Watched his race to 13 clip. 4 penalties 4 free kicks. Will he take them over others if we even get that many? 4 tap ins against woeful defending. I live in NZ trust me A-League standard is junk. Leopards don't change their spots. He's a bad influence. Keep away

Still got to put away chances. Gabby wouldn't score that many in the a league. Some of his goals were class. Even when playing against Premier League opposition these clubs have completed. Not as bad as people make out it is. Obviously no way near as good.. but you can't disregard the impact he had. Better players have played in the a league and not did as well. Del piero being one.

  2. By all reports he was popular in the Melbourne dressing room. He went through a bad period of his life. He had one bad season. Gabby has had 5-6 and still features. Deserves a chance at least to redeem himself. One of my mates had a beer with him and he said he was a good bloke. Spoke highly of the club even though he had a rough time. He was upset the fans didn't see the best of him or hear his side of the story.  Didn't get along with Bruce though. So I doubt he will get another chance. Think he will be off to America.

I appreciate the info but why cant you elaborate on this?

I was told by someone that works at Melbourne City that Ross told them he's going back to England and won't be coming back. They don't know what villa want to do. That is all I know.

Well I guess it shows how badly we need a young dynamic DM, with Thors pace, Jedi's aerial prowess and Whelan's ability to read the game, add to that someone who can pass n we'd probably have the next Kante

Young man utd kid we want on loan. Final jigsaw in our promotion push. Shame we can't keep him but if he helps get us up...

Thor did well. Did what Whelan does but offers more going forward. When Barnsley got on top would have been nice to bring on Jedi to nullify them.

    Great post Marv.

I feel if we are promoted back to the PL there will be an overhaul on the entire squad.

The loans that we have signed will end, players out of contract leaving and then there is the ones that remain that also will need sold/shipped out/contracts terminated etc.

    Loans ending: Johnstone, Onomah, Snodgrass.

Out of contract: Bunn, Terry, Samba, Agbonlahor, Hutton

Players already leaving: Amavi, Gollini, Gil

Remainder that should be sold/offloaded: Richards, Elphick, De Laet, Taylor, McCormack, Tshibola, Bree, Jedinak, Whelan, Thor, Lyden, Lansbury, Hogan.

Look at loaning out: O'Hare, Davis, Green, Hepburn-Murphy, Suliman to teams in the championship.

That scenario would leave us with Steer, Chester, Elmo, Houihane, Grealish, Adomah, Kodja to build a new team on top of under the right manager.

Again this is all hypothecially speaking if we where to be promoted this season.

Dont see why we cant keep these players next season if we did go up. We cant just get rid of everyone. Doesnt work like that.

Johnstone and Snodgrass would sign for us if we went up. SJ wont go back to be 3rd choice. Snoddy hates West Ham.

Terry is a tough one.. he did say if we went up.. he may have to consider it.. i think he will play and just be left out of Chelsea games as if it was  a loan move. Or hed just get over it and be a pro and play against them. Cant see him retiring. USA maybe?

Gil - probably doesnt want to come back but since we would be back in Premier League.. maybe he may (spewing we sold Veretout.. ) Either way we cant keep loaning him. Either sell or bring back.

Elphick De Laet Bree Jedinak Thor Lansbury Hogan.. good squad players. they will be used in cup games/rotation or used if their form is good. Despite keeping the players i mentioned.. still leaves us with quite a few players to sign to keep us competitive.

Steer, Chester, Elmo, Houihane, Grealish, Adomah, Kodja - with the exception of Chester/Elmo - these players arent even proven at Premier League level..... so its a big ask to stay up.

one of which has some little lads in, one has a Villa top on.

which is now gone as well!

At 29.. coming back from 2 horror injuries.. it will be hard for him to return and find his form. Especially if we go up.. he may have to be a back up striker and we sign another big money striker. If we dont go up.. i dont think many will come in for him so he will be given a chance in the Championship to rediscover his form

  7. Been saying it for ages now.. this kid is a good player. First time at a big club and he struggled. Starting to get a run of games and hes finding his feet. Bruce could have dropped him after he didnt score in the first few but hes stuck with him and hes finally got two in two games. I hope he can continue it. Confidence can do marvelous things for a striker. Benteke was one that would go on a huge run and when he wasnt confident just wouldnt score for ages.

I like how hard he presses and his hold up play/involvement was a little better too against Forest.

  8. Anything but a Derby win will do. We have plenty of time to catch sides above.. even Wolves.. (although extremely unlikely).. I think they are going through a sticky patch of form and will continue..  we may be too far but Derby could catch them if they keep flying the way they are. (Although again.. extremely unlikely).

We could do with winning our next 4 games and going on a proper winning run. When was the last time we had won 7 in a row........

    Barnsley first...

    I agree with Tom.

Yes he had a good 45 mins on Saturday but everything prior to that has been awful. I’d go along with him and say he’s one of the worst players I’ve ever seen at Villa. Not THE worst. But he’s in the conversation.

If someone is willing to pay us money for him then sell him. 45 minutes doesn’t change my mind that he’s nowhere near good enough.

What about his 15 min cameo against Bristol where he scored? his 2 last league apperances have been good.

To be fair.. i dont think hes been great either.. but players do need time to settle sometimes. Would like to see more of him rather than Whelan if Jedinak is out before we ship him out. We seemed to have control of a game with him at CM.. we dont get that with Jedinak or Whelan. He gave us a lot of energy and calm in possession. Curious to see a little more now at CM.

  10. I am still yet to see the big hype about his performances? I will admit hes playing better but hes not impacting games enough at this level. I really did expect.. with his ability.. he should be scoring 10 goals and assisting 5-7 a season. He should walk this league.

He is starting to improve.. so hopefully he starts really firing soon. He holds the ball up well and draws alot of fouls. His biggest improvement this season is his work rate. So stoked to see him tracking back and working hard off the ball.

I may be overly critical of him.. just because i know how good he can be. He has a good shot on him.. he needs to be shooting more and less dribble near the box.

  11. I am still not a fan. Good on him for scoring a few goals and assists.. hes doing better than most.. but i dont think he should be an automatic starter. Doesnt look fit enough to me. Would like to see him more centrally too. Maybe when Green returns? Think hes a tidy player.. but out wide he just doesnt have the pace or the consistency in crossing the ball. Should never be our first choice set piece taker. Especially on free kicks. Hourihane has deserved to have first go.

Whelan is a better defensive midfielder than Jedinak - he's dreadful, but Jedinak has fallen off a cliff this season, he's gone, done, over.

Up front on his own I'd take Davis over Hogan every time - neither of them score goals which is a big problem, but Davis does at least give you something to aim at.

Again. Respect your opinion but i disagree. Whelan is the one thats fallen off a cliff. 3 mistakes leading directly to goals. Jedinak was poor at CB.. but thats not his position. If he has legs around him.. which he does.. he will do his job no problems.

Hogan played upfront on his own for Brentford and scored plenty for them. Was all about giving him the supply. Davis is not a goal scorer.. wont ever work as a lone striker. Needs 442 or 433 formation.

Bruce is a utter idiot he should have jedi Jack and Connor what the fck has Jack done to be dropped I'm done with this Bruce lark he can go now totally outta his depth.

what has he done exactly? Onomah has four goals and an assist or two. Grealish waddles on the ball.. and has provided nothing. Looks pretty doing it.. no real impact. Bit like a Ferrari without an engine. I think off the bench he is better coming on against tiring defenders. Although i agree about the first part.

Personally, I think all three are better than the players that are playing instead of them today.

Whelan better than any of the three in midfield? no way. I can accept an argument for the other two even though i disagree.  Taylor is marginally better than Hutton. Both cant defend and offer sweet f all in attack. Davis over Hogan.. Not yet..

  15. Whelan Taylor and Davis are sick. Blessing in disguise imo.

A midfield trio of Hourihane Jedinak and Onomah is what ive wanted for a while. Grealish doesnt work hard enough and 90% of the time he plays.. we lose. Passenger. Overrated passenger. Off the bench is his best position for impact.

Bit worried about the defence but i think that team is good enough to get a point. I hope one or two of RHM Doyle Hayes and Ohare get a run out.

This is kind of where I'm coming from.

I don't mean to pick on @KSV as I've seen other people say it. And maybe KSV and others have seen a lot of youth games and know what O'Hare can do.

Personally I think Onomah has more potential. That's due to him actually putting in SOME very good performances for us. Some of his performances have been absolute dog shit too, but it would suggest to me that if he coudl add consistency to his game, he'd be a pretty good player.

All I've seen from O'Hare is a couple of sub appearances and a cup game where he did look good in very small flashes.

Now I'm happy to admit that I haven't seen O'Hare play very much at all, so if he DOES have more potential, I can understand that point of view and I'm assuming it will become apparent when he gets more game time for us.

I'm just surprised so many people have seen enough of him to come to this conclusion.

Pick away my friend. I just dont see what the fuss is about Onomah. He scored a couple of deflected shots.. got 1 assist? To be fair to him i dont think hes being played in his correct position. I see him more of a box to box. He is definately not an attacking midfielder.

O'Hare is raw.. but he hasnt gone on loan or been given games. I think not sending him out on loan this season was a huge mistake. Hes far too good for the under 23s. I have seen him 5-6 times for the youth when its on youtube. Saw him at the Hong Kong tournament and few first team league cup games. His energy is just amazing. He does not stop running. Hes quicker than Onomah and i think he would do alot more if he had just as many games. But thats football isnt it.. all opinions.

Just because hes played for England youth more than O'Hare doesnt mean shit.. hes a bit younger.. but also the bigger clubs tend to get picked regardless of talent. If your a Man Utd kid.. hey your straight in.

But they pass and move and have ball control, they defend from the front, by not giving the ball away cheaply.....they are difficult to close down, because the move to receive a pass.

We conversely are static and lose the ball too easily from offensive positions, we run oit of ideas and get caught on the ball because there are no options.

If we had intelligent forwards the confidence to pass would be greater and more forthcoming.

    its catch 22

ps we have looked laboured even more than normal , lately both mentally and physically.

Thats my point. Thats Hogans strength. His movement and runs. Whenever he has played.. we havent had the creative ones there with him. O'Hare linked well with him when they played.. Grealish hasnt yet.. Not sure how many times he played with Snoddy either. Think he deserves a run
