It is if you want to turn Murder into manslaughter, IMO.

(That's a comment on the situation the plod face, not your views/input)

It may be but you're right it's a comment on the situation plod face and not about the point I was making.

What confuses me is why you're so insistent that it's totally unreasonable that someone would feel more scared if someone was aggressive towards them and their principal method of defending themselves wasn't working.

I'm not insistent that 'it's totally unreasonable that...' - what I'm saying is that giving people a get out that they might feel frightened because the first two acts of force have failed to elicit the desired effect isn't a very good line to take.

Edit: The stuff you were saying about them being angry seems quite obviously true. How much of that might be because they were genuinely frightened or scared in the first instance and that escalated to being really and reasonably scared for their safety and the safety of others and spilt in to anger and frustration at the ineffectiveness of the weapon in its first two deployments or that they were pissed off that someone was being loud and aggressive towards their boyfriend/girlfriend late at night one can only guess.

Yeah, it'd certainly be weird if they were perfectly calm and in control of the situation and then got scared purely because they decided to tase him for no reason and it failed. That's why I never suggested that happened.

It definitely wouldn't be weird if they were scared because he was acting aggressively and they tried to bring the situation under control by using a taser, and that didn't work. It's always scary when you're trying to deal with a dangerous situation and what you're doing isn't working.

Sure, you can assume the police just decided that it would be fun to tase Dalian for absolutely no reason if you want. Maybe you're right. Given the absence of video footage we'll never know for sure.

However given what I read in the articles, it seems more likely to me that he was initially aggressive and the police overreacted and killed him (the scale of the overreaction implies to me they were genuinely scared; although again I don't think that in any way excuses what happened).

What a load of cock. :D

There doesn't seem to be bodycam footage or reliable testimony about exactly what happened at the start of the incident, but given both policemen had been on the force for some time I think it's safe to assume they didn't just murder everyone they met unprovoked.

I assume Dalian did something aggressive and they tased him in self-defence, which initially failed and then they massively overreacted to the perceived threat and killed him in the process. It in no way excuses his killing even if he was aggressive at the start of the encounter.

The issue is the police should be trained how to use proportional force, and not apply extra force once the person stops being a danger. That clearly didn't happen here.

Simply because the police officers (one man and one woman) don't 'just murder everyone they meet unprovoked' doesn't mean that it's safe to assume that their initial reactions to any particular incident are reasonable, proportionate or necessary. It would, therefore, be a mistake to view any subsequent actions necessarily as originating from an interplay such as that.

This, however, ignores my point that a failure of two lots of physical actions to secure their desired effects shouldn't be allowd to be any sort of reasonable excuse for feeling frightened.

Well done for telling them, it's much easier said than done and most employers really will want to help.

Over half my life, starting as a kid, I've really struggled with mental health and suicidal thoughts and the entirety of me talking about it to anyone is a couple of posts on here. Is anyone else in a similar situation? I decided long ago I will never tell my family as I've heard them deride mental health issues for years and I don't see what I have to gain from them knowing. Similar to my friends. I feel like telling them the truth now will just make them feel guilty and I know it wont make me feel any better. Tbh for about 10 years of my life the only thing that kept me alive was guilt at the thought of putting my family through another personal tragedy.

I also ended up getting in a bad situation with payday loans a few years ago and was too afraid to tell anyone. It all started because I was afraid to ask my dad for about £500 an ex housemate screwed me on when we moved out as I knew it would just result in lots of tutting and the assumption I spent all my money getting pissed. The end result was I spent about £25k in interest over a few years and I only kept my head above water as I moved to higher paid jobs a few times when I was right on the edge. No one in my life has any idea about any of it. Again, I kept quiet as I heard so much judgement over the years about these morons using payday loans etc and I didn't want to ask for help when vulnerable just to be berated. I have nothing to gain from telling them about this either as again I just know they'd feel guilty.

I guess my point is for people to be conscious about how they judge other people in trouble as, with someone like me, who doesn't like to ask for help anyway you risk making them completely shut off.

What kind of position are you in now? No judgement.

Murder would indicate there was intent to kill Dalian.

    I don't think that's right.

If there's an intent to cause GBH and murder (death) results then that's sufficient.

I can understand the police being frightened especially given they previously tased him twice to no effect

    What?

They were a danger because my first two punches didn't seem to hurt?

  9. It's an interesting situation, isn't it?

A discussion about women looking for a date being bombarded with male dick pics, something almost universally unwelcome but that still happens all the time, has morphed into a chat about how welcome men would feel about getting sent random pictures of a woman's genitalia, something which happens almost never.

I think I see an issue, here.

    🤷‍♂️

No this year is just odd. In a normal year, Wales wouldn't have won I don't think, they'd have had a much tougher game against England for starters and the lack of atmosphere in away games too

But I don't think Autumn form is that comparable to 6N form in a normal year either

    Yep, I get that.

Not sure that 6N form necessarily translates beyond the competition, though, does it? How many 6N top sides convert that to World Cup/southern hemisphere tour performances?*

women will be experiencing the app differently - good and bad

From what I've heard and discussed, women on dating apps and sites overwhelmingly get the bad. Over and over again. Disgraceful shite.

Occasionally they get the good. Be the good.

"Calm and proportionate" are not words I would use to describe how HMG handled itself during Brexit.

I think @Davkauswas referring specifically to this incident about Jersey and the shenanigans around it rather than the wider tone of the UK government before, during and after leaving the EU.
