    Ah, the more you know!

Tbh I'd have had most American outlets as obscure also, I more meant because pressure from the press can push a club to react but it's easier to ignore from non-mainstream British Press.

A good article though, and props to them for investing in genuine opinion, would be easier to just pay a fee to a 'name' for an uneducated opinion

Definitely agree it's a well written article though.

Particularly enjoyed this bit describing the current malaise:

    Quote

"Watching Villa this season is football as conceptual art; a hypnotic study of football without football, stripped of its essential core. The ball is carried into the penalty box but the audience has no memory of how it got there. They move with an uncanny resemblance of a football team on the attack yet there’s an eerie sense no highlight, no action, could ever be created. In this piece, the viewer is invited to ponder the illusory construct of reality and the mass hallucination of sport as existential relief.

It is difficult to discuss Villa’s aimlessness under Gerrard without resorting to sarcasm because it can be hard to pin down, with data or tactical analysis, exactly what is wrong with something that turns to dust on contact. But pause any footage of a Villa game this season and witness a team shape of maddening proportions, a cross or a star as likely as a triangle or square."

The article is more interesting than our football!

Just spotted this article on twitter, it puts into words almost exactly how I feel watching us play. It's a shame it's on an obscure site rather than a mainstream one.

Optus Sport is the main broadcaster of the Premier League here in Australia, so it's not exactly obscure 🙂
But I can understand its not a major British or American outlet.

  3. This might've been spoken about earlier, but I think Gerard's comments after West Ham were telling.

He spoke about "not having imagination or creative spark" to unpick West Ham in the final third. Surely it's on him and his team to come up with an avenue to open up West Ham. It shouldn't be down to the "imagination" of the players to figure it out.

It also doesn't help to complain about not having a "creative spark" when you've got Buendia and Bailey sitting on the bench.

The man isn't a coach or a tactician.

  4. Whoever the new manager is (hopefully sooner rather than later), they need backing to bring in their trusted coaching team.

I'm not sure who Poch had with him at Spurs and PSG,  but it's imperative they're brought in as well to give the manager the best chance of succeeding.

  5. My gaming time has severely reduced over the past 6 months with work picking up. However, I did platinum Ghost of Tsushima and can agree that it's a brilliant game. Loved it!

Rather than picking up anything right now, I'm thinking of just waiting for God Of War Ragnarok.

I've had my eye on Horizon for awhile, but haven't played the first one, and from what I've read, you need to play the first to understand the story of the second?

Particularly with Carney and Luiz's contact situations, he's not bad enough to toss aside and we may want the body Inthe squad anyway if we decided to sell one of those two or Nakamba or decided to loan out Iroegbunam

Agree with this. With the substitute situation increasing to 5 this coming season, Sanson could become an important player.
