  1. I said this on our forum but if I was a Villa fan I'd be absolutely outright fuming at whoever's decision it was to stick a £8m clause in there during a time where we were looking at James McCarthy for potentially £25m or Barkley for potentially £40m. He's singlehandedly cost you probably £10m-£15m which is just negligent

Only it isn't given that if he hadn't signed it you could have signed him on a Bosman this summer already.

Getting him to sign the deal has earned us £8m not cost us £10m-£15m.

So its like you say, only completely the opposite.

Would he not have signed at £9m? What about £8.5m?

And if he's earnt you £8m then it's handshakes all round, job well done and thanks for the memories Delph isn't it? He's done you a favour here by signing that deal and letting himself be bought for £8m rather than walking for free like Milner did for us (to a potential rival, who we congratulated, thanked him for his time and put up nice videos of him on the OS).

If that is, he's earnt you £8m as you say

I'm sure the club would have tried to get the clause as high as possible. Delph is the only reason it is so low.

  2.

Players look scared to go down the tunnel. They know what's coming

I wouldn't stand for it if I was them, if Sherwood had a go at me after the way he's set the team up, he'd be going back out with a black eye and I'd be on the transfer list.

Apart from Hutton I don't see how else he could set them up. 4 of them goals are basic errors in defending not tactics.

He's got the back four on the halfway line.

That back four should be on the edge of our penalty area, if they were, we wouldn't have conceded any of the five goals we conceded in the first half. That's not to say we wouldn't have conceded some different goals; we're not playing well, but we've conceded pretty much the same goal five times and it's all down to where our defensive line are.

A mistake is a mistake, we all make them, but Southampton have shown it's a mistake for five goals and another half a dozen chances and we haven't changed it. That's down to the manager.

Westwood and Vlaar being complete bell ends wouldn't have changed if the defence was deeper.

  3. Diving insinuates no contact... There was contact between Grealish and Lescott on the way to Jack hitting the deck...

Whether that is because Lescott tackled poorly, missed the ball and hit him accidently OR Lescott tackled poorly, missed the ball and Jack clipped him on purpose to play for the foul... The fact remains, Jack was impeded from running onwards because of a poorly timed tackle from an opposition player...

We should have had a free kick and Jack should never have been sent off...

On what planet is that not cheating?

On Earth IF Joleon Lescott cleanly tackles the ball and knocks it away instead of missing the ball altogether.

However, on Saturday, on Earth, Lescott didn't get the ball... He committed to a tackle, hit the floor, missed the ball and got the player... He didn't mean to get the player, but he got him nonetheless... He will have to work on his tackling...

That's just nonsense. May aswell outlaw any attempt at tackling if that's case.
Explain your logic. We already have rules for this.

Just because someone misses a tackle doesnt mean the opposing player has a right to ensure contact and the free kick.

  5. Won't sell out maybe another 500 or so.

Still given the stringent criteria it's a good showing. If a purchaser could have more tickets than 1 per reference that would have been more sensible. When I go I pay on my debit card and mates give me the money

You can still asign your mates reference numbers to the extra tickets whether you are buying them or not.

  6.

People have been saying that since the mid 90s though.

How long do you think bubbles last? Some are five years, others are thirty or longer.

I'm not saying when this bubble will burst, but in all history all bubbles do.

It may burst at some point in the future but any investors aren't going to look at the massive new TV deal about to come into play, at a time when they aren't allowed to waste millions of there own money and think £150m is excessive.

Obviously our current position in the league makes them weary at present though. I'd be surprised to see a team sold for less than £100m in the premier League any time soon.

  7. I've got a mate trying to sell his house in Pinner. He wants 650,000 quid for a four bedroom semi. He's had two viewings and no offers in nearly a year, in spite of decorating it and sticking some twigs in a vase.

I gave him some advice: Drop the fcking price by a hundred grand at least.

He looked at me as though I was mental.

We seem to live in an era where people want the money for assets that they think it's 'worth'. Those days are rapidly heading for the rocks.

He already has lowered his asking price from apparently £250m to £150m. That doesn't look like an unreasonable asking price on something with £100m+ turnover.

    That's turnover.

Also, any business getting involved in an asset should look at the lifecycle of a bubble and decide when to get in or get out.

All bubbles throughout history have burst at some point without fail. I believe the PL (especially after the new deal announcement) is somewhere between 'Greed' and 'New Paradigm' on the chart below.

Unless of course this bubble is 'different this time' (New Paradigm). Unlike the south-sea, tulip, dotcom, housing (still going on), stock market, Gold, railway bubbles etc....etc...

  9. Who was the guy to the left of Sherwood?

    Tom Fox.

(unless this is a joke question and it's gone over my head)

I think he meant his other left.

    ... Not a clue.

iIwas thinking possible new guy (potential Director of Football??) had a look at what the chap at Watford looked like and it's deffo not Luke Dowling

I was wondering who he was as well :D

Could it be the Riley chap?

  10. Where has this quality punditry come from Shearer?

I don't think he is usually too bad when watching a game live. When he is on MOTD though he just talks nonsense, presumably because he hasnt watched more than a few minutes highlights.

  11. I really hope your right.

    I'm not so sure

Gabby max 3 goals a season

    Weimann max 6 goals

Benteke - on recent form 7 goals

    Midfield 5 goals between them

    Defence- 2

We're going down, if we do stay up. I will be amazed.

Lol where do you get them figures?

Just my prediction based on the talent I think we have.

I wouldn't disagree with those predictions if Lambert was still here, but we managed 39 last year and we haven't lost any influential players but added to the squad. So we are more than capable with the right direction of scoring more than 23 goals in a season.
