  1. It has been an awful season one of the worst in my time as a Villa fan.

There are reasons to be optimistic however. If we can massively improve the defense we will be going places with this side.

Until you see one of the top 6 teams play and realize how far behind them we are.

  2.                    Guzan

    Lowton  Vlaar  Dragovic Santon

                  Sylla  Westwood

    Weimann  De Bruyne  Gabby

                      Benteke

Just buy those 3 players (Dragovic, Santon and De Bruyne) and we're set.  We'd have good back-ups at all positions. If Bent is sold, might need an extra forward.

  3. Such an easy player to love. Came through the ranks, works his balls off, plays with a smile and scores vital goals. I hope he stays with us for a long, long time.

Pretty much why he is my favorite player after Guzan.

  4. Seeing the types of players PL has brought in, I'm sure he's got a well assembled list of prospects on his mind and the club is doing its due diligence.

PL certainly does not seem to be the type that is reading the morning papers to see who might be available. He comes across more sophisticated than that.

  5. I see more quantity than [top notch] quality coming out of our Academy at the moment. Certainly being labelled England's #1 academy will be a great selling point and should help us attract even better talent from across England with the new regulations.

  6. He's one of them Blockers from Knightmare, made flesh. You need the password to get past him, otherwise he'll eat you.

This should be a banner behind the goal at Villa Park.

Got to give Lambert credit for giving Guzan a second shot. I've been a fan of Guzan's since his MLS days, but never expected this level of goalkeeping from him.

  7. The great majority of supporters were enthusiastic about the hire. Unless we are totally off the pace around January/February - think we have little alternative but to stick with him.

  8. and he's contracted until he's 40.
    Nice one McLeish...

The price of getting Given was to offer him a long term contract. He's looked shaky since Euro2012. Only way I see him leaving is if one of the top sides has GK injuries and is desperate for a quick fix.

  9. Where Randy messed-up is by trusting MON with wages and appointing debutant CEOs. We're now digging out of a massive hole that was created as a result. I felt Paul Barber (ex-tottenham) would have been a perfect hire after he left Vancouver Whitecaps. Looks like Brighton signed him and guess what - they have sold record season tickets.

  10. Of the ones that have broken through in the last few years Bannan is the worst, Herd just runs round, Clark is too weak to be a CB, Delf isn't going to make it.

And all of them were starting against Everton!!!

Also agree with Richard about the Peace Cup, add to that the ManU game when the kids looked like Barcelona.

  11. Was going to start a similar thread.

Our youth players are just not good enough. A youth policy only works when the youth are Premier League quality. Sorry but Bodymoor Heath is not La Masia. It's ridiculous that nearly half our squad are academy products. It speaks more about how cheap we have been in the last few years than the quality of our academy. It seems like we're all living on that one amazing 2nd half performance against ManU when the kids looked like world beaters. Other than Gary Cahill our youth system has not recently produced a player that is good enough of to play for a Champions League side.

When it comes to youth Everton, WestHam or even Southampton we are not. We pretty much produce Championship level players like Gary Gardner, Ridgewell, Whittingham, etc. When you have youth in the squad, you tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately I think it has blinded our coaches and management about how weak the squad really is.

  12. Owners play a fairly insignificant role in the NFL as their revenues are divided equally amongst all 32 franchises, there is a salary cap, and a draft for incoming talents from the college ranks. It's basically hit or miss depending on the General Manager (CEO) you hire and in turn the Head Coach they hire.
