  1. 16m investment for little or no retun.

It's comments like this that are leading me to spend less and less time on here. It's a shame, but I am losing the will to keep arguing with this kind of thinking.

That is simply unjustifiable, based on the history of transfers in football.

  2. My question is, if you had a choice, what would you rather win

An away match would be nice, 3 goals for, in a match, two wins on the trot, convincing performances, the belief we have a manager and squad capable of achieving a top 10 finish, all would suit me.

Next time just answer the bloody question please.

If you're not interested, don't bother.

    FFS.

  3. Great article! However, about Chris Price being "ahead of his time": in which case Stan Lynn and John Gidman were eons ahed of their time! Stan Lynn equalled the league's goalscroing record for a full-back in 1958 (9 goals) and scored another 7 two seasons after. And John Gidman was no slouch in getting up. I think John Robson (before he was put into midfield) was a pretty good attacking back as well. And what about Kenny Swain and Gary Williams?

    Fair enough John.

It's easier to be prone to hero worship - and maintain those memories in that manner as you grow older - when you're a little kid though :)

  4. Champions League or Premiership?

As the RedScouse have shown, winning the Champions League can be done without winning the Premiership.

My question is, if you had a choice, what would you rather win?

I fancy most people will pick Champions League. But I say the Premiership.

Yes that success for Liverpool was great, but I have far more respect for the ManUre, Chelsea and Arsenal sides of recent sides.

I know it is a little dull but there is just something about doing the type of thing that United did yesterday - going away, not really playing well but pulling a result out of the bag.

The choice between the two is very difficult, but I would feel more proud if we won the Premiership, I am sure of it...

  5. That's a cracker Kimbo! We're about the same so you dragged up a few of my old memories too there! In the Cov defeat, didn't Kevin Drinkell score with his first touch of the ball? Sickener.

Yeah I think he come on while Mountfield was off injured as well?

Mickey Gynn or whatever his name was got the other one! Minging!

  6. Good report again dude.

Oh, and IMO, spot on with:

Jlloyd Samuel... In the last three reserve games he’s featured at right back, left back and centre back and while I don’t think centre half is his future, I’m hoping there is a Villa future for Jlloyd.

  7. I appreciate your obedience. :winkold:

    Yes, mistress... :?

Right I think, Xanga aside, I will just be posting here from now on.

Seems I can make a little bit of cash each month from it, so why not.

  8. Well I have read all this and on page 4 I said that I felt nothing would change my mind that it is not down to choice. Quite frankly, some of the points made arguing my beliefs have only managed to strengthen them. That's not a joke or a dig, that is a 100% factual statement.

ObiWan Sheriff: Strike me down, you will only make me stronger.

    Man, I'm a geek.

  9. I have Man U, but more by default.

Arsenal are wonderful, absolutely wonderful to watch when playing well. Arsene Wenger though, I despise, and Jens Lehmann is that much of a dickhead that he makes Robbie Savage look like a good bloke

Chelsea - I hate a lot of the players. I don't like Mourinho. I think their fans are idiots. I could go on...

My issue with Liverpool is strange one. I have never really liked them, apart from when I was a little kid & they were the best team in the country. I always preferred Villa of course, but I guess I did like them.

When Roy Evans took over though I started to go off them. Possibly when Souness took over even, but in all honesty I quite like Souness, albeit I never EVER want to see him connected with our club on any level!

This is very strange but I think it is partly because they should be better than they are. I look at signings of people like Pennant and I just think, "rocket polishers!"

Man U though... well I hate Gary Neville & Rio Ferdinand. But I have no real issues with them otherwise. I even kinda like Fergie, and I actually liked Roy Keane, contrary to how many other people feel about him. I also have the upmost respect for Giggs and Scholes, and I am a huge Wayne Rooney fan.

  10. Inspired by something I wrote about a minute ago on another thread, I was just wondering... out of the top 4, who do you actually like the most? Or to put it another way, who do you least dislike?

Mods could you add a poll please?

I was just trying to do it but I'm clueless...

    Done - Bicks

  11. There aren't many better than SWP and I reckon we'll go in for him in the summer so hopefully he wont play much for Chelsea up to then. He showed small glimpses against Spain. A run in any team and he'd be sharp again.

Yeah at one point in the first-half he went round two of their blokes with absolute ease and it was just an example of the glimpses of class you do still get from him.

I have absolute faith that if Martin O'Neill signs Shaun Wright-Phillips that it will be a superb signing for us.

  12. I just feel if we want to be competiting with the top four then we need to be getting better forwards than Robbie Keane. At club level in nearly eight years playing at the top level he just doesn’t seem to score that many goals, and few against the top teams; I think twice against Arsenal and once against Chelsea (pre-Roman). Maybe I am expecting too much, but I want to see a player who can do more? I am hoping with I S-M going abroad we will turn up some world class player?!?

From the Premiership I think Bent or Ashton are the only two, really, that I would very much like, as I have mentioned earlier in this thread.

Abroad? Possibly depends on how we do for the rest of this season. Klose and Diego at Werder Bremen, for example, are unlikley targets. But maybe if we go on a good run, nick a UEFA Cup spot, sell the club to them that they could be the push to get us in the Champions League...

We have already proved with Carew that we can compete with them financially. So while this is about the limit for my expectations, I do not think it is totally unrealistic, although maybe just a little bit.

  13. But for a man like me, it's damn simple - you are what you are, end of!

yes but were you born as the " what you are ", or was your life shaped by events and influences , what \who made you support Villa for example , what made you choose that bit of totty for your Avatar (who is she btw , i feel the need to research her on the web ) what if you were a soldier for 30 years and one day decided you want to be a pacifist and refuse to fight having maybe already killed 30+ men prior to this point ..who are you then ?? were you born a pacifist or born a non pacifist , and how did you change if you are born " what you are " ??

Well, I'm pretty certain I am 'what I am' through me being that way when I was born. Yes, me being a Villa fan, for example, is something that was drilled into me, but to me my sexuality is no different than the colour of my eyes.

Hey, I grew up - and still live - on a council estate, didn't try in school, got drunk for the first time at 10 and took cocaine for the first time at 14. I went to college for about six weeks but left because nearly all my mates were working & could afford to go out up Town & I wanted a piece of that. I now work in a shitty job with crap pay & half the staff above me are idiots. So trust me, I do not pretend to be the smartest bloke on here by any stretch of the imagination.

But this just seems SO simple to me. Some things we choose are based on experience out of life, and some things we are born with. Maybe I am wrong, but I daresay no-one will convince me otherwise.

On a lighter note, the lady in the avatar is Sarah Chalke. She is an American actress, who I discovered through 'Scrubs', which is one of my favourite TV shows - available on E4, Paramount Comedy 1 or abc1. So now go and learn about her :winkold:

  14. I can't see how it is a choice.

The writer of this post gets some freaky thoughts in his head & certainly doesn't choose to have them (I will leave that there  :winkold:)

I have no idea why I am attracted to women and not men, why I prefer tall women, why I prefer brunettes, and whatever else.

From a scientific point of view it possibly is a long, complicate and unsolved issue.

But for a man like me, it's damn simple - you are what you are, end of!
