  1. I had a mate that used to live with me who was trained in law, I raised this with him one drunken night and he seemed to think it was actually next to impossible to get out, due to something that happened in the early 70's. Can't remember what it actually was but it sounded pretty boring when I was pissed.

    Erm, hope that helps.

  2. Yes. I worked with a guy from hong kong years ago who showed me how to hold them properly and it made it a whole lot easier. The key is, only one stick moves, the other is rock steady all the time

Yep. However when it comes to hot and sour soup, I either ask for a spoon or just drink it like coffee. I'm a huge fan of hot and sour soup :P

I've made a mental note to have Chinese Saturday night now, thanks to this thread. It's been a few months.....

  3. I still think Nadal will eventually match or overtake Federer but time will tell.

It depends, I'm of the opinion that Nadal sticks out like a sore thumb now because he took the physicality of the 90s/early 00s tennis and took it to 11. Leaving previously very good players in the dust (apart from Federer in most cases). Whereas with most of the younger guys coming through now they are able to match him physically, so his effect may not be so great in the future. He's still a great player but his strength has always been his sheer athleticism as opposed to Federers artisty so to speak.

Regardless of what records say though, Borg will always be the best because he was a cool really bad person who won everything and retired early.

Can't argue with that to be honest, retiring at 25 with 11 slams in the bag is a hard act to follow. However if Nadal wins 2 slams next year he'll have matched Borg at the same age, and using a similar style. I got the feeling that Borg was pulling for Nadal a few years back at Wimbledon, think he likes his style.

Don't agree on the artistry front either, both Fed and Nadal are capable of stunning tennis. Fed does it more effortlessly, but Nadal generally wins, and that's what counts.

  4. I love Nadal and Federer, the two of them are arguably two of the GOATs, and Murray and Djokovic are unlucky to be around in the same time as these two.

There's no argument about it, they're 2 of the GOAT's.

Not a bad final tonight, but the Nadal v Murray match was better. Nadal looked **** today to be honest but Federer played extremely well and was fresh as a daisy, he steamrollered everyone this week and deserved to win.

Should be another great year next year, I can't remember a time when tennis was more exciting - and I include the Borg/McEnroe years in that as the competition now is much deeper. I still think Nadal will eventually match or overtake Federer but time will tell.

  5. Surprised with that one....wish Froch would actually use those skills more often. Really thought he'd get drawn in and get clobbered tonight so respect to Froch for showing restraint.

Just wish his horrible cuuuuunt of a missus would have shown the same restraint. What a **** foul whore she is.

  6. Hagler would have beat Calzaghe. He was a great fighter in an era of great fighters alongside Duran, Hearns and Leonard. It always make me laugh when people compare the likes of Jones Jr and the **** joke that is Bernard Hopkins to Hagler.

I agree that Hagler would have beaten Slappy Joe....but Jones Jr in his prime was a completely different kettle of fish. I'd pick Jones in that one every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Hopkins V Hagler would have been a boring fight but Marvin would have prevailed I suspect via UD.

Shame you don't rate Jones Jr, he's the best fighter of my lifetime as far as I'm concerned, I have him above all the 80's crowd. He's had bad losses recently but no worse than Leonard had at the end of his career. Hagler was smart enough to get out when he was past his best, Jones wasn't....but he still has the wins in his prime for us to remember him by.

  7. Cracking night of fights tomorrow.

I wonder how many people are even aware there is a Briton fighting for a world title tomorrow, or are even aware of who Carl Froch is? Mick Henessey really is a shit promoter.

Looking forward to it actually, is it on telly?

Slightly worried here though, Froch just keeps having war after war and eventually it's going to catch up with him and that chin will finally shatter, no-one can take what he takes and have longevity. The Abraham fight is make or break time I reckon. Neither guy is big on technique and defence that's for sure but Abraham hits like a truck. I'm picking a mid rounds stoppage for Abraham, it pains me to do it though. TKO5 would be my guess.

On a different note, I'm just reading the ESB thread about Hagler V Calzaghe....**** hell

Primetime £15 with Ward-Bika thrown in after. I can't say I'm excited about that one.

The two most obvious outcomes are AA T/KO or Froch on points. I'm leaning towards AA stoppage at the moment, although I've been changing my mind constantly. I'm not convinced Froch can fight to a game plan for 12 rounds without getting sucked into a war with AA. Also, even if he does stick to the plan, I don't think trying to emulate what Dirrell did is going to work for Carl. His footwork isn't good enough. So I can see AA cornering him in the later rounds and landing a big shot through Froch's leaky defence.

I'm not convinced Hagler could make 168 these days tbh. I'll still go with him though. :winkold:

No, I'm not paying £15 for that crap, will be a stream job again I reckon. I wouldn't pay to watch Froch fight to be honest, much as I like him he's not exactly a top quality operator. Same goes for Abraham, he might win but meh, who cares. Froch can't possibly use the same plan that Dirrell did for the reasons you stated and also because he doesn't use the jab nearly enough. This one will turn into a brawl way too quickly and I just get the feeling Froch is more shop-worn and doesn't hit hard enough in a brawl. I'll stick with my original pick of Abraham by mid rounds TKO.

As for the Hagler thing....**** hell I'm getting fed up of being accused of being old, and biased. I guess I'll just have to keep my trap shut and rely on the videos to prove my point. One has absolutely flawless technique, an iron chin and murderous intent for every minute of the fight (in his prime) and the other one made his name beating up 40 year olds with lousy technique and work-rate but got dropped in the process. I know who I fancy in this one.

  9. Oh shit yeah it makes me smile, especially the mashed spuds with half a ton of butter in them....mashed spuds and parsley sauce is awesome.

As for crap food I just remembered I cracked open a sached of pasta n sauce last night when I was wankered, that surely qualifies? Great drinking food but I'd never eat that crap sober, same with pot noodles and burgers/fish fingers.

  10. What else has she been in then? Can't say I've ever noticed her before....I prefer her to Dexters frigid missus though and like the way she's becoming a partner in crime like that bloke was in the 3rd series. Hope she doesn't meet the same fate, it'd be a criminal waste of gash.

  11. After a pretty slow start, Dexter is coming nicely to the boil.

Nice to see Dex go badass in the alley....and Peter Weller is excellent as the sleazy arsehole Liddy

I've really got into series 5 as it's gone along....it's not as good as 4 but John Lithgow was always going to be impossible to follow.

I'd shag the **** arse off that Lumen bird though, not exactly beautiful but she just looks filthy.

  12. Yes, I'm pretty sure the bailout was timed to prevent another countries (least of all the British) military from looking bad.

    Good thinking there Sherlock.

    It is disgraceful though.

wouldn't surprise me but you may have a point

My old man was on Christmas Island from 1958-1960 on national service and I've had him in my earhole all day about this, I guess it's sent me a bit loopy.

He's got some real horror stories to tell though in all fairness, the government puts all these horror stories down to coincidence - and obviously bribed judges let them get away with it time and time again.

  13. Oh boy, that was a devastating knockout by Martinez.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MNou7HlKBw

    Ouch!

I'm still curious as to why he threw a lead left hook with his right hand by his waist.... :)

I suspect he regrets it now though.

Because he has been using that goatee for a defence all his career. If it wasn't for that solid chin of his (although according to certain chin checkers he has a glass jaw now) it would have happened earlier.

I feel sorry for any Williams fans that went to it, although there aren't many, the undercard was atrocious and they got to see their man iced in 2.

You're going to think I'm a berk but I only ever saw Williams once before, I've not followed him that closely. I watched him beat Margarito (I think) and comparisons to Hearns were made which just turned me off him as he out-jabbed Margo for 8 rounds then suddenly gassed and got beat up for the last part of the fight and scraped a decision. Correct me if I'm wrong here because I was pretty pissed when I watched the fight but remember thinking "Tommy Hearns he **** ain't" at the end of it and I've not paid much attention since.

I did notice that it seems that Martinez is also a southpaw and maybe that's why Williams thought it was OK to lead like that....dunno just seemed a strange shot to throw while leaving your chin hanging like that, reminded me of Lewis V McCall in a lot of ways.

  14. Haye V Harrison....meh, was anyone really surprised with what happened? I predicted a first round KO for Haye and although he didn't get it it was clear that he could have, had he wanted to. Joke fight, even worse than the average Klitschko defence and that's saying something.

Haye has to fight one or both the Klitschkos next year otherwise he'll only be remembered as a joke heavyweight, and I'm sure he doesn't want that.

Thank God for Pac for giving boxing back some credibility so soon after that fiasco. I still think Mayweather will beat him pretty easily if they ever fight though, it's all up to Mayweather now though, same scenario as Haye with the Klitschkos, will Mayweather man up and take the fight?
