  1. Was really excited by his performance against Chicago Fire, thought he looked outstanding there. Looked up for it and sharp, played some great passes, think it helps that he seems to have someone on the same wavelength as him in El Ahmadi.

  2. I see him having the potential to be a match winner and possibly captain one day. He does seem to possess the desire to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and the confidence to try things. He's very raw at the moment, he reminds me of how Gerrard was when he first broke in to the Liverpool team.

  3. Martin O' Neil used to buy people and if he didn't like them anymore or they didn't play well, instead of selling them on, he'd just leave them out to pasture until there contracts ran out.

Or if another club happened to want them, he'd sell them before he had a replcement, possibly because he may have never thought about replacing this player he'd just left to rot.

Aston Villa is a business to Randy Lerner, and this is not good business practice. When Lerner challenged O' Neil on this, they had a bust up and O' Neil left.

I think Randy Lerner is just looking for an employee in the manager role who will move people who are not working out on whilst simultanously replacing them with better quality. Not build up a collection of players where only one is ever used causing the wage bill to mount up. In Paul Lambert, Randy Lerner seems to have found an employee with this quality.

  4. I wonder if we could do a swap, Cresswell for Warnock? Probably not :( Don't think Warnock would go for it with the likely wage cut. Which is the shame because I think he'd do well at that level and they'd be happy to have him.

I suppose the age swap might be an issue for Ipswich.

  5. I thought going to the U.S.A. was a great idea, three good performances, three good wins, the humidity, the fitness and physicality of the opposition, the buzz, the meeting of a different culture and the excitement and willingess of our hosts.

Yes, it removed us physically from any transfers but a lot of the business communications can be done by e-mail, telephone etc and now Lambert will return to deal with anything he has to.

I'm sure there were representatives (Faulkner for the most part except the Portland game) that were available to meet and greet anyone. Lambert only has to let people know what he wants.

Going to The States was a huge success, in my opinion.

  6. I think with Lamberts' reputation as someone who likes to mix things up tactically he will like to have different strike options.

So he has a Poacher in Bent

    A Scrapper in Weimann

    A Speedy striker in Agbonlahor

    and

an useful supporting striker in Delefouneso.

So there is a space open for a strong target man that, regardless of ability, Heskey and Carew have left. Agbonlahor is strong to be fair, but the strength aspect of his game has been developed as a defence against the batterings he takes and is not part of his natural game.

A squad with five strikers competing for a place in the starting line-up would be fair. Especially with each offering different qualities.
