The more controversial point in Marx (which is what I believe you're getting at) is his concept of the 'withering away of the state'. Which I do agree is a highly stupid and potentially dangerous concept and borrows huge theoretical support from Hegel's notions of consciousness and spirit. I did always find Marx's work on 'class consciousness' to be pretty damn stupid.

"Right here waiting" was a tune, though.

Andy Burnham wasn't invited either. Way to go jezza

    I'm mean come on.

If this is true, it's the sort of political incompetence I expect to see in Yes Minister or The Thick of It. How can someone get to be the leader of a major party, but have so little awareness of how to run a campaign and control his own public image.

You can say but Jezza does things his way. But that"s just the equivalent of trying to send everyone a fax, when the rest of the world uses email.

Interesting. Was it the north and south that voted out?

Think it was largely south, bit they have much bigger population centres. My area has a large farming and forestry industry and they weren't stupid enough to vote away the EU grants that give them so much money.

They hardly did anything round by me either.

But Wales does seem to be having a massive shift to the right. They voted largely for Brexit when it's really not in their best interests.

It's telling that Welsh towns have come off the worst from the shift to the right after the Falklands. So they have a lot to be angry about.

The angry voice seems to follow the populist agenda.

I live Mid Wales we votes a big majority remain and I think this election we've one Labour councillors. (Although 0 Tories)

I think Corbyn is the only reason Labour are doing as well as they are. He's very popular with younger voters. Without him Labour would be finished.

    1. You don't think another Labour candidate could also appeal to young voters?

    2. Young voters don't vote in enough numbers to win elections, old people do.

    3. "As well as they are" Are you John McDonnell?

  6. I know it would never happen, but love it if Corbyn stepped down due to poor results and Labour put it a new leader unopposed before the general election.

For absolutely no other reason but to see the look of Theresa May's face, that she might have to do some proper campaigning.

It's all relative though.  As per the figures I quoted, it's a little bit above average for most people in their late 30's/40's.  It might be well paid, but anybody earning that with a family to support certainly wouldn't consider themselves "rich".  I supported a family of 4 on that, and after the all the bills was lucky if I had anything at all left over each month.

That's because they cut your tax family credits.

But this is a real issue in British politics, the MP's predominately come from elite education and a very small section of society.

I agree is a real problem in both politics and the media, and I blame the system of unpaid internships. For most people to get a job in either of these areas you'd need to work a couple of years experience, no pay. It's a system to weed out the poor people who couldn't realistically do that and live. So all the posts are filled by rich kids living off their families.

  9. 8 councillors in my local council are getting straight back in uncontested. My problem with local government is I actually know a lot of the candidates personally and they're all dicks. My local Plaid councillor for example, was only at my work the other day and was talking with someone about how great he thought Marie Le Pen was, and how she had the right ideas.

I saw that not long ago. Yes, it was turd, but so turd, it was like an airplane/ train collision that you couldn't look away. Steve Guttenberg should never have been trusted in another film after that.

If I recall, it's the naked YMCA shower scene which really helped me look away.

  11. So we'll spend billions as a country trying to get trade deals with countries like China and India, but we'll be stubborn over £58bn with our largest trading partner and walk away from a trade deal for the sake of it? Like we wouldn't be paying that shortfall back tenfold in import/export tariffs.

    Yeah, right.

I choose to think he will change this mindset over the Summer, it makes me feel better and I'm SO desperate for us to not need to change Manager again....but I can't help wondering if I'm fooling myself.

(We ended with 6 players who got us relegated BTW, which I found disturbing)

He has set the team up exactly as I expected him too before he came, as it's what he's done every where he's managed. He won't change this mindset over the summer because he hasn't changed it over his managerial career.
