Some posters do seem to give great importance to which other posters are perceived as being negative. So long as it doesn't damage the image of the club it really doesn't bother me who's being negative and who isn't.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that with all the talk I didn’t imagine the club using this summer to by these players who aren’t particularly regarded as ‘good’ players, but ones that could ‘do a job’. I’d expected us to buy players for the first team and ‘relegate’ the players whose places they were taking.

Fair does, he does say "with all the talk".

There seems to be a bit of a divide between people who see things this way and those who (like myself) see the desirability in some cases of buying cover and not blocking the progress of one or two jewels we already have.

Others have stated much more vehemently than John that all new signings should be "bigger and better". In some positions and at this moment this may well be true but not, in my humble opinion, up front or at left back at present. Nor perhaps at centre back.

Why be like a poor soul called Viv Nicholson who won the pools, declared she would "spend, spend, spend" and ended up ruining her life? Why be like Real Madrid, desperately splashing the cash, going for the 2 best in the world in every position and papering over the cracks before that empire finally gained a Spanish league title after four years of trying and failing?

That isn't the way Nicholson did things at Tottenham in the early 60s or Shankly, Paisley & Co at Liverpool in the 70s and 80s, or more recently Ferguson and Wenger.

3 - Bill Howell puts it in the Mail

4 - Next day the Mirror reports that Villa are closing in on lining up a shock swoop for the player

and the fact that no one seems to have the faintest idea about what's going on at VP, there may well be something in it.

There were two nuns...

One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM),

and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL).

It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.

SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for

the past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants.

SL: It's logical. He wants to molest us.

SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes

at the most! What can we do?

SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster.

SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute.

So the man decided to follow Sister Logical.

Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is

worried about what has happened to Sister Logical.

Then Sister Logical arrives

SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here!

Tell me what happened!

SL: The only logical thing happened.

The man couldn't follow us both, so he followed me

SM: Yes, yes! But what happened then?

SL: The only logical thing happened. I started to run

as fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could.

SM: And?

SL: The only logical thing happened. He reached me

SM: Oh, dear! What did you do?

SL: The only logical thing to do. I lifted my dress up.

SM: Oh, Sister! What did the man do?

What gets me is all these atheists and agnostics (must admit I'm one too) going around using religious-style language about MON. "I have complete faith in the manager", "Don't you trust MON?", "Keep the Faith". Ridiculous.

As is some of the sexual language used, such as "enjoy the ride" and "I'm just loving it". Well it sounds sexual to me if it doesn't to you. Sexual, depraved and disgusting.

Then there's "I'm really fond of MON" and "When I think back to what it was like a year ago I smile". Sounds a bit...

You dont think Gabby will meet the wall next season? Personally i think he will be wrapped like a cocoon and look like this seasons Davis.

All managers have "their" players and Gabby strikes me as one of MON's boys. I think there are quite a few ways in which Gabby is lacking but he isn't just a sprinter. He seems to have a real killer instinct in front of goal, and he's timing his runs better and better. Which is why I'd like to see cover brought in for Carew and a decent right back too before we go worrying about where the goals are going to come from. I'm convinced that Gabby and/or Luke can deliver. Davis? Mm. That's another problem.

Well I did say about 30 or so pages ago (cant be bothered to search back) that Eidur G would be a brilliant signing for us. he can score goals, has technique, vision, comfortable on the ball and could possibly be a similar player to Merson.

surely we want a striker that scores goals for fun ? not a playmaker type that will chip in with 10 or so

we need a proper, out and out, goalscorer
