So Bent is signing for Spurs to sit on the bench. If this is the case so be it, I like Bent but is he really as good as everyone makes out he is and has he really proven to be that much better than Defoe? If the latter was playing 90 minutes week in week out even for the likes of Charlton you can guarantee he would still bang in the goals! I'd be happy with either player but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if neither came to us. There are many strikers in Europe that are just as good in my opinion.

SHOCK ANNOUNCEMENT, Sidwell Signs for Villa!.......... is what they will say when the news comes out. I've said it before and ill say it again, he has already signed for us. I can feel it in my bones.

I just have a sneaky feeling. or maybe im just hoping. They have way to many midfielders. He will only play in January when players leave for Africa but apart from that he would be making a big mistake surely!

I would hope that every player on our books feels like that. I suppose thats when it gets difficult with the type of player we trying to attract. They all wanna play week in week out.

Viduka would be a good signing on a free as long he didn't expect a first team start and understand would be a squad player fighting for a place. If he was happy with that it would be great business. But i doubt he would be.

Yakubu will get you goals but he does seem way to lazy at times.

Any news on a right back linked to us apart from Young. This is by far the most important area that needs a replacement. Apart from Delaney, who is the last decent right back we have had the club? Nelson? Charles maybe? quite a problem area.

Milner would always be a good signing, young and full of talent. Doubt the new manager will want to lose him though.

why are people even mentioning replacing Gabby. We need a new striker to strengthen the number of strikers in the squad, not to replace them. For me Gabby has to start next season. He is probably the fastest player in the league and has a real eye for goal. I can see him getting 15+ goals next season.

If that was the quality of our bench we would have one hell of a team!! I'm sure Carew and Petrov are in MON's plans as first teamers but theres nothing like a bit of healthy competition to keep everyone on their toes. Dont rate Luke Young though, surely we can find better. Who's Nasri?

HAHA, thats a great description but Wolves are practically the same breed. I don't mind which one comes up because I'm sure it will be 6 points for us either way.

If we buy Joey Barton you'd have to respect MON's judgment and see it as a good signing. He is clearly a class player that will only get better in time. Look at players like Cantona and Edmundo, pure nutta's but class acts! Even though I'm not comparing these players to Joey Barton ability wise i still think he can do a job for us.

there seems to be a lot of talk about SWP but he was starting to show what he is capable of near the end of the season and i don't think Chelsea will sell him for the sake of it.

excellent post, i agree with everything you have said but i also think Gabby played on the wing alot because of his hard work and 100% effort to support weakness's at the back. To many Villa fans have turned against MON for his selections but we have to give him time. Surely a man of his experience knows better than us and he will prove what a good manager he is next season.

I think we already know that this is a problem area for Villa and has been for some seasons now because of injuries to Delaney. But when thinking of a potential replacement it's hard for a player to spring to mind. Any ideas or do you think MON will need to look abroad for this one? Sorry if anyone thinks this thread is pointless but Im so bored at work I need some villa banter What about Ferrera from Chelsea, even if on loan?
