  1. Watched the Rumble last night - it almost felt like Rock was hanging around backstage and they sent him out on a whim to retrieve some form of credibility to what was becoming increasingly embarrassing. That title match though, wow.

  2.

Handing in my resignation tomorrow, so a bit nervous and have had a couple of whisky's as a result!

    How did it go?

New job or couldn't face working there anymore?!

Better than expected. Got the generic (disappointed but good opportunity) stuff from the partner but a really lovely note from someone in HR who recruited me originally.

Think my nerves were a mixture of the realisation I was actually resigning from a job I had no original intentions of leaving a month ago and the fact my new job is subject the standard background check process (I was also rushed when I filled out the form and made a small omission which looks a tad poor on my part should it get picked up) and would therefore be very humiliating if it was to fall through.

Still, happy as larry now but agreed to give the partner a week of keeping it quiet to allow the necessary plans to be made - would love to be able to tell a few more people!

Are you Paul Lambert? Please be Paul Lambert.

    Sorry!

  3.

Looks like my worries were false - currently awaiting a formalised offer following a successful final interview last week. Would be moving to London in a little over 2 months - exciting times!

Congrats!  Even though you are clearly mad to be swapping this fair island for life in the Big Smoke!  Who's it with?

Thanks mate. Too good an opportunity to turn down and is quite heart-wrenching to be potentially leaving the family and with my girlfriend taking the decision to come with me regardless of her own position - although don't want to tempt fate and think it's certain as I'm still to see a contract in writing and hand in the dreaded notice (which I am sure will not go down well at all). I'll PM you the company, don't want to jeopardise anything at this stage - it's been one hell of a recruitment process.

  4. I wouldn't want to become a train driver these days. We're at the point that it looks almost certain we'll have driverless cars on the roads within a decade. I can't imagine train drivers are far away from being automated out of a job.

I bet people were saying similar things in the 60s - I imagine there will always be some form of human factor, no matter how easy technology makes the process of driving a train to be automated.

  5.

    Guzan for me.

Attitude, presence in the box, everything.

Infact, if we had Guzan in goal in the Carling Cup Final, we would've won.

The Owen shot was very well placed into the corner as was the Rooney header so not sure he'd have saved either.

Infact that was a totally different Guzan, he lost his place because of his poor games in the Blackburn tie.

Full credit to him he's worked so hard on crosses and commanding his box since then and now he's fully established as number one of club and country.

I was about to say, some people have short memories. Guzan was the footballing equivalent of Dracula up until a couple of years ago and was truly dreadful in that semi-final.

Over the past week I've had 4 interviews for a job in London, had the last one this morning and didn't feel it went too well - quite disappointing given the amount of 'hoops' I've had to jump through. Had a lot of mixed feelings throughout the entire process given the obvious uproot and relocation, but managed to not convey it at all and pretty much sold it to myself - very much looking forward to a final decision now.

Still with the Big 4? Unfortunately they've tightened up a lot these days, it used to be the case that it was very simple to get a job on the IOM, then just transfer to one of the London offices after a year. I had a job interview back in the day with Coopers and Lybrand in London, it was spread over two days and I didn't get the job. My job interview with PwC over here consisted of a half hour chat with the senior partner, 15 minutes of which was about football.

Sounds about right r.e IOM interview - the person who interviewed me for what was the 'final' interview actually burped loudly upon entering, which did break the ice somewhat!

It's actually quite easy to transfer internally at my current firm provided it is with local blessing, although I wouldn't really want to move within audit - the opportunity is with an investment bank.. best keep that quiet on this forum however! Still not 100% either way though, I would be very happy to take a good opportunity on Island.

  8. The last time I saw our fans as confident as this was against QPR away the other month, which is worrying. We need to get the first goal today (as in any game) to give ourselves the best chance of getting a result.

Confidence to mirror a strong attendance today?

  9. Currently working my way through this - have to say i found it pretty bloody difficult so far, never thought trying to time kicking out of a pin would have my controller through the tv in frustration

  10. I'm finding it annoying, does the alien genuinely wander round or does it just keep spawning in places where you are? Rather than being stealthy you seem to just have to do a task, hide, do a task, hide.

it didn't seem to spawn for me, but just when you'd think it was okay to venture out (after hiding initially) it would come shooting back to your area - i would generally stay hidden until after the second time it came back then there appeared to be a decent window of time to move on to the next area.
  11. There seems to be some revisionism at work here. Before Southampton, Ciaran Clark hadn't been playing well and that's exactly why many have wondered why Okore couldn't get into the team sooner.

Yeah I agree, I'm struggling to buy into this notion all CBs were playing well before they got injured.
  12. But the centre backs weren't playing badly.

And how do we know Okore was ready at that point?

How come his good performances now are evidence that he was ready all along and not evidence that he was eased back in correctly?

I can remember many a person on here slating Clark/Baker and calling for Okore when Vlaar was out injured and since then too - I also wouldn't say being 'eased back in' is playing a full game 3 times in the space of 9 days because we have no other option.

  13. Why would he?

Well, we were in a bit of a stinker at the back and he surely could have come in before the injuries, however Lambert told all that he wasn't ready.

    Looks ready to me.
