It's not a bad window and the incomings are good, but we needed a right back and haven't got one, we needed a better backup goalkeeper who is good with his feet, we haven't got one, and with Buendia and Mings out for the season and letting Coutinho and Archer go our squad depth is no better than last season.

Our net spend this summer after finishing in Europe for the first time in 13 years is just £30m (approximately) at present. That simply isn't enough if we want to challenge for a top 4 place and win a trophy which Unai keeps saying we do.

That’s your opinion, Emery seems to think we have enough cover in those areas with Olsen, Cash, Konsa & Chambers.

Pretty sure Leicester won the league with a smaller net spend than that, it’s not how much you spend, it’s how you spend it.

    Trust Emery & Monchi

  2. Smith Rowe is another over hyped player because he is English, a Southgate darling and playing for a top 4 club.  Steer clear, this guy is on a downward slope with injuries and lack of game time.
JJ has the better attributes and higher ceiling by miles.

My point is I don’t think Luiz is on the levels they will be looking based on what they would have to pay for him.

    But Calvin Phillips is?

The article talks about a 50M deal. There is no way we are going to spend or are ABLE to spend 50M on any player this year for the reasons i've alluded to previously.

Do you know this or speculating?

It's ok dude. We all make mistakes. Just move on, nobody will remember

The bizarre thing is, I never even quoted your post!
So yes, it does appear people make mistakes and should move on!

Well i can't speak for everyone else, but that certainly wasn't the insinuation in my post.

    You've clearly inferred things incorrectly

    Clearly 🙄

Or maybe there is more than your post (which i think your now getting all potato/potato on 😉)

I've seen the posts mate. you posted posts that said Digne had done well but it was against bad opposition.

None of these posts are saying he can ONLY do it against crap opposition. They're just being wary at drawing too many conclusions from a game against sub par teams.

Nothing you posted supports your original comment. But I think you know that really ;)

I disagree, but isn’t that what forums are for?

The insinuation (pretty clearly in my view) is that he has performed well only because it’s sub-standard opposition.

I wrote the previous post, let alone read it.

Where have people said he can only do it against crap teams? I'll wait.

I have already answered this above, so don’t feel the need to do so again

  9. Half the time he doesn’t know what he is going to do

i Think having this “wildcard pick” in the squad may be useful this season.  It’s always 50/50 if it will work, but he does have something different up his sleeve.

Glad he's played well again. Perfectly fair to note it's been against two shite sides, but he couldn't do more than being asked of him right now.

Because he's played well against the worst PL side I've seen since 2016 Aston Villa and League One level Hibs with Lee Johnson as manager, it doesn't mean Digne is a great PL player all of a sudden.

The first thing Emery did was replace him in the XI. His limitations are known and often seen. It won't be every game he's invited to nothing but ping crosses in - clearly he's good at that.

Understandably, Digne wants to play with the World Cup coming up and he's not going to a huge amount here if Moreno is fit.

No chance Emery agrees to a worse left back coming in for financial reasons. Especially when it's not going to be a sale. If it was a solid fee of £15m or whatever, there's an argument to make. Not a loan we won't benefit much from at all.

    Take your pick 👍

Who's beating him up for exploiting the space?

Did you read the previous posts or just mine?  Apparently he can only do it against crap teams like Everton and Hibs “where he has loads of space”

  12. My worry last night was his petulance, he left a bit on every player he challenged.  Scottish Football will take that, play the Spaniards or Italians and they will be rolling around as if they have been poleaxed.

I know he is a kid, but needs to get smart and quick if he wants to play as the back up to Ollie.

Of those three, AWB is the best shout and better than Cash certainly defensively, maybe not going forward, but that's probably the sort of right back we want. However, I don't think Man Utd would sell him as he's started both of their opening league games and seems first choice. We'd probably be more likely to sign Dalot.

My comment was aimed more at the attacking suggestions. I just think given we are about to allegedly make around £40m from selling Academy players that we should be able to aim higher in the attacking positions than Iheanacho and Awoniyi.

AWB is for me one of the most limited players I have seen at United.  What’s the point in having a full back that is consistently good at winning the ball back, only to then give it straight back to the opposition as any pass over 5 yards is a challenge.

Rather go with what we have than waste a load of cash on someone with such obvious deficiencies in their game

Because he has weaknesses that are blatantly on show every week, so we like to discuss them. Should we all pretend he's perfect?

We all know your views mate, been here a few times!

There were moments where he could have done better, but overall was okay, he's similar to Buendia in that even when he has games where his play on the ball isn't great, he's never totally uselss as his hard work always makes a worthwhile contribution, won penalty and on another day could have scored a few himself

Was going to post something similar, it’s like Buendia, Unai not just looking at the individual but contribution to the section of the field.  The middle third is weakened without Buendia linking midfield & attack.

If Watkins is not there, the forward line is weakened because his energy and effort creates turnovers, opportunities and goals elsewhere.

We spend too much time digging into the individual without considering the collective and the total outputs

  16. Football is all about romanticism and academy products bring out that emotion, but the cold hard facts are if we do not find ways to win trophies, we and our Crown Jewels are easy pickings for the self entitled Sky 6.

If we want to upset that quango, have to be ruthless and not accept second best anywhere.  Better to lose starlets with buy-back clauses than stars!

I don't get this. This signing was seen by every neutral I know and all pundits I've listened to as a major coup for the club. And some are acting like they don't think he'll be able to defend in the Premier league.

    I'm confused.

    First time on VillaTalk? 😁

We we’re diagnosing Coutinho yesterday in real time, we will have retired Artificial Intelligence way before Terminator 1
