  1. Here we go then the race is on....

30 pages to the magical 1000

will it be before or after the Albion game?

regardless of the results in the next three games and regardless of whether we stay up or go down....

his position is untenable, he has lost virtually all of the fans and he is most definitely a dead man walking.....its just a matter of time

  2. When will some people on here come out of denial?

Look at his cv, it is not very good....he is not going to change....as I have said before he is not suddenly going to turn into Pep Guardiola

He is a poor manager?...one of, if not the worst in Villas history

and that includes a certain BIlly McNeill

If you're referring to Me then I'll ask you to not insinuate that I'm in denial.

Just because some people don't want to cry onto their keyboards about how much they hate a man that will, more than likely, be here next season, doesn't mean they're in denial. It just means they have better things to worry about.

Regarding his CV, let me guess... you must be referring to the fact that he 'Finished 3rd in a 2-horse race in Scotland' or 'got relegated 2 times in 3 seasons' etc etc etc... those classics?

Yes those classics...look deeply into them and you'll realise exactly how good that is.

    This bloke is not good.

Ok accept rubbish and do nothing.

Every time there's something you don't like just give it the old British stiff upper lip and carry on regardless. Accept second best and guess what? You'll get second best and after a time you'll get used to it.

  3. I reckon we could make a 1000 pages on this topic before the season is over and all dedicated to the worst manager in our history.

447 pages in this thread....the overwhelming majority are against the manager and are saying the same thing.....dull football, negative tactics etc etc

but....with Lerner and Faulkener at the helm this will go well beyond a 1000 pages.

He does not sack managers, he does not listen to fans.

You can forget the Holte Pub, the banners on the Holte and North Stand, the training ground, parading the European Cup winners, the free coaches, the flags, the scarves and anything else he has tried.

Lerners track record with managers is dire, his track record in sport is dire. He just does not understand

Having seen your post i have re-evaluted the situation and think this thread could get to 5000 pages!!

As much as i want rid of him i am beginning to think he is still going to be in charge next season :(

  4. Lerner and Faulkner took an almighty, desperate gamble and it has failed. Trouble is now I think they are trying to play a poker face and pretend everything will be OK. Havent heard much from Faulkner recently have we?

My guess is that we will scrape enough to survive, McLeish will plead mitigating factors for such poor football, the board will back him with a couple of 7-10 million signings to try and appease the fans and another god awful season ensues.

But if things are still crap next Christmas, McLeish will be gone.

all i can say to that is, roll on Christmas then

  5. People are getting a ''squeaky bum'', including me, because the way we play, i cannot see us winning another game!!!

I can see us getting 3 draws though

Can you see Bolton picking up ten points?

I couldnt see Wigan getting 3 wins out of the last 4 games or 16 points out of the last 10.

I hope you are right though....i just cant help but worry!!!

  6. Pos P GD Pts Last 10 games

    15 Aston Villa 32 -9 - 35 - DDLLWDDLD = 8 points

    16 QPR 33 -19 - 31 - WLWLWLDLLL = 10 points

    17 Wigan 33 -26 - 31 - WLWWDDLDWD = 16 points

    18 Bolton 32 -29 - 29 - LWWDDLDWDL = 13 points

    19 Blackburn 33 -25 - 28 - LLLLWWDLWL = 10 points

    20 Wolves 33 -39 - 22 - LLLLLLDLWL = 4 points

Anyone who thinks we are safe, then think again.

The Bolton game is massive.....a MUST win.

  7. Its not excuses though. Its quoting facts.

O'Neill left the club in an awful mess financially and indeed squad wise.

AM has had to deal with our chairman's cutbacks as well as trying to replace Downing, Young, Luke Young, Friedal, on a limited budget while also having to rely on our youth to make up the numbers in our squad.

    Not exactly ideal is it.

Excuses are exactly what you are putting forward.

I really don't need to hear yet again what O'Neill left behind, I'm fully aware of it thanks.

What he inherited wasn't ideal but it is no worse than O'Neill inherited at Sunderland and look at the positive impact he made. McLeish has failed, nobody expected him to be challenging for 4th place but our performance this season has been terrible.

If you want to talk about facts.

Worst home form in 26 years.

    7 league wins all season.

There are two big fat facts for you.

You mention those facts and i accept them. Yes they aren't good and there's no getting away from that but those statistics are as a result of what has gone on before AM's tenure than actually as a direct result.

so if this season is all down to what has gone on before, that includes the 7 wins we've had as well then eh?

    read this for some facts

  8. I wonder if those who still seem to defend or accept Mcleish would have said achieving our lowest prem points total ever was acceptable at the start of the season?

If you'll accept a manager who's achieved a level of shit rarely seen at this club then you'll accept anything. The Lerner PR blitz for the first few years was successful.

    Exactly.

I posted this in the match thread after the Stoke game

that was hard to watch....lots of endeavour but very little quality....and as for the Villa...

    turgid dross.

We are Aston Villa, not Blackburn, not Bolton, not Wigan, not Wolves, not etc etc....we are Aston Villa.

    Demand and expect more

Put up with the rubbish or demand and expect more

  9. Remember that pathetic letter sent out begging to be liked?

I am aware that the myth about me being defensively-minded has concerned some Villa fans who rightly relish seeing their team playing fluent, attacking football. However, please be assured that I share your desire to see Villa play dynamic, exciting football which entertains whilst, of course, securing the results we all want.

    WRONG.

I am aware that the myth about me being defensively-minded has concerned some Villa fans who rightly relish seeing their team playing fluent, attacking football. WRONG.

Let’s work together to ensure that 2012 becomes a year full of wonderful memories for Aston Villa and for you, Villa fans

    Perhaps when you leave.

Remember when Paul Falkner told us the club's hopes under McLeish?

I think Europe sits there as a goal and this year that would be our goal – that’s what we want to try to achieve. It’s not easy because there’s other clubs trying to do the same, but we want to do that. I believe it’s do-able this year.

FAIL. MEGA FAIL - NO WHERE NEAR IT.

The Premier League is a very, very tough league, but Villa is a great club and we should be up there challenging at the top of the league and we should be there pushing for Europe.

    CORRECT

I really do think, if we can put a good run together, we’ve got a good squad. I think this year is one where we want to be there pushing to qualify for Europe.

MEGA FAIL. Unless a good run is winning one game in a row, seven times dotted around the season.

Remember on being appointed, the following thing was said, under the heading on the OS of 'McLeish vows to achieve success with positive approach'?

"The players here, there is definitely scope for a fast, attacking team."

    OOPS. FAIL.

"I know that some of our fans have voiced concerns and I can understand why. It will be up to me to convince you that I am the right man to drive the club forward and I intend to give absolutely everything to prove that I can be a success."

    Well you haven't done that.

Or Paul Falkner on the appointment:

Alex is someone with whom we will work close and work well together.

I would say the poisition, lack of wins, awful football and lack of fans in the stadium we are in shows it is not working well.

With our strong squad combining the necessary virtues of experience and the exciting potential of our young players, our objective is to compete as strongly as we possibly can.

    That certainly hasn't happened.

Alex's vast experience and proven abilities demonstrate clearly that he is a strong leader and an ambitious man and we are looking forward very much to the exciting new season about to start."

I would say defending 1-0 leads for 80 minutes is not ambitious. Or was the beginning of the season an exciting start. It was a 0-0, if I remember correctly.

Remember when Roberto Martinez turned the club down? We had a lovely statement saying

We remain focused and are working hard to secure the best candidate for Aston Villa who will complement the Club's commitment to be true to our heritage, competitiveness and passionate fan base

Well McLeish certainly didn't, doesn't and NEVER WILL complement the fan base. And he certainly hasn't brought competitiveness to the club either - in fact, seeing how many games we've gone out to play and defend the 0-0 - he's been the very opposite.

So all in all, I still don't know why he was appointed and more importantly, why the **** he's still here.

Quality post. Shows exactly what we are dealing with.

We should be regularly reminded about these statements.
