That is also a good point. Most of these deals are undisclosed so articles get written with journalists speculating on £££'s. Then that becomes gospel as people google that article and others use the same figure in their commentary.

However Fulham did make a big splash about it being their record £ deal, whereas Villa just slipped in our new sponsor with no fanfare and almost as an embarrassed side note.

I said earlier - I think that figure is what Cazoo were paying us.  I expect our low key launch was more to do to the reaction of the sponsorship than the amount.  I've seen it reported that this one is more than double what Cazoo were paying.

Maybe being based in London? Apparently it's their highest ever record sponsorship and includes 'stadium presence' whatever that means.

Maybe they are better negotiators or have better links to betting companies lol.

Could be these figures are wrong.....

  3. We will always be reliant on players!  There will always be some that seem more important to the team than others - and a regular goal scorer is always going to be one of those....  I am pretty sure Ollie will be signing a new contract - but we'll see!

Would any consider selling? He's 28/29 (can't be bothered to check which) probably at his peak in terms of value and will only reduce. Only 2 years left on a contract, Should we be looking to cash in and reinvest in the squad.

He's 27 - 28 in December.  Who are we replacing him with if we do sell?

Does anyone know if these plans have been submitted on the BCC planning portal yet?

I can't see them as an amendment to the original plans but wondered if they might be a separate application.

I have been checking - I don't think they have yet.  I think they will be separate too - as a small amendment to the Holte plans was submitted as a new application.

Does anyone have the planning application reference for the revised plans?

They haven't been put up on the website yet, so far as I can see.  It normally takes about 7 days or so between plans being registered and put up on the city council's website

So with regards to the Live/Academy feature, we've just decided to update an existing building rather than build a brand new one?  Looks like they were going to offer pretty much the same things anyway.

Yes - and move the club shop to the North Stand, and the sports bar.

Just gone through and I can buy one but that price is mental. They also never made it clear they were gonna open it to non season ticket holders. It's really starting to feel like the club are rinsing fans now. If there was an instalment plan option i'd probably take it.

I thought there was an instalment option!

It does seem strange that this consultation was done with minimal publicity with letters sent to surrounding residents and no news at all on the official AVFC website.

I expect this due to it being a minor change - rather than a full new application.  They may publicise when the application's submitted.

Maybe - but given that the plans/drawings/work are ready to be submitted, I'd suspect this plan was there before Heck arrived - it's possible they've done this in the last seven weeks, but I don't know.

If it is Heck driven and he's made this decision quickly then worked with the design/architecture team in that short a timeframe to produce this, that's quite impressive.

I have a feeling this one is going to be Heck driven - fits with the heritage driven approach he talks about....

I don't think the projects are comparable.

I expect the facilities in the new Stand will be more extensive, especially compared to the Holte End. Also, many people complain that the Trinity Road stand looks like it was thrown together in a hurry, so perhaps the new stand should take more time. Plus, there was no change in ground level, which there significantly is for the new North.

The 2 years probably also includes the significant re-fit of the Trinity...

Unpopular opinion perhaps but a stadium built in installments or rebuilt in different sections and eras is (almost) always going to be a bit of a Frankenstein's stadium. Some areas are not going to be fit for modern purposes and maybe even unsafe, and the service is gonna be lacking or at least difficult to get right.

It's historic, charming and a important part of our identity, but it's also going to hold us back a bit when it comes to maximizing our revenue compared to what a new stadium or a complete rebuild likely would have.

Owners seem fine with that trade off and so am I but the steps where we are now where they increase the price but not the quality of the experience (off the pitch) might sting a bit for some who are caught inbetween. Narrow concourses, poor services, not enough toilets and so on for a lot more money while another part of the stadium gets a spruce up. That's probably only OK as long as we keep winning.

Anyway, will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I don't actually agree with this - a significant part of phase 1 is modernising the Trinity Road Stand - and they do have plans for the Holte - so our existing infrastructure can be upgraded.  The Doug Ellis is the one that is most difficult/unlikely to be fixable - due to the narrowness of the stand....  We will see what if anything they come up with for that!

But that needs the compulsory purchase of houses on holte road/mcgregor close. Its not happening.

Edit: the shadow the stadium would cast over those houses means it won't get through planning unless those houses aren't there.

More likely we could buy some of the grounds of the Aston Hall Estate to further expand the trinity, but suspect there's something in the way of that too.

I don't think it would.  I suspect there is an answer to this!

  14. 18 minutes ago, MrBlack said:

    Absolutely.

The area needs significant gentrification, but not the kind that forcibly, and completely,  displaces those currently living there. Some balance needs to be reached, but who's going to pay for it.

The issue being that the stadium does need more room if it wants to exceed 50k capacity.

Building a taller block of spacious apartments, with a communal outdoor area, in order to move a couple of roads worth of tenants,  might be palatable to some of them. Getting a new home that doesn't cost a fortune to heat, in the same area... will appeal to some.

But ultimately there will always be some for whom it is a family home that they will never voluntarily leave, and I would never support compulsory purchase for something like this.

This is why the rumblings of a move are happening... but I just see the solution as being one where we stop at around 50k, and live with it.

The answer will be extending the Doug Ellis over the road or even closing the road, I expect.....  We will see what is what when they announce the detail of the master plan and phase 2 of the redevelopment.

  15. I think the fact that they're updating the plans and going for an amended application shows that they want to start work sooner rather than later.  If you were going to drop this all together why bother getting permission to change the building?  Just let the planning sit there and not develop.....  Also, is anyone able to get to the consultation this week?

I don't think it will change the development too much. There will just be parking where the proposed Villa Live building would have been. They will still go ahead with 'Villa way' in front of North stand, and this will likely be extended in an L-shape to meet the front of refurbed academy building. Presumably all the admin offices will be pushed to the far end of academy building and the fan zone stuff will be on the near end with a new entrance punched through the side elevation that faces the North stand. A minor benefit is that there will be unobstructed views of the new North Stand without the 3-storey Villa Live building in the way!

The biggest uncertainty is how the North stand could accommodate the new shop and cafe. I presume there will be some big internal changes for that to work. Hope it doesn't squeeze any of the the other areas.

In the letter they said there'd be some elevation changes to the North Stand proposals - so I suspect it might be further extended to accommodate the shop and cafe.  If it wasn't they'd (I think) be able to make the internal changes without any need for planning permission.

  17. So, I don't think this is a big thing....  I expect it might go something like:

Refurbish the current site asap planning is granted - move villa staff into new admin accommodation in the summer to start work on North Stand immediately.  Then look at if Villa Live is still needed.  The proposed refurbishment of the current space sounds like it will do most of what Villa Live would.  I think this is a plan to speed delivery...

This shows commitment and willingness to get on. I doubt it is cost saving.  It will also be interesting to see any plans for the Holte and Doug Ellis.
