Pompey 5 and wondered if I'd missed some goals but it was corners. 8)
-
Delph on for Heskey. What larks!
-
I was wondering that too. Will we get him all season?1st class commentary. why is this muppet always covering our games -
Silly card for Gabby.
-
Defence is looking pretty solid.
-
Well you asked for a sub!
-
Heskey on for Carew.
-
Hmmm... Pompey getting into the game a bit now. Need to check this.

What a shot! Thought that was in.

Cripes, the past 10 years have been dire.
How come 12 people think Whittingham was better than Young? Does he have a large family still living in the area?
