Cool. Agreed.
No, I mean he's been very well behaved and it's not caused as much damage as it could have
'Getaway' from spuds or to spuds? If you mean it clears the way for Benteke to leave, I suggest a bid is required first. Then it will be far from 'clean'.Just catching up on this. So he arrived and he's training with the first team. So he's continued to act quite well in all this, as has the club. Aside from the transfer request which some see as disrespectful, this is about as clean a getaway saga as you could want for your club
Does anyone consider the possibility this could end up like Barry's departure? All set for team A, bids don't match his value, stays for another year playing well, moves to team B instead. Our current advantage being that unlike GB, CB will have a full 2 years on left his contact next year so he won't be leaving for 33% less than his current value to us.

Hi , is this the Christian Benteke thread?
Better?

I think it's funny that Spurs still haven't actually made a bid for him. I wonder if they actually will.
I expect they will be looking for crumbs of BS generated by his return to training.
-
Well if I were a Villa player being a Villa fan with it (such as Gabby) I'd find it hard to act as though nothing happened.
He'll have seen it before a few times and know there's a chance he could be 'working with' Benteke for the next year. I can't recall any obvious issues Gabby had with Barry when Barry's move to Liverplop was 'nailed on'.Plus, when I look at Gabby's face, I'm not entirely convinced he'll be aware of the situation.
I don't think so
I was hoping this gif would turn up!
To this day, it is believed Gabby still doesn't know who tapped him on his shoulders. Despite viewing the gif several times.

Agreed, if he didn't/doesn't show up, it will be headlines.Pretty sure we would know if he hadn't showed by now as it would be slapped all over the media.
The fact that there doesn't appear to be this silly mind game being played is round one to us in the silly mind games being played ;)
I wouldn't get complacent though, the hacks will be busy generating another angle -
BENTEKE OUT IN THE COLD.
In 30C heat, Christian Benteke was made to train on his own, far away from the players he has demanded to leave.
*Insert only photo of 300 taken which shows CB at BMH without any other players in the background*

Do you think the players will not talk to Benteke? or that they will be upset with them?. I can maybe see lambert not being too happy with him but that is about it. they will just get on with it.
The way I see it too.
I'm sure some of his closer colleagues will be having a chat and possibly even a friendly dig with CB in the changing room, whilst some of the shyer players listen in, but once they are out training they'll but getting a sweat on without thinking about much else. Fortunately PL will have had plenty of time to think over exactly how he wants to deal with the situation so there shouldn't be a danger of confrontation caused by knee-jerk behaviour.
-
He didn't sign Ireland. MON wanted him and the agreement was done but we couldn't back out of the deal once MON left.
Stephen Ireland.Lerner does not sign players...
Before this moves to an off topic feedback style loop, does anyone KNOW* the contractual obligations, if any, applicable to the final deal which was arranged under MON but completed without MON?
* not - think they know, recon, 'have it on good authority' or 'apparently...'
-
Congrats!

Dude, quit with the gangster signs! You could at least have given a good old fashioned english middle finger
Is it gangster? Looks more like cramp.

Oh and I piss myself off because I can visibly see my chances with a girl going down the drain as I open my mouth more and more
What are you saying to her?!
-
Yep I've thought the same since the news broke, but come on we all know how this ends. I'd love to be wrong.
He has not gone and Spuds have not bid!!!!!!!End of the day he is gone, more annoying than that is, he is going to spurs, which is the cherry on top of the shit cake we've had to eat for the past 3 yrs. We will probably get a decent wedge but it won't be what we deserve, he'll score against us, they'll finish well above us and he'll be proved right. The media will lap it up and it will all be about spurs and AVB who made him, and his time at villa will be a distant memory. I know this how? Because I'm a villa fan and this is the premier league, we've seen it happen countless times for over two decades.
Lambert will spend the money well, but I'd be very surprised if he found another benteke.
Jesus, some people ought to get a job with the red tops.
Three words why we don't KNOW how this ends. Barry to Liverpool.

Ms. spud appears to be off the scale. Even her own.
-
If Luna is to be our next 'cult' or 'fans favourite', I really hope he's a good player as well.
-
If the latest 'ITK' quotes are true about spuds not valuing CB more than £18m, I suggest they move for another player who is worth £18m. No point in looking at a house for £300k if you can only get a mortgage for £200k.

Please stop with the massive multi-quotes!!!
That's what Levy said.

I agree. People are speaking with hindsight. This time last year, plenty of people were saying £7m was a gamble for a very raw player.
Why not? Us spending £7m on Benteke 11 months ago is arguably a bigger gamble than a top club spending £25m on him now.
not a great comparison
Us buying Benteke for starters. £7m is a lot of money to spend on a young, completely unproven striker from Belgium.
you have an example of one?
Not necessarily.no big club will pay big money go for a guy with 1 year experience. Even Rooney had 2 and Euro 2004 before United bought him
-
I disagree. I think he'll be great for them. Defoe is on the ay out Benteke is on the way up. He'll be theirm main striker for a few year, or atleast until a biger club comes along and taps him up again.
Beat me to it, It's not a given he'll be a success at Spurs. PL made him the focus of the side, we sometimes took a direct route, Will Spurs adopt that, or will they play tippy tappy stuff. When he was with us he was the main focus, players went all out to find him with the ball, how many times did he have it and shoot instead of playing another player in, do you believe defoe, bale and the like are going to put up with this, they are also top players and will not see him as above them, this could actually damage Spuds more than it improves them, then again it could work, time will tell, all I know is he will have a lot to live up too with the price tag and it may just be too much for him at his age and stage of development, in my opinion a hell of a gamble by Spuds.
Let's say Villa follow the 'just get it done' advice and sell for £20m; I think the chances are:
5% - he doesn't settle well and £20m was too high.
15% - he plays fairly well (15 goals/season?) and £20m was about right.
80% - he continues with, or even improves, his form and £20m was a steal.
That's why I hope Villa resist the calls to 'get it done asap' and hold out for £25m, ideally plus add-ons.
If Benteke does leave this summer for spuds, I suspect it will be for 'a fee believed to be in the region of £22m'. This will leave Villa fans rounding up to £25m+ (claiming 'there will be add-ons') and spuds fans claiming it was really less than £20m. What joy that will bring to VT! *roll eyes*
-
The papers really are jacking off over this 20 mill figure
I will be dissapointed if he goes for that price
Absolute steal
Me too.
There does seem to be an increasing amount of 'just get it done' people on VT. I wonder if they realise haste is likely to equal less money?
-
The way he celebrated goals.. especially ones he didn't score.. showed he cared. Season finished and he was tapped up. I hope Real do it to Bale now.
Agree. I enjoy watching the reaction of players when goals are scored by team mates and CB looked like he cared about every one.

Something is only worth what people are prepared to play. There are plenty of clubs willing to pay bentekke 70kpw - sadly we aint one of them
Dear Mr. New Ferrari salesman,
I can afford to run one of your cars, even at 12mpg, but I can only pay you £10k for a new one. That's okay, right?
Yours,
Mr. I-think-Ferraris-are-great-but-don't-think-they-are-worth-paying-for-Levy.

Totally bored of this whole "saga" now.
If an acceptable offer comes in, we should accept it and kick the tosser and his word removed of an agent out of the door, let the pair of fuckwits be someone else's problem.
The club have already officially confirmed they intend to do that.
-
Nope. I expect his agent will be busy on the phones tomorrow am. (Outgoing calls as opposed to incoming).
"I have player, very good, *crosses fingers* very cheap. You want to buy?"

Oh I expect spuds still to bid alright. I seem to remember liverplop bidding for Barry, more than once, but he didn't end up there!
