For every Roy Keane, there are thousands of worse players.
He was a fantastic player, just played for two clubs I dislike immensely.
Forest and Celtic? :winkold:
-
Ah but the point is, I still made my argument.
For the record, I remember being gutted when he left.
So, what I was saying in the first place was, it is easy to make it look like it's best the player is moving on, if you choose to voice your opinion in that manner.
Just like WHU fans are doing with NRC.

A few points-
IF we were to sign Dean Ashton tomorrow the Spammers would post that he's a shite to average injury prone player.
Was just thinking this.
There are very few players that, if leaving, fans could not make themselves feel better about by concentrating on the negatives & playing down the positives.
I have been going the Villa since 1988, and Paul McGrath & Gordon Cowans aside (and even when they left it was due to age) I reckon I could have done it with every other player we've had.
(Well, Dwight Yorke, but lets not talk about him :winkold:)
Although, that has been easier to do the last few years :?
Platt?
Didn't think he was as good in 90/91, he'd started diving a bit - which, bearing in mind the era, was more of an issue then - & had his heart set on a big move to Italy.
Also helped fund the Big Ron revolution.

I personally think that at the end of the transfer window a lot of people are going to be disappointed with who we've bought. However I do believe at the end of the season MON will of done us us proud with his buys.
Spot on, in my humble opinion.
-
Only reason chelsea signed him was because he didnt want united or anyone else getting him.
So if he aint any good, then why would Chelsea give a shit where he goes?
-
SWP would be great...he is class...and yet not shown his full potential!
I agree and that is because he wasn't getting his chance at chelsea. However he did start playing a bit more towards the end of last season and picked up some form so it shows he still has it and would be a great asset to us where he would play regularly.
I agree there, but that might be why Chelsea won't sell him.
Depends on what Chelsea do, I reckon. I mean, he only played so much really as they had injury issues. Seems to me that if he wants regular first team football he needs to move on. However, I don't think he should have ever moved to Chelsea in the first place, so he'll probably stay.

Whereas Egghead will throw money at a problem.
I'm a problem, I'm a problem!

This thread is rubbish but addictive.
Much like a scotch egg.
Oh, and I am the only one that feels a little embarassed about being linked with Harry Kewell?
Aston Villa, like. Not me personally.

I'd be very surprised if we brought in 10 players.
Have we ever done that, by the way? I was just thinking Big Ron might have in 1991?
90/91 close season - Cox, Penrice, Davis, Regis, Atkinson, Ehiogu, Sealey, Mortimer, Teale
91/92 close season - Richardson, Staunton, Kubicki, Parker, Farrell, Barrett, Bosnich, Berry, Houghton
Both seasons 9 in. In '91 close season we sold 10 players so actually reduced the squad size. In '90 we sold 5.
Didn't Regis, Atkinson, Mortimer, Teale, Richardson and Staunton make their debuts at Sheff Wed?! I'm positive they weren't signed a year apart.
I thought that. I mean, Staunton got the winner at Wednesday.
I was certain, after the 91/92 season, Ray Houghton was the only addition, maybe Bosnich too.

God bless you

we must be looking to buy 7 or 8 this summer.
I think we need to rbing in an extra 3 players on top of that (i.e cover for defence and midfield) so MON has to have at least 10 players penciled in on his list.
Looks like its gonna be a busy summer

Anyway... I have said before that I don't think we'll increase numbers per se, we'll just increase options. Replacing the likes of Hendrie, Djemba-Djemba, Samuel... I mean, how close to the team were they anyway, really?
So assuming all 3 of those are gone soon, and we bring in 3 new players, it will feel like we have a bigger squad, even though we don't, if you catch my drift.
-
Is it just me or is anyone else thinking MO'N will probably pull a couple of names out the bag that no-one has mentioned?
Yeah, there might be one or two from the Defoe-NRC-Bellamy-Boruc etc pool of players that we're constantly being linked with, but I can't help but feel there might be a couple of surprises, whether they be big names or not.
And no, I don't mean literally big names like Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
-
A nice enough article there OBE, I enjoyed that.
Personally I think Hendrie is an annoying little rat who should have left us years ago, but your article is a much nicer, more level-headed summary than mine
-
This is not meant in a negative way
Are you sure Jez, you negative so-and-so? :winkold:

Dude, the dust hasn't settled on this season yet.
Plus there has hardly been anything disasterous we've missed out on yet.
I mean, the people that are losing the plot because we didn't sign Sylvan bloody Distan are probably the same people who were slagging us off for not signing Boa Morte :?
I feel your frustration my friend but I really think you need to relax
-
Why is it sooooo bloody hard for Villa to be the quickest team to get their men? Why do we always seem to wait until the final lap is on? I cant bloody understand this...
I hope there is news soon about us signing SOMEONE or I go crazy! Many teams has already made good signings...like Portsmouth, Manchester U, Chelsea, Tottenham...we need to be aggressive on the transfer market and not wait for everyone else to take their share before we steps in to get the best of the rest!!!
And so it has begun.
-
Good summing up there 306.
Was superb for one season.
But after the last two seasons, with the crowd reaction etc, best all round that he left, I'd say.
-
re Matty Taylor - the whole thing is probably bull shit but if it isn't...
JLS has left. Taylor would be a direct replacemant, and more importantly, an improvement.
Which is surely a step in the right direction?
So it's not a 'glamour' signing. I still fail to see the problem.
-
They do play it at most games.
Don't think it's the Johnny Cash version though, which it should be, IMO, purely cause I loved the man
-
Will Mr. O'Neill please play Gareth Barry in central midfield role from now on... Give him a year in the middle, and he'll start in front of Lampard next summer for England, mark my word.
Not a chance in hell, sadly.
I despise Frank Lampard - I'd say he's probably the most overrated player in the world.
But as long as McLaren is around, Gaz Baz will never take that place.
Nor will a few other better options.
ARGH
This type of nonsense is JUST ONE of the reasons why I find it hard to care about international football anyway
-
I also watched Mcshane last night in the playoff game and he also looks good and has been mentioned one or two times on here already.. along with distin on a free these 2 i think would do as per our RB situation!
Thoughts...?
Distin is left-sided mate.

Some of my Dad's mates used to write in to the mail with ridiculous letters posing as Blues fans and at the end it would be signed off by 'A Pratt', and things like that
