  1. I think they had to save face in January by not selling a player (they maybe couldn't / didn't want to replace) to a relegation rival. Now the player has handed in a 2nd transfer request with all the summer transfer window in front of them, and considering we're no longer rivals, I imagine PL would get him - assuming no takeover is imminent.

Lambert could probably now offer more than the £1M allowance that was reportedly provided in Jan which may help!

  2. Another question is ' are Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner capable of identifying and appointing a manager who can do any better than Lambert under the existing financial constraints'.

    I doubt it.

  3. In these times of ITK drought Mendi's b*ll*cks would make a welcome decision point. Where are you Mendi?

He's no longer a member of this forum.

I heard he's been silenced by the club. He knew too much.

He's locked in a basement somewhere with HairyHands and Dale Stephens.

  4. I just had a heart-warming text from my friend in the media, who said "don't get too down about the news right now, you'll be smiling come July"

So, after my negative comment this morn', I am now lifted again.

  5. I don't think we will figure who is buying us by trying to decode what Paul Lambert is saying. Our only hope is thetrees.

Can you imagine the players trying to decode what he's on about? No wonder they look all over the shop!

    I was thinking exactly this.

You'd expect successful leaders to be articulate and energetic. Hopefully he's just camera shy bless him.

  6. PL was trying to answer how he could find the right players if Randy wasn't willing to release funds.

He didn't even need to mention in his answer anything to do with a takeover not being imminent, which to me suggests he was trying to cover up a slip.

  7. Worst case scenario; Lerner refuses to provide PL with funds in hope that someone will buy the club and invest themselves, which doesn't happen and we start next season with the same squad.

  8. I am going to throw this out there as I have no idea if true so will be just as interested to find out.

Got told the deal is already done and has been virtually in the bag since Xmas. He said it will be announced first week in June.

He also said Albrighton to Leicester as they will match his Villa wages. So will Everton but he wants regular footy. The proof is in the pudding as they say.

Obvious who he reckons he is mates with!!

The Albrighton to Leicester thing is being reported in the Mirror.

Can't remember seeing it anywhere other than here?

Staying put: Lambert is likely to remain at Villa Park

Aston Villa are expected to confirm on Monday that boss Paul Lambert is staying despite Randy Lerner putting the club up for sale.

Lambert and Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner flew to USA last week for talks with the club’s US owner. The trio spent Thursday and Friday in New York discussing Villa’s short-term plans while the club is on the market.

With no firm buyer lined up, Lambert wants guarantees for spending this summer after a second successive relegation battle.

The Scot returned to the UK over the weekend and is now expected to remain in charge after the productive talks with Lerner.

The American had initially planned to veto any new contracts or major transfers before offloading the club sparking fears Lambert may quit.

But Villa have now tabled new offers to out of contract players like Gary Gardner, who is set to sign a one-year extension. The club are also trying to get Marc Albrighton to stay but the winger is wanted by Leicester.

  10. Lambert wants a new backroom staff and plans for next seasons. But on Monday or Tuesday you will hear few things.

    Hi Mendi

Speaking of backroom staff can you tell us what happened with Culverhouse and Karsa?

The LMA are involved and both are on gardening leave.

    What did they do though?
