  1. Great article, superbly written. All the best Lee wherever you go. Could never fault your passion, just its application.
  2. OK guys and gals, i have the opportunity to buy the Sigma 70-300mm APO f4-5.6 DG for just over £100 new, does anyone use or have experience with this lens that can tell me if it's any good?
  3. There is no filter thread Bicks, but it takes gel filters slotted into the back aparently. Little too expensive for me, but looks nice.
  4. I think 6MP is fine for a compact, you'll not need any more than that unless your printing above A4 size. Fuji make good compacts too, i use a Kodak which did me fine till i got my Canon DSLR, but the missus uses a fuji 5MP and the resolution is great... the colours are fantastic, but can occasionally be too saturated. I don't know whether the Argos spec is right, but 200 pics from 4x4AA batteries sounds a big energy hungry to me, this is the only thing that'd concern me about the Fuji. I also think you should do a quick online search to fing the best price, you may even get a price match of a local store to save the hassle of mail order. Oh... you will get the bug, trust me
  5. Actually, THIS is me in NZ with the missus... errr... i'm the one on the right.
  6. This is me in some bar down Leith, some weirdo kept trying to take my photo so i just pretended to be asleep. (I'm the one on the right)
  7. Slight fringing on the hairline, and spherical abberations in the glasses!
  8. Llyn Du'r Arddu - Love this pic Bicks! Why the difference between this and the stitched one?... was it just that the sun went in, or did you tweak the levels of the first one in PS?
  9. ... and this one. I like them, but other peoples opinion seems to be divided.
  10. Peterms - Third one for me (except for the horizon), lovely light. A couple of my mates were up that way this weekend too. Also photograph bods! (and Edinburgers) Cat - I just finished reading a book i think you'd enjoy. The Complete Guide to Close-Up and Macro Photography, by Paul Harcourt Davies. It's aimed mainly at SLR users, but has a lot of stuff in it which i think you'd like. Very much your type of photography!
  11. Yeah, great shots. I prefer the first one for its composition and contrasting background... but each to their own. The last one is very different to the other three, so don't discount this one. It works in its own way too.
  12. Cat - Love those shots, i gave it a try but with a 210mm lens i couldn't get the magnification. Havn't really looked at them off camera yet, but did consider trying to be the first to post eclipse shots... glad i didn't as i think yours are way better than mine will turn out to be. Bicks - Love the top one, even if only because i can't work out what exactly it is or how you did it. Wurzel - Did you spend the day at a petting zoo The cat shot is my favourite there
  13. Hey folks, Just dicovered this thread and was hooked enough to spend three hours reading the whole thing. (Well... i actually can't read, i just look at the pictures :winkold: ) Was thoroughly entertaining, so much so it's inspired me to de-lurk and post something for a change. I know the thread start is months old, but not to me! So i thought i'd share with you a couple of pics in the Sunset/Pier category. They're from Thailand and were taken on a very basic compact... and yes... it was this colour! Thoughts and criticisms are greatly appreciated and heartily encouraged. Cheers for the entertainment.
