Considering an average modern full back in Wan Bissaka cost 50 million I be curious who you think we could get

As example, frimpong has a 34m release clause.  Not saying he’d come but those players for that money are out there

Like Cash saved us a couple times last night. But on the ball lacks a bit of extra quality.

He gave ball away for corner that caused

goal and then gave away again for 3rd goal.  The amount of times he jogged back after loosing it pissed me off far more than his performance

  3. Ramsey might see it hasn’t worked out 💯 yet for his brother and could be reluctant to move.  Grass isn’t all greener at that young age in your development

  4. Did nobody learn anything from Grealish.  If right offer comes in Ramsey is off.  Way you build a stronger team in long run unfortunately.  Credit to Purslow, he saw this way before other teams like Newcastle and we were getting best youth from all over UK.

Its way FFp is, we have to live with it to such a time we have a strong enough squad we don’t have to sell.  We aren’t there yet.

He won’t have much to be fair. Milan will negotiate with Barcelona and Lenglet’s management team. If all parties want the deal to happen, Barcelona will recall him and then loan him/sell him to Milan. The only involvement Monchi will have is to try and convince Lenglet to stay.

Not true, villa loaned him for the season.  Barcelona probably don’t have a call back clause as its a big fee so Milan would have to give Villa money to get him out of contract

Perhaps, but we are always a couple of injuries, suspensions and fixtures away from " 5th choice " becoming second or third choice.

Would you rather Dendonker or Gallagher coming on? Gallagher starting in the Conference, Cup, or Dendonker etc?

( I don't actually dislike Dendonker either, just as example ).

From the players perspective, it probably wouldn't make much sense though

Its not a correct comparison though.  Gallagher be about 60m compared to 10m

Speaking of Chelsea it’s mad to think they are willing to let Gallagher go. I don’t think we could afford him but what an option he would be in midfield alongside Doug and Kamara.

Stay clear of supposedly top English midfielders.  They are double the price they should be based on their ability.  For every Bellingham, they are 6 Philips.

No the wage bill of Man United (who are top) is lower than the income of the bottom club. Hence the salary cap only caps future wage growth and doesn't force teams to cut their wage bill. UEFA rules will kinda do that itself with squad cost rule

That doesn’t really make sense though.  What happens when a team such as luton finishes bottom?  Their income would be a pittance and the amount could change drastically from year to the next, making it impossible to plan for.  (Ive probably misunderstood so ignore me if i have 😃

    Spurs play really good football.

I've not seen us play like that since the City game.

Right now Spurs would be my favorite for the 4th spot. We need to play a lot better to make it.

We all assuming Arsenal are 3rd then?  Id go out on a limb and say villa and spurs both have a better chance finishing top 4 at minute

It isn't. We were able to simply reject outright an Arsenal offer for Luiz last summer.

Arsenal have a lack of a goalscorer. They have identified Ivan Toney as the guy they want to fill that hole. That's not being incompetent; he's a really good player and that's a transfer with a high chance of success. But the combination of the TV deal meaning Brentford don't need to sell him cheap, and FFP meaning Arsenal can't spend another near-£100m, is going to keep Toney at Brentford for a while longer.

What's better for equal sporting competition in England, Toney being at Brentford or at Arsenal? And 'incompetence' is nowhere to be seen in that scenario.

EDIT: And who's the guy who Arsenal were rumoured to want before Toney? And where does he play today (hint - it's not Arsenal)?

We were able to reject Arsenal because they offered peanuts.  We wouldn’t have been able to do it if they offered 30+

There are 20 teams in the league. We can't all finish in the top 4. If you let everyone spend whatever they want in the hope that they, specifically, make it to become a regular in the Champions League, the vast majority of clubs will fail, and then some of them will go out of business. People don't like this either, because we think of our clubs as 'treasured community assets' and then when they get into trouble chasing pipe dreams we demand that the government and the league do something about it. The 'something' we have now is FFP/PSR.

Well thats what ffp was brought in for, to stop clubs doing a leeds.  It’s also made the league anti competitive as the clubs who have made hay when the sun shone now won’t be moved.  Yeah we might finish in top 4, for a year or two but we still won’t be near the top 6.

I'm honestly struggling to follow at this point whether you want *more* rules to prevent City, Chelsea and Newcastle spending as much as they could or *fewer* rules to allow us to spend more, but my suspicion is you basically think both of these things. Unfortunately 'make the rules whatever is most convenient for Aston Villa specifically' is not really an option.

My point is that it protects the established big 6.  Its not a level playing field, how can you increase revenue and become one of them if u cant spend initially?  It’s nearly impossible.  No one wants runaway teams, but thats what we have had with city for past 10 years. Same with utd 20 years before and pool 20 before that

It's good. Otherwise Newcastle and City would dominate the league. Football was childish for too long not having any kind of salary cap

City have dominated the league for last 10 years, same as utd for 20 years before that and Liverpool the 20 before that.  They all spent the most money in them years.  Nothing had changed with introductions of ffp

If that's the issue people have, they don't need the FFP thread, they need to be starting a 'was it a mistake to allow football to professionalise in 1885' thread.

Apart from N American sports, and maybe some of the cricket leagues (not sure), all professional sport is run on these lines. We live in a capitalist society, so unless you specifically create 'millionaire's socialism' then access to capital will be a big part of determining success. FFP is having the effect of partially *reducing* these disparities in English football, it's not the cause of them.

So you don’t think the likes of Tesla dont make loses initially to get market share?  Most companies have to spend in first few years to exceed.  That’s capitalism.  Not telling companies they can’t spend to get to where they want to be competing with the likes of Mercedes.
