I need a book to read on holiday.
Already got one but I'd like another. Preferably something fairly light given that it's a holiday read, and the gf said she might give it a read as she's not taking a book (and the book I already have is about goalkeepers so couldn't be less interesting to her!
Was going to buy Trainspotting that I mentioned earlier but again think that might be a bit deep for a casual one the beach read
Any suggestions?
The Goldfinch. It's long but not heavy.

Used to put everything handle-down until we had a little girl come in to A&E who had fallen face first into Grandma's dishwasher. Not pretty. Now it's sharp end down in mine.

Recently read 'The Son' by Philipp Meyer (American Rust) - epic story about a family in Texas starting in the 19th century. Reminded me of Cormac McCarthy quite a bit.

Billy can't sing and neither can I, but we still get the gig.

I'm married to a deputy head. She goes out at 7am and comes home at 7pm, then starts the work she does at home. Weekends works at home at least 3-4 hours a day. Nice long holidays though when she is around all the time. Did my head in to begin with but now it's just the way it is.

I worked in a small independent coffee/wine shop on Broad Street back in the day, think it was called Talboys. He used to roast beans in the shop.

I'm reading Ask the Dust at the moment. It's easily great and hilarious. I haven't got that much of a frame of reference because I don't read loads and loads, but I'd say this one reminds of Hunger by Knut Hamsun and it's also slightly similar to Notes from the Underground by Fyodor dostoevsky. Also apparently it was a big influence on charles bukowski who wrote the forward, I don't know too much about him though.
Ask The Dust is part of "The Bandini Quartet". If you like it you'll love the others.

It's a long game. Getting to the root of it is difficult to understand and sort out, and once sorted you have a chance to change. Hard, hard work that is never done. Someone pointed out this black dog video today:

Z Nation.
Maintains the standard of good zombie viewing; truly dreadful but addictive. The opening credits are a masterpiece though.
