  1. I would be tempted to go with Gauci, that’s how nervous Olsen makes everyone.  Sorry, it’s the truth, the players, and crowd twitch everytime the ball goes anywhere near him.

  2. Ran himself into the ground today (and wasn’t alone in that!).

Fantastic performance by a fantastic player.  These boys are up for this fight!

  3. That was some performance, of the back of this week, with tired legs and a Bournemouth side with a bit about them.  I was nervous, I shouldn’t have been!

Also, the coach at the North Stand and players walking through the fans, stroke of genius to show the players what it meant to the fans, plus loads of kids got themselves a free flag & scarf 👏

  4. Weirdly, even at 2 down I always felt we were going to get through.

Those knocking the tempo, we have 3 games in a week, Lille had a week off, we are down to bare bones.  I think Emery is trying to manage the tempo to do enough to win, nothing more, to try and keep minutes in players legs.

If we manage to get 3 points against Bournemouth on Sunday, after the week we have had, the bloke is a bloody genius!

A rewatch of the penalty shootout shows how bad the commentary was -- both commentators misunderstand the situation with Emi's yellow card (which is fair enough, the rule is obscure) but then make increasingly wild and ridiculous assumptions about what is happening (at one point insinuating that Emi is asking if he's still allowed to be on the pitch) rather than just pipe down.

The commentary was dire throughout, neither of them should earn a wage doing that job!

  6. I like the look of this kid, body position is always bang on, takes it on the half turn and always seems to have time on the ball and ability to pick the right pass.

As AndyClarke said earlier, physique is key when it comes to the top league, AJ and JPB always looked like boys in a man’s team, this kid does not.

If we can get him and Rowe in (Rowe reminds me of Doku) that would be some window.  Imagine these two coming at you on 70 minutes

12 months ago - there were plenty of people on here moaning about why we couldn't do what Brighton do and sign a load of young / unknown players that go on to become megastars.  Now we have reputedly one of  the best football men in Europe in charge of our recruitment and some people are moaning about us not signing ready-made megastars or players that Liverpool or Spurs are chasing.  Monchi has a reputation for signing first team players in the summer and development players in the winter.  It makes a lot of sense - Pau Torres would have cost more last January because it would have been harder to replace him.  Kosta might be cheaper now because if he does get any more international caps over the next few months then he might start attracting the attention of more clubs.

Villa Fans just like moaning, it’s the same on match days with people whinging in the ground.

  8. 20 years old, massive potential, got the physique and pace to be a top class striker.

He is going nowhere and will mature as he grows up and the club ethos is embedded.

We are not selling a potential £60m plus striker for £20m because of some inflated X rubbish

Gallagher is a good player, one of Chelsea’s best. Anyone saying he just runs around like a headless chicken doesn’t understand football. Would be great at Villa.

Ha, so if I disagree with you I don’t understand football?

He is a headless chicken irrespective of your view

Getting better. Few more matches until we see the JJ of old I reckon. Must be a sickener for Zaniolo though, having to watch him play himself into form while he rides the bench.

I don’t think we will see the best of Zaniolo or Diaby till next year.  Just look at Bailey and the progression, not many get premier league year one

Oh yeh, that myth about Buendia being the king of this through ball which I’ve seen maybe twice at Villa. Tielemans can do what Buendia can do.

Classic case of player being x1000 better because he’s injured.

    Not good enough.

No, said the same to you when he was playing so your argument is mute.  You don’t rate him, I disagree it is what it is but has nothing to do with injury.

Credit to Emery, he has evolved the way we play to offset the pressing Beundia did higher up the pitch

  12. He didn’t cover himself in glory today, but to be fair, any Defense worth its salt should deal with a direct long ball being flicked on.  The fact we didn’t says more about defensive shape than anyone in it

I really like JJ so inclined to agree somewhat. However, both are much better than Buendia who is slow, weak and careless in possession.

Beundia is played to find that “number 10” pass, I would expect his pass success figures to be lower otherwise he is just another centre mid, defence splitting passes fail more than they succeed, but you win or lose on the minority that work.

The game today was a prime example, lots of possession, little penetration

    How bizarre? Oh how Bizarre?

Gallagher is energy without purpose, runs everywhere without cohesion or understanding, surprised he is has achieved where he is, personally think that this is his ceiling and for me, not a patch on JJ

I’d be ringing Roy Hodgson and inquiring asking price for both Eze & Olise? Then a quality RB to keep Konsa at CM.

Owners have to show that type of ambition to take advantage of Villa’s start to the season.

I don’t often agree with you Striker, but Eze would be a game changer for us, when we beat them 3-1, he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch
