I just can't see him starting both Bailey and Diaby - maybe Zaniolo, but of late he's gone with four of the hard working midfielders and then one creative off Watkins.

We've only started both in two games, the 4-0 win at home over Everton and the 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on the opening day.

Well they were both entertaining at least!

Martinez was my MOTM, Superb handling and some important saves. Thought the ref started OK but fell for Arsenal's play acting later on and gave them weak free kicks while ignoring their indiscretions time after time. Carlos was lucky with a yellow and Doug was reckless kicking Jesus's leg in the penalty area. We missed a few break away chances that would have put this to bed earlier and punish the Arsenal high press.

Doug and Kamara can play in Europe and rest against Brentford, I think they need it tbh especially Doug. Could do with McGinn having one as well. Dendoncker had a decent run out and will need to play some games to relieve the pressure from certain players.

I love Emery, he's brought so much joy to the us villa fans, he's the best manager I have seen for us, Atkinson, MON, Gregory and Little. This guy bests them all, Taylor (mk1) was arguably as good but his football wasn't as pretty

Kamara will be available against Brentford won't he, served a suspension against Bournemouth?

Its one thing, not scoring, and its another, not being a threat.....and a further thing, not being able to stay on the ball, with a frame like he has, he shouldn't be dispossessed so easy.

Sadly, it looks like he is going backwards.....I don't know why, or if its off the field issues.

I am reluctant to speculate, because thats all it is, and its no help.....I truly wish the boy could come good.

I saw him as like a Dominik Szoboszlai style...but so far, not to be.

Not sure, what the outcome, will be.

Agreed, I want him to he a sucess but I'm struggling for an area where he's adding value to the team.

Fact that there is less pressure on him due to the signings of Diaby and Zaniolo I feel helped.

This could be true, or the extra competition to sharpen your mind.  As others have said, being fully fit has helped too.

or the fact that his manager now knows what he is doing at the top end of football club management and knows how to utilise him to get the best out of him?

In fairness that's part of the same thing

  6. Key to his turnaround this season is his confidence and directness.  Been a sensation so far with a huge increase in goal contributions.  Great to see, really pleased for him

  7. Not really sure why he keeps starting games tbh, he's looked poor for some time and doesn't even put a shift in to protect the team.  I'd rather we dlsent him back and used the wages elsewhere

Legia keeper looked good in a sweeper keeper role and is only 22. If we are looking for a back up maybe its a scouting option as granted this is just a one off viewing

Interesting, I thought he looked a bit dodgy performing that role today

Another win while not expending much energy.  Its a tactic from him it feels. Manage the workload of players. Get as many of the fringe players on the park while still winning. Winning while not playing at full intensity is a skillset. Might be frustrating at times but he has been doing weekends and midweek games for 16 seasons now. He knows what is needed.  Keeps the buy in from as many players as possible. The train keeps rollin on.... choo choo

Agree with this, does feel like there is some management of energy during these games.
