He works quite hard and his set pieces are good, but in open play he is decidedly average, even at this level.

He's had no chance to form a partnership with Davis and had to drop far too deep to get a touch of the ball.
-
He did his best to drive us on in the second half, contributed a lot more to our attacking play than Elmohamady.
-
Still 45 minutes for the manager and players to show what they are made of. It ain't over yet, but are we actually any good?
-
I think he did ok again considering Jota was their danger man. His forward play was generally poor, did nearly create a goal for Davis though.

And he ambles back when out of position, something those who praise his commitment seemingly choose to overlook...
I'm not commenting on Hutton, but have you seen Elmohamady 'running' back when caught upfield - he would need to shift up a few gears to reach ambling speed.

I think Hogan is a good player when played to his strengths, but my heart always sinks when he comes on for us because I know we are just going to lump long balls for him to get nowhere near, it just feels like waving the white flag. I don't think Bruce has ever tried to use him constructively, when he comes off the bench it is a sign of desperation.

He got destroyed by Fredericks today, RDL should be in there.
For getting destroyed by Fredericks, see Amavi last season at their place. Sure, Hutton got beaten a few times but i thought he did ok for the most part, stopped the ball coming in on several occasions, he's a good player that Fulham lad.

Redeemed himself with that brilliant save.

Another excellent performance today, not much else to say.

I don't think he has really shown his quality for us yet, but he probably does more active defending than Elmohamady behind him.

He looked a good player when he first came, so I'm not sure why he has only been a bit-part player so far. He was very good today, gave us some much needed energy and physicality in the middle.

You mention condescension and yet your reply to my post (which didn't include you personally, in any way) is:
"So running all the way over from LB position to put in a brilliant last ditch tackle on a player coming though the right side of our defence was down to his bad positional play? Where was the RB as the the CB's were hopelessly outpaced? Dunno, but blame Hutton."
You quoted my post, which neglected to include that good tackle (because it wouldn't help my argument) and then told me that I did.
I'm not bothered about not being right, I was just airing my views on his overall contribution to Aston Villa. So I'd appreciate it if you didn't put words in my mouth. Particularly ones that I purposefully left out.
And then there's the stuff about me being condescending, when I think your post was full of it.
But we're big boys and we're villa fans so I'm sure this just a 1 off.
Lapal_fan, i've never had any problem with you before, let's just chalk this up as a misunderstanding and move on, apologies for any derogatory comments.

Thanks Weedman, that's exactly my point - obviously said in a more concise and erudite manner!

What ARE you on about?
I picked Lapal up on something that he said, he could have answered but chose to respond like a condescending jerk instead, naturally that provoked a response.
-
Typical deflection tactics - where did you say the RB was again?
You don't need to add a caveat, just don't say things that are wrong in the first place.
-
Maybe you should go back and re-read your post if you are suggesting that you didn't say that.

If that's all the information you got out of my post then I can't help you.
If I was put in a professional football team 200/300 odd times, you'd get a decent highlights package out of me.
I don't need you to help me, thanks.

He wouldn't have had to do those eye catching things if he was in the right position,

Unfortunately the 3 up top didn't realise they were banned from joining in, quite often when they won the ball back you could say they had 6 in there if you count the wide players. Our 4 contained 2 wingers, theirs di not.
We often had 7-8 players in our own box against 3 Wolves players at the most - they didn't get enough men into the box first half, but they rectified it in the second. Pulling our midfield into our own box so readily is always going to give us problems in terms of reaining and turning over possession, regardless of the formation employed by us or our opponents.

It really would kill some people to admit he had a good game.
-
Too small and slow, we need more energy in the middle. I don't think his distribution has been enough of a plus to keep him in the team, he makes more backwards passes than Westwood. I would go with Lansbury or Onomah rather than Jedi, I think lack of mobility is one of our problems.

Come on. He made one slip and unfortunately it caused a goal. We can't jump on a player every single time like this. Elmo has looked pretty good at right back.
I'm not jumping on him at all, but he just doesn't tackle. He wasn't exposed playing against weaker teams, but I don't think he is a long-term solution in the RB slot.

I think people are going over the top creaming themselves about Wolves. They aren't the first team that we have made to look like Brazil and won't be the last. They are flavour of the month, like Leeds were a while ago, but it's a marathon not a sprint, I wouldn't be surprised if they go off the boil further down the line.
We will continue to underachieve with Bruce in charge, I'm not convinced that the quality of our squad is so good that underachieving will be good enough for a play off place. We have got some good players, but we're lacking in the centre.

Yeah, Bruce is all about the attack.
