If Liverpool werent so negative thingking they may have won against a pretty ordinary Milan (on the night anyway). But yes, they have bought so may good defensive midfielders hoping one will click alongside Gerrard. Too many average Spanish or spanish speaking players though. Thats their problem. On the flip side we have a few decent all round midfielders in Petrov Barry and Gardner but could do with a couple of players in there. One an attacking midfielder and a player to break up play and has a bit of quality on the ball too. I still think Kallstrom and Sneijder would be more than suitable if we could get them.

I have a slightly more sophisticated system of deciding how good a player is than how many caps he has for an U21 side or if Man Utd have noticed him and made a bid to be honest. Also, I have been watching Gardner in reserves for a year or two and have formed my opinion on that. And I am sure he is a better player now, if not as experienced. I dont recall seeing NRC smashing volleys in after making perfectly timed runs and playing in several positions when called upon. Come to think of it, I've never seen NRC doining anything of note particularly. A good player but limited. Gardner has awesome potential. One day you might notice.

No he isnt. Gardner will be at least twice the player NRC is. Anyway. I think we should be looking at Kim Kallstrom. A good all round midfielder. Tall, strong and a good range of passing. Ideally suited for the PL. Kallstrom and Sneijder would be perfect for us.

You can discuss whatever you wish with whoever you wish but registrations cannot change hands until the window is open.

Personally I'd keep Bouma at LB with Barry, Ridewell and O'Halloran as back up. Its not like Bouma isnt a top class experienced player.

Is Taylor really all that good? I mean, yes he scores spectacular goals but there doesnt seem to be much else. Like another Hitzlsperger to be honest.

Whilst I personally dont care what other clubs are doing. It isnt neccesary to update us every hour. Also, I dont see how showing everybody elses comings and goings will asuage anybody's misplaced anxiety. Oh erm...... :?

I'd rather play Zoltan Steiber a young hungry up and coming player or Maloney, approaching his prime than put a busted flush like Kewell in their way. How is Kewell, who has seen his best days gone and his dream move a complete failure supposed to motivate himself in a Villa shirt for the few games he can be arsed to play in? If MON sees it differently, fair enough. But I doubt it. A lot of people forget (or just choose to ignore) the clout this club has now, what with IMG guys on board and massive resources to attract top players and yet many people still want to believe that we'll sign all these cast offs and miss out on every top player we have the cheek to enquire about. As for Kewell, yes he used to be a top player for Leeds. So did Bowyer. Both have done shag all since then and thats how it will stay by all accounts. Anyway, Berger is a senior left sided player and if we signed Kewell he would be in competition with him. Do we really need another one?

Harry Kewells Halcyon days are far behind him and he's not good enough for us anymore. If you think thats arrogance, tough. I dont. If we have the resources (and we have) to find players that are good enough for Liverpool we should be after them, not their cast off has beens on £60,000 p/w. Liverpool or whoever cant have them all.

Defoe is undoubtedly a quality player but we could get a more suitable player. He seems very similar to Luke and Gabby and would make us slightly predictable up front. Still, if it is Defoe I wont complain.

Sam, my info was that Spurs were prepared to pay that much for Young but Boothroyd advised him to go to Villa and Young prefered Villa too. You may or may not believe it as you're a "realist" but its true nonetheless. Bent may prefer Spurs and we might not even be interested in him. Who knows? But as for a choice between the two clubs, its far from a foregone conclusion and in fact, there is precedent for one player choosing Villa even though our stock was lower then than it is now.
