It’s not about cold hard cash. The value of the players involved in the exchange also gets booked against PSR, so £60m approx in total. Not what most of us value him at, but still a lot of money and a price that works for Aston Villa.

2 days now and people still are not getting this are they?

If people (not the poster above!) think Emery signed a five year deal on the basis of flogging off players he wants to keep you are very wrong.  If he is selling, it’s because strategically he has a view on what next years side will look like, plus the player swap adds depth to the squad without lining Man City’s pockets due to the sell on clause.

As Emery said, we are going to have to be clever with our deals, that’s what is happening

McKennie has a good engine and gets up and down the pitch. Good presser and a workhorse. He’s basically a more central Matty Cash.

    Or Connor Gallagher?

He won't get anywhere near being Balotelli mark II. As I've posted before, Balotelli has won an absolute bucket load of personal awards as well as trophies and was a tremendous footballer.

Duran will do none of the above and isn't PL level in my opinion. I would absolutely take 20 to 30m for him. And we will.

Still missing the point I see, he could go either way and the reality is, nobody knows as it is entirely down to him

  4. I am guessing 70% of the people on here have never seen either McKennie or Illing Jr play, 20% saw McKennie go from Italian League to trying to play Leeds chaotic murder ball without success and the remaining 10% will just let the master plan play out

Based on what other than  regurgitated click bait based on assumptions … when did SSN become a bastion of truth. Even the most trusted of journalists also need to balance their integrity with hits …

Sky is Sun journalism at its worst, used to be a decent watch 20 years ago, now it’s just there to drive their betting business.

I had it on in the background earlier ans even my missus commented on how many times they regurgitate the same limited dross

  6. There are 6 decent clubs with decent players and an opportunity to resolve each others issues quite easily and without significantly reducing quality.

PSR is an artificial construct, treat it as such and work around it

The Pau Torres who err had just played for Spain in the World cup? The Pau Torres who errr had played in the CL the previous season and integral in Villareal knocking out Juve and Bayern Munich. The Torres who was great in 2021 when they were defeating Arsenal and Man. United B2B to win Europa league.

I must've missed all those higher calibre players we've signed since promotion compared to him. We signed him at a great age and exactly the experience needed for backline and he certainly wouldn't have joined if Emery wasn't around.

He's high quality alone for the simple fact Lenglet looked pretty average in the games he replaced him in. You're talking about a guy with 15 caps for France between 2019-21 and 100 games for Barca in four years yet the defence looked far weaker with him in it compared to Pau.

Diaby I think we need to be patient. He was very hit and miss last season but did well overall for Leverkusen like Bailey did so I believe those numbers will eventually translate to the prem (17 goals for Leverkusen in league and Europe in 21/22).

If you're expecting higher quality signings from regular starters of teams like Leverkusen and Villareal this summer I think you're going to be pretty disappointed.

Don’t bite, he’s just fishing.  Treat it with the disdain it deserves

Your first sentence says ‘he won’t’ be at Chelsea like it’s a certainty. That all hinges on the word ‘if’ in, your second sentence.

I’ve no doubt he would do really well for us, but i personally think he will be at Chelsea next season. Captain of the his boyhood club etc. They’ll get their act together next season too and be a lot better than they showed this season. They finished very strongly this season. Gallagher is also loved by the fans their, and he know that too. He’s staying there.

    Pochetino leaving suggests otherwise.

Those idiots threw the kitchen sink at their “grand plan” and it’s the homegrown players like Hudson Odoi, Chalobah and Gallagher who will be sacrificed to pay for it

X is not a strongly reliable source!  Just relax, we are in the best hands for a long, long time

He’s going to be starting more games than not for England in the euros

I don’t think he gets on unless game is absolutely won or Gareth gets his Gatorade spiked

Made the Guardian’s top five signings of last season (may have already been posted but I just saw it!)

Chant of the season?  Did we win it for El Ghazi?

I agree that he has shown in patches that he has the raw talent and has the potential to be Drogba 2.0, BUT personality (attitude) could also result in him becoming Balotelli 2.0....

I got beaten up by GlobalVillan for suggesting this 😂

Ramsey has played matches this season and im aware he has had injuries however  we seen a significant dip in performances when he has featured, what im suggesting is we may need another fit and firing class above LW to bring in that will hit the ground running, nobody and certainly not me is doubting his ability.

He never put a run of games together to gain the level of fitness needed to show that form.  If he rotates with Morgan/Buendia we are covered there in my opinion

  14. 1 hour ago, RicRic said:

We dont know how ramsey will fare and buendia is better in the middle, out wide on the left he is terrible so we could do with a player there

We know exactly how Ramsey will fair, he was flying in the league and the U21’s prior to injury.  He has a foot injury, not a ACL!

Why do you make it sound like he is an unknown?

  15. 7 hours ago, GlobalVillan said:

I doubt that very much. But we shall see.

Yeah totally agree. For McGinn to say that, on top of what Emery has said is not a good look.

If we get 30mil plus for him then we have had their pants down and I'd be delighted.

Regarding the Balotelli comparisons, here is what Balotelli has won:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Balotelli

    Inter Milan

    Manchester City

    Italy

    Individual

And that is why I get frustrated when people talk about Duran's supposed talents and potential.

He has done nothing at all to justify the claims or price tag of anyone like Balotelli. He has so far to go and with his attitude as it is, I don't see him making it.

As a point of comparison in terms of age, Balotelli had won back to back Serie A titles by age 18 and the Italian league and cup double at 19. By 21 he had won the Premier League and FA Cup double as well.

Whatever Duran is, Balotelli he is not.

Wow, judging by the amount of homework you chose to do I really hit the spot!

You suggested I “strawmanned” you, perhaps read my post again before you do the same and burn your bank holiday at the same time!

I said he reminded me of Balotelli in that his career could go either way.  You (more importantly they) cannot choose your start point so pointless comparing the two, it’s the END STATE I referred to.

When did I deny he has talent?  I disagreed with the claim he has "all the talent in the world". That is an view which is, in my opinion, baseless.

He has some talent but not 40mil worth and certainly not enough to have his poor professionalism stinking out the training ground and dressing room.

He is massively overrated by sections of our fanbase.

If he goes, he will be going for around that fee.

Only players I'd be interested in from Leeds are Gray and Rutter.

I think Gray is an Emery player, comfortable on the ball, tactically aware and can play in any number of roles (sure he has played full back, holding mid (yesterday) and attacking midfielder this season)

Personally, I am tired of reading things like this about him. When exactly did Duran show that he has "all the talent in the world"?

All I have seen, is a bloke who has some potential, who isn't remotely good enough to start for us, who comes on, causes chaos, get's booked and occasionally finds the net.

He has a bad attitude, does not have as much talent as some are suggesting and is absolutely not worth the kind of money some people are talking about.

40-50mil? Never in a million years is he worth that. And he will be sold for much less.

And as for comparisons to Jackson who is a starter for Chelsea and scoring goals regularly, well that's just crazy talk. Whenever Duran starts, he is woeful.

Seriously, this guy is even more overrated than the last kid we so sold to Chelsea, and that's saying something.

So let’s put some context rather than emotion, he score 8 goals last year I believe of all types, including a composed finish against Man City away and a technically superb volley against Palace at home where we laboured to break them down for 90 minutes.

He is strong, quick and can upset a set defence, all at the age of 20.

By all means dislike him for his personality and impatience, but denying he has talent does you no favours

  20. Duran reminds me a bit of Balotelli, all the talent in the world but not the full ticket and his career could go in either direction.

No absolutely not your right i cant judge those players but ive not been given any optimism of going after the calibre of players i feel that we should at this moment in time, i only see us linked to some underwhelming players as of now and also since he had come in, that is subject to change i hope, even in the dean smith and gerrard era there were players we were linked or going for that had abit of a wow factor we are going places feel, i am yet to feel that.

Thankfully Unai is here to build a dynasty, not appease any specific individual. Roger’s by necessity dropped straight in and did a superb job for us when we needed energy, he wasn’t being mentioned at Europe’s top table but didn’t turn out badly.

If you want “big name” links, see how that has panned out for United
