  1. So here's the dealio. One of my best mates is a scum fan (I know Iknow, but he is of the minority in the fact that he isn't a complete penis and i can actually have an intelligent conversation with him about the two teams) and I've watched all but 2 villa blues prem derbies around his house with a load of mates and his family, a great mix of blues and villa fans, (even though some of his family ARE the stereotypical scum fan) anyway, it's a good laugh and a hell of a lot better than getting glassed down the pub during the match.

Point is, the only two I didn't watch at his house (I was at Uni) we won. He rang me today to invite me round for yet another Villa vs Blues game...do I attend?!

    Similar dilemma here too.

I'm planning on watching the game in my local pub. Good mix of Villa and Blues, my mate's birthday, basically gonna make a day of it...

    ...but...

...Villa have never ever won a game that I watched in that pub - and I've watched dozens of games there over the course of about 8 years. A perfect example is Spurs away this season. I listened to the first half in the car on the radio, I got into the pub just in time for the second half.

I dunno if I should jinx it. haha

  2. MON is massively overrated by the media for what he has actually done.

Mourinho has actually done what MON gets similar hype for, when MON has not been even close to!

That's an absurdly simplistic and quite frankly inaccurate view, Jez.

    You're turning into Malcolm.

I don't think so. Mourinho won the CL with Porto, then the prem with Chelsea in his first season.. of course he spent a fortune, but turning them into a team in his first season was an awesome achievement.

Can we all at least agree that if you gave Martin O'Neill a half decent team and a few hundred million quid to spend on it, he would win the Premiership?

  3. What has MON done for us except a mid-table finish and a couple of dodogy transfer market buys, and a defeat to pretty ordinary Man City.

When we get only a point or a loss to Everton people will start realising he isn't all that.

And I still don't see what MON has achieved except for a few poxy titles in Scotland where Petrov looked a player?

    :?

Every season that MON has been a manager, his team have performed better than anticipated and won games and competitions that they were not expected to win. That's why he's so highly rated. It's been a theme throughout his career. Aside from the Champions League win, Jose has won games and competitions that he WAS expected to win. Well done to Jose for winning the Euro cup but is it that much more of an achievement than Leicester winning a cup? Relatively speaking?

But anyway... I've always said the Villa job is MON's toughest test. Expectations are huge and so is the competition. In Scotland expectation was equally high but there wasn't much in the way of competition. He's not perfect but he's doing okay.

  4. I disagree. I dont think it proves your great at management when you spend 10 x the amount the other teams spend.

Exactly. The vast majority of professional football managers could have replicated what he did at Chelsea. I'm not saying it's easy or it's not something to be proud of, but given the tools he had at his disposal it's harder to lose than it is to win.

  5. Both of them are pretty much equally good managers. MON's already here and knows the players so we'd be better off keeping him. Plus he's nuts and I love him :)

I really don't get why Mourinho's the messiah.

  6. General,

Just to add to Ians post, a few years back, the gane was shown on a big screen from the pitch in front of the Holte End. It was well attended with a good atmosphere and something I'd love to see happen again.

That's been done a few times in the past. It makes money too... fans pay a fiver or whatever to get in and watch on the big screen. Not sure what the police would say about it but I'd have thought it was worth looking into?

  7. "Firstly, I felt that Luke Moore can do the exact job that Harewood Harewood will be doing"

    Are you a not-so-clever person?

    No offense but really?

Wouldn't you be better to ask Martin this? Ring him up or something?

He's not reading this you know.

Edit: Wahey! I got an answer in before it was deleted :)

  8. 2. I am not involved in Player Selection...that is the remit of Randy and MON. As such, I do not even attempt to determine who they are looking at. I know you all think I have a "list" in my back pocket but I do not. I have said that time and time again....I am NOT involved in player selection in any way. I have tried to say this in as many ways as I can. Randy and MON are taking care of this area of the Club.

Thanks General. Sorry if the question annoyed you.

There was no ulterior motive - I was just curious.

  9. Bought one about 3 years ago because I was working away and didn't want to miss the Sopranos. I recorded one episode and have never used it since. I wouldn't mind but it wasn't cheap!

It's still under the telly, next to the Sky+ box. I use it for the clock!
