  1. From SkySports:

Houllier said: "It was really starting to tickle me. I wanted to go back pitchside.

"I had, of course, other proposals but this one seemed to be the most interesting in terms of working conditions and environment.

"Aston Villa is not a club on the same level as Liverpool, let's be objective and honest.

"It's a club that according to me has belonged between seventh and 12th place in the Premier League.

"But, above all, it's a historic club which has won the European Cup. It's a club which has got good infrastructure and a fine team which is after one thing - to improve year on year."

    7th and **** 12th???????????

  2. Who was the last Villa manager who never made a crud signing?

MON - several pellets of pooh amongst several diamonds.

    DOL - Djemba Djemba anyone?

GT2 - Mark 'The Crab' Kinsella, Oyvind Leonhardsen ('Is he still around?')

JG - ?? Bosko Balaban (la, la, la, la, la) And Alpay as it turned out...

Brian 'Walks On Water' Little - Fernando (why did we never sing that?) Nelson, Savo (big risk...), Franz 'The Vehicle' Carr (had one great FA Cup game vs Forest) and Carl Tiler??????

Big Ron - ? Has to be Fashanu... Nii Lamptey?

    Dr Woe - Ivo Stas...

    GT1 - Tony Cascarino.

I could say more, but you get the general idea. My point is, everyone can buy a rum one (or two).

How can you say Savo and Fernando Nelson de Jesus Viera Alves were crud???

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is ready to swoop for England World Cup striker Emile Heskey in a bargain deal.

Allardyce has demanded that his cash-conscious club dig deep for a new forward and wants to raid Aston Villa for Heskey and hit them with a £2million bid.

Heskey has slipped out of Martin O’Neill’s starting line-up and could be interested in the move for first-team football and a return to the north west of England.

Allardyce wants a striker of stature to join his squad which is looking painfully short up front where Jason Roberts is available and young Nikola Kalinic is still finding his feet.

Villa would be willing to sell Heskey and may take a low fee if Rovers can pick up his large wages and get him off the payroll just 18 months after his move from Wigan.

Allardyce has had showdown talks with his bosses about the lack of transfer activity – with Rovers not yet making a signing and the season just three weeks away.

Rovers have been the target for a takeover bid by a group of Indian businessmen, but Allardyce has told his money men that the club must invest now or put themselves in trouble.

Heskey would be a major capture for Rovers and the fact that he has quit international football means that he can concentrate on his club career.

In the Mirror so probs BS but god I hope they are right this time!

Aston Villa to make £6m swoop for Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey - report

Aston Villa are believed to be readying a £6 million bid to acquire the services of Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey.

The Frenchman put in outstanding performances throughout the course of last season, and has a contract with the Serie A club until 2013.

Meanwhile in England, the Birmingham-based club's first-choice shot-stopper, Brad Friedel, is now 39-years-old, and manager Martin O'Neill is consequently believed to be looking for a successor to the veteran custodian.

Now The Sun reports that Villa are set to test the Italian club's resolve by making a £6m swoop for the 30-year-old Frey.

However, Frey's agent recently maintained that his client will remain at the Stadio Artemio Franchi next season as well.

This would be an awesome signing! Please make this happen!

  5. Havent read any posts so dont know if Im going with the grain or not.

First 15 mins or so up to the goal we looked like we were gonna get 4 or 5 then as soon as we scored we seemed to just drain of any ability.

The effort was still there but it just seemed everyone (bar Ashley Young who on the whole played well) suddenly lost any skill or football intelligence. Everything we did never seemed to come off and Ive come away from Villa Park feeling really frustrated. Substitutions were bizarre again and even though I will support Hesky while he plays for us - what he brings to the team I can not for the life of me see. We may as well start with 10 men.

Defence made some uncharachtiaristic mistakes. Was Dunne carrying an injury?
