  1. Brilliant, i really thought a release clause was inevitably in the contract somewhere. Masterstroke again AVFC :) :)

If agents are trawling these forums....our masterstrokes ain't going to last long. can't we just keep schtum on some things as sensitive as this.

Not sure if serious? Firstly, the 'no sell-on clause' news is out, beyond fan forums. Secondly I can't see agents picking up advice from such posts - "Oh, that's a good idea, I'll ask for one of those sell-on clause things".

  2. If Benteke has a similar season like last year, his price will be over 40 mill, I guarantee it. There is no chance they will settle for 30 million at that point. Problem is if he moves before WC, as his price will be even higher after that tournament is done :)

Villa can set his value as high as they want, but will the bids match it? Is there a possibility of CB being with us for two more years because of this?

How the WC affects his value will be interesting -

    1) Belgium don't get out of the group and CB misses a couple of 'sitters' = his value goes down;

    2) CB scores one or two goals in the group games = his value remains or increases slightly;

    3) CB scores 4+ goals taking his country to the later rounds = his value increases significantly.

I think the most likely is 2, followed by 3 and 1.

Whether CB is with Villa during the WC will be down to whether a CL club takes a massive punt on him prior. Either way the great news for Villa is he ain't going cheap!

  3. If that's true then that really is a great bit of business by Lambert/ Faulkner/ Lerner.

If Benteke has another good season, then a storming World Cup, we could be looking at a huge fee. Especially if there turns out to be a bidding war between a few of the big clubs.

If Benteke has another good season and excels in the World Cup i would hope we would be in a better position to keep him

There are so many scenarios possible, including second season syndrome, but a couple based on CB performing well are:

CB scores 20+ league goals but a continued leaky defence stops us at mid-table - CB wants to move but what value do Villa set? He might have to stay at Villa if no club bids his value (£30m??). We've seen it this summer, it could happen next summer.

CB's goals contribute to a sixth place finish (can't see any higher this year). Will CB still want to stay? I don't think he will. Then with 3 years left on his contract we are back to seeing if any club meets his value to us.

I'd love CB to want to stay with us longer but which is more likely of these two situations? -

Villa finish in the top 5 and CB turns down a move after Villa accept a large bid

    or

CB has an average season and doesn't get any offers that match his current contract?

  4. I wonder for example if you grew up in birmingham, how is the whole thing divided with birmingham city and aston villa fans?

Traditionally there is a North-South divide with Villa in North Birmingham and Blues in South Birmingham.

But because we are the bigger club, we have a lot of fans in South Brum but they don't have many fans in North Brum.

And how much bigger fansbase does one have over the other?

Well on FIFA we have 82,989 fans and they have 22,706 fans so maybe 3 times bigger?

    Closer to four times!

  5. Though I wouldn't believe the Daily Mail if they told me the sky was blue I don't think there would be a release clause either.

Exactly this ^. I don't think it's RL, PF or PL's style to promise a future release guarantee when they have no clue what his future value will be. If CB bags 30+ league and cup goals and has a great WC, he'll be worth £40m+ so why restrict ourselves to say £25m? It must have been a very persuasive meeting to get CB and his agent onside for a potential 4 years without a release clause. I expect £55k/week helped but when other suitors would offer similar or more, it's great work by the club.

EDIT: I can't help but think I've just jinxed us where CB bags barely a dozen. :-(

  6. Brilliant spin on Season Ticket sales + Benteke

Does anyone think Benteke will have an influence on ST sales?

Some people need a 'hook' to make their final decision. Watching Benteke at Villa Park is as good a hook as any.

  7. "Lambert is also without Nicklas Helenius (knee)" - Daily Mail

Didn't Helenius' agent say that it was his back?

Is this a classic case of Daily Fail makes it up?

I expect they throw a dart at the outline of a body and report on where it hit.

Really? I've always thought those who write for that paper didn't know their arse from their elbow. :)

They don't. The dart hit the head.

  8. Well if Hutton goes like they say he is and Bent goes early this week thats nearly 100k off the wage bill and some fee for Bent (5m probably)

All thats left is to ship Bannan, Ireland, Given and Zog.

I can see Bannan going to a championship club as well as Given. I don't think we'll shift Ireland & Zog this window.

However if all goes to plan Bannan,Given,Bent & Hutton gone would free up 170k wages? Meaning we could probably bring in an AM and another defender.

Is Zog actually in the bomb squad or simply part of the first team squad, albeit not usually in the starting 11?

  9. "Lambert is also without Nicklas Helenius (knee)" - Daily Mail

Didn't Helenius' agent say that it was his back?

Is this a classic case of Daily Fail makes it up?

I expect they throw a dart at the outline of a body and report on where it hit.

  10. I haven't had a shave for about 10 days.

    And I'm a hairy bastard.

Which means for my work football match today I'm sporting a pretty thick beard of Luna proportions (I wish!), and playing in defence.

So I shall dedicate my performance to Antonio, and use the quality of my performance as a direct prediction to how well Luna will do for us.

    Viva la Beard

I scored an own goal and gave away a penalty and we lost 3-2.

    Awkward.

It looks like you'll have to settle for being part of 'an honest bunch'.

  11. I assume we still have to pay Blunderland all the add ons even though some might not be activated?

No. I believe the add-ons were linked to the success of our club and therefore the only add-on paid was for staying up after we'd signed him in the January. I think the total transfer cost we'll have paid for Bent will be around £19m; certainly not the £24m that the media always quote (I think we'd have had to qualify for the CL to get near that).

  12. Where the hell was the keeper on Westy's free kick?  Awful positioning.

He thought that side was protected by his wall. Next time he'll ask for more than TWO men!

  13. I have a question. Now that Benteke is staying, will he miss the Arsenal game because of the Chelsea red card? Actually now that I think about it, he should be ok cause it was two yellows.

Correct - served 1 match ban against wigwam

  14. Just had a £20 bet with a very bitter Baggies friend...."Benteke won't score 14 (yes...14) goals in all competitions next season" ......what a puddin!!! If I could do Gif's on my phone it would be the laughing Thinderbirds puppet!!!

Funnily enough I had a bet tonight with my blue nose brother that Benteke would score more than 9 Premier League goals next season....

Assuming he doesn't break something early on in the season, I think you're safe. I wouldn't dare to suggest that CB is guaranteed to score 16+ leagues goals, but 9 or less?! There's a chance you'll have won by New Year!

  15.

Did he just say the stream is working? Cos it's still the same error for me.

    It's working here.

I'm still getting the same error too!

No video for me. Still Jack said he's been told 'it's fixed so we'll just have to go with that'.

  16. Someone posted 'Weimann's broken his leg according to people on twitter', Dan then replied 'I doubt it, I've just seen him walking down the tunnel, he appeared to be holding his ribs'.

    BBQ or Chinese?

  17. So funny one of the posts on spuds forum talks about there being so many desperate deluded comments on this thread it was painful to read. looking at it now makes for very painfull reading!!!

Hate the London press so much though. His handing in a transfer request and speculation of a move to spuds or chelski is big headline news. Signing a new contract a secondary throw away story. T0ssers

The London press do seem to have played it down a lot - I wonder why?

Before I get too defensive the BBC biggest national news and sport channel, Radio 5, did have Benteke's new contract as their main football news this morning (ahead of citeh's £22m signing).

  18. I'm normally a defender of AVTV and Jack but today has been truley embarrassing for a Premier League club.

I normally find Jack humorous but he is no radio commentator.

At one point he said in a single sentence,

El Ahmadi doing well there, Wycombe charging forward, Guzan plays it long.

    Clear as mud!

You must have missed when Jack told us they are playing with 3 footballs today.

  19. Jack celebrates the HT whistle like a last minute winner, he nearly burst my eardrums there.

Quickly followed by the conference call ending. I hope he remembers to dial back in after his pie.

  20. Jack's promised to keep me 'in the loop' and guaranteed me highlights. I feel special but they should drop the last two letters from AVTV.

Listening to Captain Jack apologizing for 90 minutes

    Fiver well spent :D

You should have a ST instead! :P
