  1. Soooooo.

Emi shushes the Lille fans: 'it's a disgrace', 'terrible attitude', 'arrogant', 'get him an escort for his safety', 'shows massive lack of respect'.

Trent Alexander Arnold shushes Fulham fans: [crickets].

Could clearing in the woods in a goal but he couldn't run, couldn't dribble , couldn't pass, couldn't cross, and was weak as anything. I'm sorry, just a dreadful, dreadful footballer.

95% of watching this guy was him trying to run his man and dispossessed.  I remember one game, clear as day against Southampton when he had about 5-10 yards on JWP when in about 3 strides he was caught up and absolutely bodied by JWP clearly and dispossessed.

I mean, without Trez we were down. He's earned this club more money and possibly change it's direction more than anyone in it's entire history.

..but man he was bad at football.

Wow did you just use 'clearing in the woods' as a verb? I didn't know you could do that. That's awesome.

Following on from this - Emi was booked 5 times in the first 10 PL matches immediately after the World Cup for time-wasting.  Yet he was not taking longer than he had been before the World Cup (on average) and one article I've seen (but now lost the link to) suggested that in the same time period he was around the 7th slowest from restarts - in other words there were something like 65 times where keepers took longer (on average) restarting play than Emi did and yet collectively they ended up with something like 4 or 5 bookings between them.

Also, in other words Refs are slaves to their biases (ie not very good).

  4. If we can overcome our fatigue we should be ok, but this is where our squad depth compared to other top teams lets us down. Some of our players were walking around against Lille. They looked shattered, and that was before another game and extra time.

I expect Tim and Lenglet will start. Possibly Jhon, definitely Bailey, and we'll see Kellyman at some point I reckon.

Gotta dig deep here, come on boys!!

Do i stick around at Stans propping up this load of shite for god knows how long or do I eff off to the bundesliga and a top German team as soon as I know they're serious .....but....as long as I intimate that I am sacrificing myself to save the club, the proles will lap it up !

    Difficult one, that 🤣

If only he'd known they were going to be building the biggest stadium in the world off the Bordesley Middleway, maybe he'd have stuck around. 500,000 all seater, mate. Host the superbowl, mate. Retire the shirt mate, mate.

I think you played very well over the 2 legs and probably deserved better.....but football or any other sport, digs deeper than just talent, as these games, bore witness too.

We can both call on reasons why our teams, did not perform as well as they can.....and we can both call on elements of luck, that remain a feature of football games.

We as Villa supporters can bear witness on many occasions of unfair referees or over zealous opponents who render our players lightweight....and we have to ride with it, and improve. Last night, we stayed with it, when we wasn't at our best....that was the most redeeming factor for me.

You may not approve of Emi Martinez, for numerous reasons, but what he does, is passive, and more psychological....football is also played in the head, and he knows that, more than most......your players, should have scored, and you would have gone through. They should have rose above Emi's foolery, because that's all it was. It wasn't intimidating or threatening, (folk using those words are wrong) it might be off putting, but that's not illegal......we have to find context here.

This was a tight fought game, and both teams can claim mitigation of sorts.....but in the cold light of day, i hope mutual respect prevails, between our clubs and supporters.....I for one rate Lille, as a very good side, and your manager too.

As a result of these games, I am enlightened, but what a good side, Lille is, and how competitive they are......I hope the feeling is mutual.

Yeah, Lille are a really well organised team. I was mega impressed by their press, which they did without exposing themselves defensively. We had no outball for 80% of the game. Controlled possession really well, distributed well. I don't actually know how we got through the tie tbf. No obvious weaknesses. We'll never know how much the previous game took out of us in terms of mobility, but mentally we looked fried. I still don't know why our passing was so wayward. It's totally not like us. That said, they pressured us throughout, and our defence couldn't pick out any of our midfield without at least 1 Lille player closing down and forcing an error. They are a really good team.

Not a single shot of the away section during the match broadcast. Not. One.

    How does that even happen?

There was a brief shot of Sawiris, Elmo, Heck and a few others in their group I didn't recognize,  but not a single shot of traveling supporters.

Yeah that was weird. I'm assuming TNT were given the feed by French broadcasters at the stadium?
