    They have higher revenues :bang:

I don't get what people are not getting. Tesco can build more supermarkets than Spar, the USA can build more aircraft carriers than Tanzania. Yes, it's obviously better to be richer!

I never said they didn’t.  Its rigged towards the big boys.  Never mind being billions in debt, as long as their revenue is bigger, we’ll use that to keep the lower teams in their place, even though they are debt free and have owners who want to spend.

It's not nonsense though. Newcastle have spent 400m after a few years of spending nothing, some hyper inflated sponsorship deals, and CL qualification.

They have hit an artificial limit that is FFP as a result, but it's way less than the likes of spurs, chelsea, and United have spent recently. United amd Chelsea are perfect examples of having been able to spend way more than anyone else in the league for years,  but having spent that money terribly.  Give it a year or two and they're back to spunking money up the wall again.

The fact they're now constrained by FFP isn't a sign that FFP works. It may stop endless spending, but it still massively favours the teams that regularly qualify for the champions league.

Edit, : He is right about the real issue being state owned clubs though, which means FFP has to hang around in some guise.

Edit 2: and for Villa, the fact we're supposedly at the limit, despite having spent relatively little from a net perspective, shows we're fighting against the tide. We've recruited exceptionally well, maybe got a little lucky,  but overall we're hamstrung more than any of the clubs around us at the moment. Qualifying for the CL, and this Adidas deal, may well help us get closer to a level playing field.

💯 That guy is talking bollox.  He’s taking in a short time frame.  Doesn’t mention Arsenal/Man utd/Chelsea spending hundreds of millIons over past 2-3years and have hit their limits.  We spend 10 times less and hit our limit.

Duran is a kid who hasn't even been in the country a year yet. He's trying to adapt and improve in the toughest league in the world. He'll need time do develop and he'll get that. I'm hopeful he'll be a much better player at the start of next season after he's had 18 months here and a pre season (he was injured at start of this season and missed that).

I agree to an extent but you don’t need to develop to press defenders. A fit worst striker in the world could manage that

Yes it's idiotic. They're trying to get promotion and are owned by wealthy investment group that owns 49ers in NFL. They're not going to derail promotion chances by selling key players. Honestly do people do any research before making up transfer rumours?

Though i was googling and apparently he has a 20m buy out clause

It was just taken from here which is about the most recent I could find. I'm sure relegation has likely affected Leeds/Leicester, but I suppose my point is we shouldn't be remotely close to these. Everton is even worse given their struggled and being the defacto number 2 club in their smaller city.

As to your wider point, I agree that it feels a bit too soon to judge. I guess we'll see when the 23/24 accounts are out and see how they compare to 22/23.

Given our current campaign and were we are in the table, there wont be any of those close to us regarding revenue.  Also I would take everton figs with pinch of salt

It's been postponed on the chance of CL next season and the lost revenue of reduced seating as I understood.

💯 we need to stop letting our hearts rule our head here.  Get established in top 6/4, for a couple of years then visit the building of the new stand.  To become established we need revenue and atmosphere.  Something that would be totally hampered if we start replacing now.

This is useful thread on FFP. Suggests we actually have a fair bit of headroom to buy a decent player, above £30m if pushed. It also suggests this is predicated on finishing 7th so if we finish in CL positions, it is greatly improved.

The way i read it, if we spend 30m on a player in the next 18months then we will be very tight to ffp without going over.  Thats not taking into consideration CL money if we qualify, which then would change for the better

  9. With regards the the likes of Dendonker and Chambers, there isn’t really many clubs out there who could buy them with regards FFP.  Talk now Forrest could be in trouble with it.

What team would want them and also could afford them?

The top sides do that by keeping the width and quick switches of play to generate favourable one on ones. We only have Bailey as a winger in the squad. If we had a right footed Bailey and a Right footed Moreno we'd be set attack wise once Buendia is back fit.

They do but look at City.  They have those players but have still struggled without debryun to do this

  11. I still think we need to bring in someone who can break down teams who put 11 players behind the ball.  Its where we have struggled this season.  A tough nut to crack being able to do that.  Plus this type of player costs a fortune.

Maybe an older player on loan near the end of his career who we could bring on in these games?  Ever Banega type, but he’s earning the oil money these days

I do feel we are short in the right footed RM/RB. Some pace and able to do on the right what Moreno does on left.

Philogene was right footed winger who showed a lot defensively in the pre season games.

I think we want a Pau, Mings/Carlos, Konsa functional back three in possession in certain games and to do that we want the two wingers being Moreno in LM and a new upgrade on Cash in RB or vice versa.

Our attempts to sign Acuna to replace Digne shows to me Emery wants that versatile fullback who is strong attacking and can play LB/LM and on the right we have Cash and a new signing for the same RB/RM.

What about a goalkeeper?  Its only position you haven’t mentioned we need someone 😀
