  1. Stewart Lee was excellent.

Mark Thomas is very, very good and very ranty but also really makes you feel as though you're not alone in your hatred and despair at the state of the world (seen him several times).

    Mark Steel - excellent.

Rich Hall and his music stuff - great, especially him dissecting Folsom Prison Blues.

  2. Now that the main event is apparently over (I'm just guessing on timings and the fact that normal noise levels outside have begun to return), I suppose we just have to suffer all of the post match analysis, continued fawning and oleaginous deference for a few more weeks.

Let's hope we get a reasonable break before the bloody coronation.

Genuine questions from an outsider, for those who do not like the monarchy. Why do y’all want to rid yourselves of the monarchy? What are the positives of changing to a republic that you don’t get with a monarchy? What is wrong with the monarchy staying intact since it is mostly a ceremonial post at this point?

If it's mostly ceremonial (I'd contend that it very much is not) then we should run a lottery every four or five years and give the post of head of state/monarch (and the power, privilege and wealth that comes with it) to whoever randomly wins.

Btw, I think we should do this anyway just to reinforce the idea of how big of a part luck plays in life outcomes.

China measures poverty as anyone living on less than $2.30 a day.

UK poverty level (2020) is £141 per week, which is $24 a day.

But obviously, the British person is worse off than a Chinese peasant because their expectations are higher.

It's not just about the expectation of linen shirts but the cost of them in each country.

We haven’t bothered with spuds this year. There must be something not quite right about our soil, but whatever type of ‘tato we plant they are almost impossible to cook. They flake up in to spud soup. We’ve managed to use them up as chips and roasties rather than bin them but we decided this year just not to bother.

Worth trying them in bags/sacks (even just inverted empty compost bags work well). That's what I've tended to do for the last couple of years. First earlies, second earlies and main crop (though not main crop this year due to space/timing issues).
